The Judgment on Babylon

The word that Jehovah spoke concerning Babylon, concerning the land of the Chaldeans, through Jeremiah the prophet.

1

І сталося, коли Єремія перестав говорити до народу всі Господні слова, які йому Господь послав до них, усі ці слова,

Declare ye among the nations, and publish, and lift up a banner; publish, conceal not! Say, Babylon is taken, Bel is put to shame, Merodach is dismayed: her images are put to shame, her idols are dismayed.

то сказав Азарія, син Маасея, і Йоанан, син Кария, і всі мужі, що промовили до Єремії, кажучи: Брехня, тебе не послав Господь говорити до нас: Не ввійдете в Єгипет, щоб там жити,

For out of the north there cometh up a nation against her, which shall make her land desolate, and none shall dwell therein: both man and beast are fled; they are gone.

але лиш Варух, син Нирія, підштовхує тебе проти нас, щоб ти видав нас у руки халдеїв, щоб нас убити і відселити нас до Вавилону.

Hope for Israel and Judah

In those days, and at that time, saith Jehovah, the children of Israel shall come, they and the children of Judah together, going and weeping as they go, and shall seek Jehovah their God.

І не послухався Йоанан і всі володарі сили, і весь народ голосу Господа, щоб жити в землі Юди.

5

They shall inquire concerning Zion, with their faces thitherward, [saying,] Come, and let us join ourselves to Jehovah, in an everlasting covenant that shall not be forgotten.

І взяв Йоанан і всі володарі сили всю решту Юди, тих, що повернулися, щоб жити в землі,

My people are lost sheep; their shepherds have caused them to go astray, they turned them away on the mountains: they went from mountain to hill, they forgot their resting-place.

сильних мужів і жінок, і решти, і дочок царя, і душі, які залишив Навузардан з Ґодолієм, сином Ахікама, і пророка Єремію та Варуха, сина Нирія,

All that found them devoured them, and their adversaries said, We are not guilty, because they have sinned against Jehovah, the habitation of righteousness, even Jehovah, the hope of their fathers.

і пішли до Єгипту, бо не послухалися Господнього голосу. І вони прийшли до Тафни.

8

Flee out of the midst of Babylon, and go forth out of the land of the Chaldeans, and be as the he-goats before the flock.

І було Господнє слово до Єремії в Тафні, кажучи:

For behold, I will raise and cause to come up against Babylon, an assemblage of great nations from the north country; and they shall set themselves in array against her: from thence shall she be taken. Their arrows shall be as those of a mighty expert man: none shall return empty.

Візьми собі великі камені та сховай їх при вході в дім фараона в Тафні перед очима мужів Юди,

And Chaldea shall be a spoil: all the spoilers thereof shall be satiated, saith Jehovah.

і скажеш: Так сказав Господь: Ось Я посилаю і приведу Навуходоносора, царя Вавилону, і він поставить свій престол на цьому камінні, яке ти сховав, і підніме на них свою зброю,

Babylon's Fall is Certain

For ye rejoiced, for ye triumphed, ye plunderers of my heritage; for ye have been wanton as the heifer at grass, and neighed as steeds.

і ввійде, і поб’є єгипетську землю, яких на смерть, на смерть, а яких на відселення, — на відселення, а яких під меч, — під меч.

12

Your mother hath been sorely put to shame; she that bore you hath been covered with reproach: behold, [she is become] hindmost of the nations, a wilderness, a dry land, and a desert.

І він запалить вогонь у домах їхніх богів, і спалить їх, і відселить їх, і знищить єгипетську землю, — так, як пастух нищить свій плащ, — і вийде в мирі.

13

Because of the wrath of Jehovah, it shall not be inhabited, but it shall be wholly desolate; every one that goeth by Babylon shall be astonished, and shall hiss, because of all her plagues.

І розіб’є стовпи Еліополя, що в Оні, і вогнем спалить їхні доми.
