Run ye to and fro through the streets of Jerusalem, and see now, and know, and seek in the broadways thereof, if ye can find a man, if there be [any] that doeth justice, that seeketh fidelity; and I will pardon it.

Пробіжіться дорогами Єрусалима і роздивіться, і розізнайте, і пошукайте на його площах, чи знайдете того, хто чинить суд і шукає віру? І Я буду милосердний до них, — говорить Господь.
And if they say, [As] Jehovah liveth! surely they swear falsely.
Вони говорять: Нехай живе Господь! Та хіба через це не клянуться неправдою?
Jehovah, are not thine eyes upon fidelity? Thou hast smitten them, but they are not sore; thou hast consumed them, they have refused to receive correction: they have made their faces harder than a rock; they have refused to return.
Господи, чи Твої очі — не на вірність? Ти їх карав, а вони не відчували болю! Ти їх знищував, а вони і тоді не забажали прийняти напоумлення! Вони зробили свої обличчя твердішими за камінь і не виявили бажання повернутися.
And I said, Surely these are the wretched ones, they are foolish; for they know not the way of Jehovah, the judgment of their God.
І Я сказав: Вони, напевно, бідні; вони тому безсилі, що не пізнали Господньої дороги і Божого суду.
I will go unto the great men, and will speak unto them; for they know the way of Jehovah, the judgment of their God; but these have altogether broken the yoke, have burst the bonds.
Піду до чоловіків і скажу їм, бо ці пізнали Господню дорогу і Божий суд. Дивлюсь, а вони одностайно розбили ярмо, розтрощили кайдани.
Therefore a lion out of the forest shall slay them, a wolf of the evenings shall waste them; the leopard lurketh against their cities, every one that goeth out thence is torn in pieces: for their transgressions are multiplied, their backslidings are increased.
Через це на них напав лев із лісу, і вовк губив їх аж до домів, і леопард чатував над їхніми містами. Усі, які виходять з них, будуть впольовані, бо помножили свої беззаконня, зміцніли у своєму відпадінні.
Wherefore should I pardon thee? Thy children have forsaken me, and swear by them that are not God. I have satiated them, and they have committed adultery, and they troop to the harlots' house.
За які із цих вчинків буду милосердний з тобою? Твої сини Мене покинули і клялися тими, які не є богами! Я їх нагодував, а вони чинили перелюб і ночували в домах розпусти.
[As] well fed horses, they roam about, every one neigheth after his neighbour's wife.
Стали жеребцями, які пожадають жінок, кожний іржав до жінки свого ближнього.
Shall I not visit for these things? saith Jehovah, and shall not my soul be avenged on such a nation as this?
Хіба за це Я не навідаюся? — говорить Господь, — чи на такому народі не помститься Моя душа?
Go up upon her walls, and destroy; but make not a full end; take away her battlements, for they are not Jehovah's.
Підніміться на його захисні мури і нищіть, але остаточно не знищуйте! Залиште його підкріплення, бо вони Господні.
For the house of Israel and the house of Judah have dealt very treacherously against me, saith Jehovah.
Адже зовсім знехтував [1] Мною дім Ізраїля і дім Юди!
They have denied Jehovah, and say, He is not; and evil shall not come upon us, nor shall we see sword nor famine;
Вони сказали неправду своєму Господу і заявили: Це не так! На нас зло не прийде, і ми не побачимо меча та голоду!
and the prophets shall become wind, and the word is not in them: thus shall it be done unto them.
Наші пророки були на вітер, і в них не було Господнього слова. Так з ними і станеться!
Judgment Proclaimed
Therefore thus saith Jehovah, the God of hosts: Because ye speak this word, behold, I will make my words in thy mouth fire, and this people wood, and it shall devour them.

Через це так говорить Господь Вседержитель: Оскільки ви сказали це слово, то ось Я вклав Мої слова у твої уста як вогонь, а цей народ — дрова, і він їх пожере!
