Jeremiah's Message at the Temple Gate
The word that came to Jeremiah from Jehovah, saying,
The word that came to Jeremiah from Jehovah, saying,
Stand in the gate of Jehovah's house, and proclaim there this word, and say, Hear ye the word of Jehovah, all Judah, that enter in at these gates to worship Jehovah.
Послухайте Господнє слово, уся Юдеє!
Thus saith Jehovah of hosts, the God of Israel: Amend your ways and your doings, and I will cause you to dwell in this place.
Так говорить Господь, Бог Ізраїля: Зробіть прямими ваші дороги і ваші задуми, і поселю вас на цьому місці!
Confide ye not in words of falsehood, saying, Jehovah's temple, Jehovah's temple, Jehovah's temple is this.
Не надійтеся на самих себе, на оманливі слова, бо зовсім не принесуть вам користі ті, хто каже: Храм Господній, храм Господній є тут!
But if ye thoroughly amend your ways and your doings, if ye really do justice between a man and his neighbour,
Бо якщо ви справді випрямите [1] ваші дороги та ваші задуми і дійсно чинитимете [2] суд між чоловіком і між його ближнім,
[if] ye oppress not the stranger, the fatherless, and the widow, and shed no innocent blood in this place, neither walk after other gods to your hurt;
і не пригноблюватимете чужинця, сироту і вдову, і не проливатимете невинної крові на цьому місці, і не підете за чужими богами — собі ж на лихо,
then will I cause you to dwell in this place, in the land that I gave to your fathers from of old even for ever.
то поселю вас на цьому місці, у землі, яку Я дав вашим батькам від віку і аж до віку!
Behold, ye confide in words of falsehood that cannot profit.
Якщо ж ви поклали надію на оманливі слова (що не принесе жодної користі),
What? steal, murder, and commit adultery, and swear falsely, and burn incense unto Baal, and walk after other gods whom ye know not ...
крадете, убиваєте, чините перелюб, клянетеся в неправедному, приносите ладан Ваалові та йдете за чужими богами, яких ви не знаєте, щоб зле вам було,
then ye come and stand before me, in this house which is called by my name, and say, We are delivered, -- in order to do all these abominations!
а тоді приходите, стаєте переді Мною в домі, в якому закликається Моє Ім’я, і говорите: Ми стрималися, щоб не робити ці всі гидоти.
Is this house, which is called by my name, a den of robbers in your eyes? Even I, behold, I have seen it, saith Jehovah.
Хіба Мій дім, тут де закликається Моє Ім’я, у ваших очах — печера розбійників? І ось Я побачив, — говорить Господь.
For go now unto my place which was in Shiloh, where I caused my name to dwell at the first, and see what I did to it, for the wickedness of my people Israel.
Бо підете до Мого місця, що в Силомі, туди, де Я раніше поселив Моє Ім’я, і побачите, що Я зробив йому через присутність зла Мого народу Ізраїля.
And now, because ye have done all these works, saith Jehovah, and I spoke unto you, rising up early and speaking, and ye heard not, and I called you, and ye answered not;
І тепер, оскільки ви вчинили всі ці діла, Я заговорив до вас, та ви Мене не послухали, і Я покликав вас, а ви не відповіли!
I will even do unto the house which is called by my name, wherein ye trust, and unto the place which I gave to you and to your fathers, as I have done to Shiloh;
Тож Я зроблю з домом, в якому закликається Моє Ім’я, на який ви поклали надію, і з місцем, яке Я дав вам і вашим батькам, так, як Я вчинив із Силомом!
and I will cast you out of my sight, as I have cast out all your brethren, all the seed of Ephraim.
І відкину вас з-перед Себе, як і відкинув Я ваших братів — усе потомство Єфрема.
Judah's Idolatry Persists
And thou, pray not for this people, neither lift up cry nor prayer for them, and make not intercession to me; for I will not hear thee.

А ти не молися за цей народ і не роби себе гідним за них молитися, — не молися, і не звертайся до Мене за них, бо Я не вислухаю!
Seest thou not what they do in the cities of Judah, and in the streets of Jerusalem?
Хіба ти не бачиш, що вони роблять в містах Юди і на вулицях Єрусалима?
The children gather wood, and the fathers kindle the fire, and the women knead dough, to make cakes to the queen of heaven, and to pour out drink-offerings unto other gods, that they may provoke me to anger.
Їхні сини збирають дрова, і їхні батьки палять вогонь, а їхні жінки місять тісто, щоби зробити тістечка для небесного війська, і вони приносили жертви виливання чужим богам, щоб в Мене викликати гнів.
Is it I whom they provoke to anger? saith Jehovah; is it not themselves, to the shame of their own face?
