Idolatrous Elders Condemned

And there came certain of the elders of Israel unto me, and sat before me.

1

І прийшли до мене мужі зі старійшин Ізраїля, і сіли перед моїм обличчям.

2

And the word of Jehovah came unto me, saying,

І до мене було Господнє слово, що промовляло:

3

Son of man, these men have set up their idols in their heart, and put the stumbling-block of their iniquity before their face: should I be inquired of at all by them?

3

Людський сину, ці чоловіки поклали їхні задуми на їхні серця і поставили муку їхніх неправедних перед їхнім обличчям. Хіба я можу відповісти [1] їм?

4

Therefore speak to them, and say unto them, Thus saith the Lord Jehovah: Every man of the house of Israel that setteth up his idols in his heart, and putteth the stumbling-block of his iniquity before his face, and cometh to the prophet, I Jehovah will answer him according to this, according to the multitude of his idols:

Через це заговори до них і скажеш їм: Так говорить Господь: Кожна людина [2] з дому Ізраїля, яка тільки покладе свої задуми на своє серце і муку своєї неправедності поставить перед своїм обличчям, і прийде до пророка, Я, Господь, відповім йому на те, над чим він роздумує,

that I may take the house of Israel by their own heart, because they are all estranged from me through their idols.

щоб він звів дім Ізраїля за їхніми серцями, що відчужені від Мене в їхніх задумах.

Therefore say unto the house of Israel, Thus saith the Lord Jehovah: Return ye, and turn yourselves from your idols; and turn away your faces from all your abominations.

Через це скажи домові Ізраїля: Так говорить Господь, Господь. Поверніться і відверніться від ваших починів і від усіх ваших безбожностей, і поверніть ваші обличчя,

7

For every one of the house of Israel, or of the strangers that sojourn in Israel, who separateth himself from me, and setteth up his idols in his heart, and putteth the stumbling-block of his iniquity before his face, and cometh to the prophet to inquire of me by him, I Jehovah will answer him by myself;

тому що кожна людина [3] з дому Ізраїля і з приходьків, що перебувають в Ізраїлі, яка лиш є відчужена від Мене, і поставить свої почини у своє серце, і поставить муку своєї неправедності перед своїм обличчям, і прийде до пророка, щоби через нього запитати Мене, Я, Господь, йому відповім за тим, що є в ньому.

and I will set my face against that man, and will make him desolate, [so that he shall be] for a sign and for proverbs, and I will cut him off from the midst of my people: and ye shall know that I [am] Jehovah.

8

І скріплю Моє обличчя проти того чоловіка, і поставлю його в пустелю та в знищення, і вирву його з-посеред Мого народу. І пізнаєте, що Я — Господь.

9

And if the prophet be enticed and shall speak a word, I Jehovah have enticed that prophet; and I will stretch out my hand against him, and will destroy him from the midst of my people Israel.

І якщо пророк зведе, і скаже, Я, Господь, обманув того пророка, — то простягну Мою руку на нього, і винищу його з-посеред Мого народу Ізраїля.

10

And they shall bear their iniquity: the iniquity of the prophet shall be even as the iniquity of the inquirer;

10

І візьмуть їхню неправедність. За неправедністю того, що питається, і за неправедністю так само буде пророкові,

11

that the house of Israel may go no more astray from me, neither make themselves any more unclean with all their transgressions; and they shall be my people, and I will be their God, saith the Lord Jehovah.

11

щоби більше не зводив дім Ізраїля від Мене, і щоби більше не опоганювалися всіма своїми провинами. І будуть Мені за народ, і Я буду їм за Бога, — говорить Господь.

12

God's Irrevocable Sentence

And the word of Jehovah came unto me, saying,

І до мене було Господнє слово, що промовляло:

13

Son of man, when a land sinneth against me by working unfaithfulness, and I stretch out my hand upon it, and break the staff of the bread thereof, and send famine upon it, and cut off man and beast from it;

13

Людський сину, якщо земля згрішить проти Мене, щоб учинити переступ, і Я простягну Мою руку проти неї, і знищу в ній запаси хліба, і пошлю на неї голод, і зберу з неї людину та худобу,

14

though these three men, Noah, Daniel, and Job, should be in it, they should deliver [but] their own souls by their righteousness, saith the Lord Jehovah.

14

і якщо будуть ці три чоловіки посеред неї, — Ной, Даниїл і Йов, — ці у своїй праведності врятуються, — говорить Господь.

15

If I cause evil beasts to pass through the land, and they bereave it, and it become a desolation, so that no one passeth through because of the beasts;

15

І якщо наводжу на землю поганих звірів і мститимуся на ній, і буде на знищення, і не буде нікого, хто проходить від обличчя звірів,

16

-- though these three men should be in it, [as] I live, saith the Lord Jehovah, they should deliver neither sons nor daughters: they only should be delivered, and the land should be a desolation.

16

і ці три чоловіки будуть посеред неї, живу Я, — говорить Господь, — якщо сини чи дочки врятуються, але тільки вони самі врятуються, а земля буде на знищення.

17

Or [if] I bring the sword upon that land, and say, Sword, go through the land, so that I cut off man and beast from it,

Чи й коли Я наводжу меч на ту землю і скажу: Нехай меч пройде через землю, і заберу з неї людину та худобу,

18

and these three men should be in it, [as] I live, saith the Lord Jehovah, they should deliver neither sons nor daughters, but they only themselves should be delivered.

18

і цих троє чоловіків є посеред неї, живу Я, — говорить Господь, — не врятують синів, ані дочок, вони ж самі врятуються.

19

Or [if] I send a pestilence into that land, and pour out my fury upon it in blood, to cut off from it man and beast,

Чи й смерть посилаю на ту землю і виллю на неї Мій гнів у крові, щоб вигубити з неї людину та худобу,

20

and Noah, Daniel, and Job should be in it, [as] I live, saith the Lord Jehovah, they should deliver neither son nor daughter: they should [but] deliver their own souls by their righteousness.

20

і Ной, Даниїл і Йов є посеред неї, живу Я, — говорить Господь, — якщо залишаться сини чи дочки, то тільки ці у своїй праведності врятують свої душі.

21

For thus saith the Lord Jehovah: How much more when I send my four sore judgments upon Jerusalem, the sword, and the famine, and the evil beast, and the pestilence, to cut off from it man and beast!

21

Так говорить Господь: Якщо ж і Мої чотири злі помсти, меч і голод, погані звірі й смерть, пошлю проти Єрусалима, щоб вигубити з нього людину та худобу.

22

But behold, there shall be left in it those that escape, who shall be brought out of [it], sons and daughters. Behold, they shall come forth unto you, and ye shall see their way and their doings; and ye shall be comforted concerning the evil that I have brought upon Jerusalem, as to all that I have brought upon it.

Ось і решта в ній, що врятувалася з нього, які виводять синів і дочок, ось вони виходять до вас, і побачите їхні дороги та їхні почини! І покаєтеся за зло, яке Я навів на Єрусалим, усе зло, яке Я навів на нього.

23

And they shall comfort you, when ye see their way and their doings; and ye shall know that I have not done without cause all that I have done in it, saith the Lord Jehovah.

23

І вони потішать вас, тому що ви побачите їхні дороги та їхні почини, і пізнаєте, що не на марно Я зробив усе, що в ньому зробив, — говорить Господь.