Behold, I bring a nation upon you from afar, house of Israel, saith Jehovah: it is a mighty nation, it is an ancient nation, a nation whose language thou knowest not, neither understandest thou what they say.
Ось Я наводжу на вас, доме Ізраїля, народ здалека, — говорить Господь, — народ, голос чийого язика не було чути.
And they shall eat up thy harvest and thy bread, they shall eat up thy sons and thy daughters, they shall eat up thy flocks and thy herds, they shall eat up thy vines and thy fig-trees; they shall destroy with the sword thy strong cities, wherein thou trustedst.
й вони з’їдять ваші жнива та ваш хліб, і вони поглинуть ваших синів і ваших дочок, і пожеруть ваших овець і ваших телят, і пожеруть ваші виноградники, ваші фігові сади та ваші оливкові дерева. І змолотять мечем ваші сильні міста, на які ви покладали надію.
Nevertheless in those days, saith Jehovah, I will not make a full end with you.
І буде в ті дні, — говорить Господь, Бог твій, — не дам вас на остаточне знищення!
And it shall come to pass, when ye shall say, Wherefore hath Jehovah our God done all these things unto us? then shalt thou say to them, As ye have forsaken me, and served strange gods in your land, so shall ye serve strangers in a land that is not yours.
І буде, коли питатимуть: Через що зробив нам Господь, Бог наш, це все? — то скажеш їм: Оскільки ви служили чужим богам у вашій землі, саме тому будете служити чужим не у вашій землі!
Declare this in the house of Jacob, and publish it in Judah, saying,
Сповістіть це в домі Якова, і нехай почується в Юди!
Hear now this, O foolish and heartless people, who have eyes and see not; who have ears, and hear not.
Послухай же це, народе нерозумний і безсердечний! У них — очі, та не бачать, у них — вуха, та не чують.
Will ye not fear me? saith Jehovah. Will ye not tremble at my presence, who have set the sand a bound for the sea by a perpetual decree, and it shall not pass it? and its waves toss themselves, but they do not prevail; and they roar, yet can they not pass over it?
Хіба Мене не боятиметеся? — говорить Господь, — чи не поважатимете Моєї присутності? Того, Хто визначив пісок за границю морю — вічний наказ, — і воно його не перейде, і забушує, та не зможе, і заревуть його хвилі, та не вийде за його границі!
But this people hath a stubborn and a rebellious heart; they have turned aside and are gone.
А в цього народу є неслухняне та непокірне серце, і вони відхилилися, і відійшли.
And they say not in their heart, Let us now fear Jehovah our God, that giveth rain, both the early and the latter, in its season; who preserveth unto us the appointed weeks of harvest.
І не сказали у своєму серці: Маймо ж страх до нашого Господа Бога, Який дає нам ранній і пізній дощ за часом повноти припису жнив, і Який зберіг нас.
Your iniquities have turned away these things, and your sins have withholden from you what is good.
Ваші беззаконня відвернули це, і ваші гріхи віддалили добро від вас!
For among my people are found wicked [men]: they lay wait, as fowlers stoop down; they set a trap, they catch men.
Адже в Моєму народі знайшлися безбожні й поставили пастку, щоби знищити людей, і схопили їх.
As a cage full of birds, so are their houses full of deceit: therefore they are become great, and have enriched themselves.
Як наставлена сітка повна пташок, так і їхні доми повні обману. Через це вони звеличилися і збагатилися.
They are become fat, they shine, yea, they surpass in deeds of wickedness; they judge not the cause, the cause of the fatherless, and they prosper; and the right of the needy do they not adjudge.
І порушували правосуддя, не судили суд сироти і не судили суд вдови.
Shall I not visit for these things? saith Jehovah; shall not my soul be avenged on such a nation as this?
Хіба за це не відвідаю, — говорить Господь, — чи не помститься Моя душа на цьому народі?
An appalling and horrible thing is committed in the land:
Жах і жахливі діла сталися на землі.