Хіба вони Мене гнівлять, — говорить Господь, — хіба не себе самих, щоби покрилися соромом їхні обличчя?
Therefore thus saith the Lord Jehovah: Behold, mine anger and my fury shall be poured out upon this place; upon man, and upon beast, and upon the trees of the field, and upon the fruit of the ground; and it shall burn, and shall not be quenched.
Через це так говорить Господь: Ось гнів і Моя лють виливається на це місце, і на людей, на худобу, на всяке дерево в полі та на плоди землі, — і запалиться, і не погасне!
Thus saith Jehovah of hosts, the God of Israel: Add your burnt-offerings to your sacrifices, and eat the flesh.
Так говорить Господь: Ваші всепалення зберіть разом з вашими жертвами і їжте м’ясо!
For I spoke not unto your fathers, nor commanded them concerning burnt-offerings and sacrifices, in the day that I brought them out of the land of Egypt;
Бо Я не сказав вашим батькам, і Я не заповів їм у день, в який Я їх вивів із Єгипетської землі, про всепалення і жертви!
but I commanded them this thing, saying, Hearken unto my voice, and I will be your God, and ye shall be my people; and walk in all the way that I command you, that it may be well with you.
Але Я тільки заповів їм це слово, кажучи: Слухайтеся Мого голосу, і Я буду вам за Бога, а ви будете Мені за народ! І будете ходити всіма Моїми дорогами, які лиш Я вам заповідаю, щоб вам було добре!
But they hearkened not, nor inclined their ear, but walked in the counsels, in the stubbornness of their evil heart, and went backward and not forward.
Та вони не послухалися Мене, і не приклали їхнє вухо, але пішли за задумами їхнього злого серця, і пішли назад, а не вперед!
Since the day that your fathers came forth out of the land of Egypt, unto this day, have I sent unto you all my servants the prophets, daily rising up early and sending them;
З того часу, коли їхні батьки вийшли з Єгипетської землі й аж до цього дня Я посилав до вас усіх Моїх рабів-пророків, вдень і вранці! Я послав,
but they have not hearkened unto me, nor inclined their ear; and they have hardened their neck: they have done worse than their fathers.
та вони не послухалися Мене, і не нахилили їхнє вухо, і твердою зробили свою шию — більше, ніж їхні батьки!
And thou shalt speak all these words unto them, but they will not hearken unto thee; and thou shalt call unto them, but they will not answer thee.
І скажеш їм це слово: Це народ, який не послухався Господнього голосу і не сприйняв картання. Зникла надія з їхніх уст.
And thou shalt say unto them, This is the nation which hath not hearkened unto the voice of Jehovah their God, nor received correction; fidelity is perished, and is cut off from their mouth.
Cut off thy hair, and cast it away, and take up a lamentation on the heights; for Jehovah hath rejected and forsaken the generation of his wrath.
Обстрижи свою голову і викинь волосся, а на уста візьми плач, бо Господь відкинув і відсунув рід, який це чинить.
The Valley of Slaughter
For the children of Judah have done evil in my sight, saith Jehovah; they have set their abominations in the house which is called by my name, to defile it.

Адже сини Юди вчинили зло переді Мною, — говорить Господь, — вони поставили свої гидоти в домі, де закликається Моє Ім’я, щоби його осквернити.
And they have built the high places of Topheth, which is in the valley of the son of Hinnom, to burn their sons and their daughters in the fire; which I commanded not, neither did it come up into my mind.
І збудували жертовник Тафета, який є в долині сина Еннома, щоби спалювати своїх синів і своїх дочок у вогні, чого Я їм не заповідав — і задуму в серці Своєму не мав!
Therefore, behold, days are coming, saith Jehovah, when it shall no more be said, Topheth, and Valley of the son of Hinnom, but the valley of slaughter; for they shall bury in Topheth, till there be no place.
Через це ось приходять дні, — говорить Господь, — і більше не скажуть: Жертовник Тафета і Долина сина Еннома, але лише Долина винищених, і ховатимуть у Тафеті, тому що не вистачатиме місця.
And the carcases of this people shall be food for the fowl of the heavens, and for the beasts of the earth; and none shall scare [them] away.
І мертві цього народу будуть на їжу небесним птахам і звірам землі, і не буде того, хто відлякує.
And I will cause to cease from the cities of Judah, and from the streets of Jerusalem, the voice of mirth and the voice of joy, the voice of the bridegroom and the voice of the bride; for the land shall become a waste.
І заберу з міст Юди і з вулиць Єрусалима голос тих, які радіють, і голос тих, які веселяться, голос нареченого і голос нареченої, бо вся земля буде на спустошення.
