Jerusalem the Useless Vine
And the word of Jehovah came unto me, saying,
And the word of Jehovah came unto me, saying,
Было ко мне слово Господа:
Son of man, what is the wood of the vine more than any wood, the vine-branch, which is among the trees of the forest?
— Сын человеческий, чем древесина виноградной лозы лучше древесины ветвей всех деревьев леса?
Shall wood be taken thereof to do any work? or will [men] take a pin of it to hang any vessel thereon?
Разве берут древесину виноградной лозы, чтобы сделать что-нибудь нужное? Разве делают из нее хотя бы колышки, чтобы развешивать вещи?
Behold, it is given to the fire for fuel: the fire consumeth both the ends of it, and the midst of it is burned; is it fit for [any] work?
А когда ее бросают в огонь как топливо, и огонь сжигает оба ее конца и обугливает середину, то годится ли она на что-нибудь?
Behold, when it was whole, it was used for no work; how much less when the fire hath consumed it, and it is burned, should it yet be used for any work?
Если она ни на что не годилась, когда была целой, то на что же она сгодится после того, как ее поглотил огонь, и она обуглилась?
Therefore thus saith the Lord Jehovah: As the wood of the vine among the trees of the forest, which I have given to the fire for fuel, so will I give the inhabitants of Jerusalem.
Поэтому так говорит Владыка Господь:
— Как Я отдал древесину виноградной лозы среди деревьев леса на пожирание огню, так поступлю Я и с жителями Иерусалима.

And I will set my face against them: they shall go forth from [one] fire, and [another] fire shall devour them; and ye shall know that I [am] Jehovah when I set my face against them.
Я обращу лицо Мое против них. Даже если они выберутся из огня, огонь все равно поглотит их. И когда Я обращу против них лицо, вы узнаете, что Я — Господь.
