Warning against Going to Egypt

And all the captains of the forces, and Johanan the son of Kareah, and Jezaniah the son of Hoshaiah, and all the people from the least even to the greatest,

Слово, що було до Єремії від Господа в дні Йоакима, царя Юди, кажучи:

came near and said unto Jeremiah the prophet, Let, we beseech thee, our supplication come before thee, and pray for us unto Jehovah thy God, for all this remnant (for we are left a few of many, as thine eyes do behold us);

Іди до дому Архавіна і приведеш їх до Господнього дому, до одного з дворів, і напоїш їх вином.

that Jehovah thy God may shew us the way wherein we should walk, and the thing that we should do.

І вивели Єзонію, сина Єреміна, сина Харасіна і його братів, і його синів, і весь дім Архавіна,

4

And Jeremiah the prophet said unto them, I have heard; behold, I will pray unto Jehovah your God according to your words; and it shall come to pass [that] whatsoever thing Jehovah shall answer you, I will declare it unto you: I will keep nothing back from you.

і ввели їх до Господнього дому, до кімнат синів Ананії, сина Ґодолія, мужа Божого, що є близько дому володарів, що над домом Маасія, сина Селома, який стереже двір,

And they said to Jeremiah, Jehovah be a true and faithful witness amongst us, if we do not even according to all the word for which Jehovah thy God shall send thee to us.

і я дав перед їхнє обличчя посудину вина і чаші, і я сказав: Пийте вино!

6

Whether it be good or whether it be evil, we will hearken unto the voice of Jehovah our God, to whom we send thee; that it may be well with us when we hearken unto the voice of Jehovah our God.

А вони сказали: Не питимемо вина, тому що Йонадав, син Рихава, наш батько, заповів нам, кажучи: Не пийте вина, ви і ваші сини, навіки!

And it came to pass at the end of ten days, that the word of Jehovah came unto Jeremiah.

І не збудуєте дому, і не посієте насіння, і у вас не буде виноградника, бо житимете в шатрах усі ваші дні, щоб ви жили багато днів на землі, на якій ви по ній ходите.

8

And he called Johanan the son of Kareah, and all the captains of the forces that were with him, and all the people from the least even unto the greatest,

І послухали ми голосу нашого батька Йонадава, щоб не пити вина всі наші дні, ми і наші жінки, і наші сини, і наші дочки,

9

and said unto them, Thus saith Jehovah the God of Israel, to whom ye sent me to present your supplication before him:

9

і щоб не будувати домів, щоб там мешкати, і щоб виноградника, поля та насіння не було в нас,

10

If ye will still abide in this land, then will I build you, and not overthrow [you], and I will plant you, and not pluck [you] up; for I repent me of the evil that I have done unto you.

10

і щоб ми жили в шатрах. І ми послухалися, і ми зробили згідно з усім, що нам заповів наш батько Йонадав.

11

Be not afraid of the king of Babylon, of whom ye are afraid: be not afraid of him, saith Jehovah; for I will be with you to save you, and to deliver you from his hand.

І сталося, коли на землю прийшов Навуходоносор, то ми сказали: Увійдіть! І ми ввійшли до Єрусалима від лиця сили халдеїв і від лиця сили ассирійців, і оселилися там.

12

And I will grant mercies to you, that he may have mercy upon you, and cause you to return to your own land.

І до мене було Господнє слово, кажучи:

But if ye say, We will not dwell in this land; so as not to hearken unto the voice of Jehovah your God,

13

Так говорить Господь: Іди і скажи чоловікові Юди й тим, що живуть у Єрусалимі: Чи не приймете напоумлення, щоб послухати Мої слова?

14

saying, No; but we will go into the land of Egypt, where we shall see no war, nor hear the sound of the trumpet, nor have hunger for bread; and there will we dwell;

Сини Йонадава, сина Рихава, поставили слово, яке він заповів його синам, щоб не пити вино, і вони не пили. А Я говорив до вас вдосвіта і говорив, та ви не слухалися.

15

-- and now, therefore, hear the word of Jehovah, ye remnant of Judah: thus saith Jehovah of hosts, the God of Israel: If ye really set your faces to enter into Egypt, and go to sojourn there,

І Я послав до вас Моїх рабів-пророків, кажучи: Зверніть кожний зі своєї поганої дороги і кращими зробіть ваші задуми, і не йдіть за чужими богами, щоб їм служити, і мешкатимете на землі, яку Я дав вам і вашим батькам! Та ви не прихилили ваших вух, і ви не послухалися.

16

then it shall come to pass, that the sword which ye fear shall overtake you there in the land of Egypt, and the famine, whereof ye are afraid, shall follow hard after you there in Egypt; and there ye shall die.

Тож сини Йонадава, сина Рихава, поставили заповідь їхнього батька, а цей народ Мене не послухався.

17

And it shall be that all the men that have set their faces to go into Egypt to sojourn there shall die by the sword, by the famine, and by the pestilence; and none of them shall remain or escape from the evil that I will bring upon them.

Через це так сказав Господь: Ось Я наводжу на Юду і на тих, що живуть в Єрусалимі все зло, яке Я сказав проти них.

18

For thus saith Jehovah of hosts, the God of Israel: As mine anger and my fury have been poured forth upon the inhabitants of Jerusalem, so shall my fury be poured forth upon you, when ye shall enter into Egypt; and ye shall be an execration, and an astonishment, and a curse, and a reproach, and ye shall see this place no more.

Через це так сказав Господь: Оскільки сини Йонадава, сина Рихава, послухали заповідь їхнього батька, щоб робити так, як заповів їм їхній батько,

19

Jehovah hath said concerning you, the remnant of Judah, Go ye not into Egypt. Know certainly that I have admonished you this day.

19

то всі дні землі не переведеться чоловік в синів Йонадава, сина Рихава, який стоїть перед Моїм обличчям.
