«Хто дасть мені у пустині притулок подорожніх? Я покину тоді народ мій і піду геть від нього, бо всі вони перелюбники, зрадників зграя.
Oh that I had in the wilderness a traveller's lodging-place, that I might leave my people, and go away from them! For they are all adulterers, an assembly of treacherous men.
Напинають язика свого, брехні лука. Зміцнились у краю, та не для правди, від одного бо ледарства до другого переходять; мене ж не знають, — слово Господнє.
And they bend their tongue, their bow of falsehood, and not for fidelity are they valiant in the land; for they proceed from evil to evil, and they know not me, saith Jehovah.
Стережіться одне одного і ні на якого брата не звіряйтесь, бо кожен брат лукаво чинить і кожен сусід наклеп розносить.
Take ye heed every one of his friend, and confide not in any brother; for every brother only supplanteth, and every friend goeth about with slander.
Кожен обманює сусіда свого і правди вони не говорять. Язик свій призвичаїли неправду говорити, лукавлять аж до очманіння.
And they act deceitfully every one with his neighbour, and speak not the truth: they teach their tongue to speak falsehood, they weary themselves with perverse dealing.
Твоя оселя посеред обману; з-за обману не хочуть мене знати», — слово Господнє.
Thy habitation is in the midst of deceit; through deceit they refuse to know me, saith Jehovah.
Тому так мовить Господь сил: «Ось я розтоплю їх і випробую; як же мені інакше вчинити з дочкою народу мого?
Therefore thus saith Jehovah of hosts: Behold, I will melt them, and try them; for how else could I do for the daughter of my people?
Нагострена стріла — язик їхній, він тільки про обман говорить. Мирно із своїм сусідою розмовляють своїми устами, а в серці своїм засідку готують.
Their tongue is a murderous arrow; it speaketh deceit. [A man] speaketh peaceably to his neighbour with his mouth, but in his heart he layeth his ambush.
Як же мені їх не скарати, — слово Господнє, — як же народові, як оцей, моя душа не мала б відплатити?
Shall I not visit them for these [things]? saith Jehovah; shall not my soul be avenged on such a nation as this?
Над горами здійму плач і ридання та по пасовиськах у пустині жалобну пісню: вони бо випалені, ніхто там не проходить, ревіння худоби більш не чути. Від птаха у небі і до звіря — усе порозбігалось, повтікало.
For the mountains will I take up weeping and wailing, and for the pastures of the wilderness, a lamentation; for they are burnt up, so that none passeth through them; and the voice of the cattle is not heard. Both the fowl of the heavens and the beasts are fled; they are gone.
Я зроблю з Єрусалиму купу каміння, кубло шакалів; а з міст Юдеї вчиню я безлюдну пустку.»
And I will make Jerusalem heaps, a dwelling-place of jackals; and I will make the cities of Judah a desolation, without inhabitant.
Хто такий мудрий, щоб це зрозуміти? Хто той, до кого уста Господні говорили, і хто міг би вказати? Чому загинув край, вигорілий, мов пустиня без перехожих?
Who is a wise man, that he may understand this? and he to whom the mouth of Jehovah hath spoken, that he may declare it? Why is the land perished, burnt up like a wilderness, so that none passeth through?
Господь сказав: «А що вони кинули закон мій, який я поклав був перед ними і не слухали голосу мого, і за ним не діяли,
And Jehovah saith, Because they have forsaken my law which I set before them, and have not hearkened unto my voice, nor walked in it,
лише ходили за пожаданням свого серця, за Ваалами, чого їх навчили батьки їхні, —
but have walked after the stubbornness of their own heart, and after the Baals, as their fathers taught them;
то на те так мовить Господь сил, Бог Ізраїля: Я нагодую їх, народ цей, полином і напою отруйною водою.
therefore thus saith Jehovah of hosts, the God of Israel, Behold, I will feed this people with wormwood, and give them water of gall to drink,
Я їх порозсіваю поміж народами, яких вони не знали, ні вони самі, ані їхні батьки, і пошлю слідом за ними меч, аж поки їх не знищу.»
and will scatter them among the nations, whom neither they nor their fathers have known; and I will send the sword after them, till I have consumed them.
Так каже Господь сил: «Розважте ж і покличте голосільниць, нехай прийдуть! Пошліть за мудрими жінками, нехай прийдуть.
Weeping in Jerusalem
Thus saith Jehovah of hosts: Consider, and call for the mourning women, that they may come, and send for the skilful women, that they may come;

І незабаром здіймуть над ними лемент, щоб очі наші слізьми стікали і наші вії виливалися водою.
and let them make haste, and take up a wailing for us, that our eyes may run down with tears, and our eyelids pour forth waters.
Бо плач голосний чути з Сіону: Як нас пограбовано, як тяжко соромом побито, ми бо покинули країну, наші бо житла нас повикидали!»
For a voice of wailing is heard out of Zion, How are we spoiled, sorely put to shame! For we have forsaken the land, for they have cast down our dwellings.
Ба, слухайте, ви, жінки, слово Господнє: хай вухо ваше прийме слово з уст його. Навчіть ваших дочок ридати, й одна одну — жалобно співати.
Hear then the word of Jehovah, ye women, and let your ear receive the word of his mouth, and teach your daughters wailing, and each one her companion lamentation.
Бо смерть продерлась у наші вікна, ввійшла в палати наші, щоб вигубити з вулиць діток, молодиків з майданів.
For death is come up through our windows, is entered into our palaces, to cut off the children from the street, the young men from the broadways.
Поляжуть люди трупом, немов гній на чистім полі, немов снопи позад женця, та нікому буде збирати.
Speak, Thus saith Jehovah: Yea, the carcases of men shall fall as dung upon the open field, and as the handful after the reaper, and there shall be none to gather.
Так говорить Господь: «Хай не хвалиться мудрий мудрістю своєю, хай не хвалиться сильний силою своєю, хай не хвалиться багатий своїм багатством.
Thus saith Jehovah: Let not the wise glory in his wisdom, neither let the mighty glory in his might; let not the rich glory in his riches:
Ні! Хто хвалиться, хай хвалиться тим, що розуміє і знає мене, що я — Господь, який творю милость і суд, і справедливість на землі; мені бо це довподоби, — слово Господнє.
but let him that glorieth glory in this, that he understandeth and knoweth me, that I [am] Jehovah, who exercise loving-kindness, judgment, and righteousness in the earth; for in these things I delight, saith Jehovah.
