Jerusalem's Unfaithfulness
And the word of Jehovah came unto me, saying,
And the word of Jehovah came unto me, saying,
І надійшло до мене слово Господнє:
Son of man, cause Jerusalem to know her abominations,
Сину чоловічий! вияви Ерусалимові гидоту його
and say, Thus saith the Lord Jehovah unto Jerusalem: Thy birth and thy nativity is of the land of the Canaanite: thy father was an Amorite, and thy mother a Hittite.
Та й промов: Так говорить Господь Бог дочцї Ерусалимській: Корінь твій і кодло твоє — із землї Канаанської; батько твій — Аморій, а мати Гетійка.
And as for thy nativity, in the day thou wast born thy navel was not cut, neither wast thou washed in water for cleansing; thou wast not rubbed with salt at all, nor swaddled at all.
При народинах твоїх, того дня, як ти родилась, нї пупка тобі не обрізано, нї водою тебе не облито, нї сіллю не натерто анї в пеленки не повито.
No eye pitied thee, to do any of these unto thee, to have compassion upon thee; but thou wast cast out in the open field, from abhorrence of thy person, in the day that thou wast born.
Нїчиє око тебе не пожалувало, щоб із милосердя хоч одно що з сього тобі зробити; нї, тебе викинуто в поле, — так мало цїновано душу твою того дня, як народилась єси.
And I passed by thee, and saw thee weltering in thy blood, and I said unto thee, in thy blood, Live! yea, I said unto thee, in thy blood, Live!
І йшов я мимо тебе й побачив, тебе покинуту під ноги в крові твоїй, та й сказав тобі: Хоч ти й в крові — жий! Так, я сказав тобі: Живи в твоїй крові!
I caused thee to multiply, as the bud of the field; and thou didst increase and grow great, and thou camest to fulness of beauty; [thy] breasts were fashioned, and thy hair grew: but thou wast naked and bare.
І наплодив я тебе безлїч, як того зілля в полі; й виросла єси й зробилась велика й дойшла до принадної вроди; позаокруглювались груди в тебе, та й волос виріс густо; тілько ж була ти нага й невкрита.
And I passed by thee, and looked upon thee, and behold, thy time was the time of love; and I spread my skirt over thee, and covered thy nakedness; and I swore unto thee, and entered into a covenant with thee, saith the Lord Jehovah, and thou becamest mine.
І переходив я попри тебе й побачив тебе, й видко було, що прийшла твоя пора любови. І накинув я полу одежі моєї на тебе, й прикрив наготу твою, й звязав себе з тобою присягою, говорить Господь Бог, та й стала ти моєю.
And I washed thee with water, and thoroughly washed away thy blood from thee, and I anointed thee with oil;
І викупав я тебе в водї, обмив із тебе кров та й намастив тебе олїєю.
and I clothed thee with embroidered work, and shod thee with badgers' skin, and I bound thee about with byssus, and covered thee with silk.
І вдїг тебе в квітчасту одїж, й обув тебе в сафіянову обув, підперезав тебе висоном і обгорнув тебе шовками.
And I decked thee with ornaments, and I put bracelets upon thy hands, and a chain on thy neck;
Окрасив тебе приборами: надїв тобі на руки запинки, а на шию намисто,
and I put a ring on thy nose, and earrings in thine ears, and a beautiful crown upon thy head.
Почепив тобі каблучку до носа й сережки до ушей, та й надїв тобі пишний вінець на голову.
Thus wast thou decked with gold and silver, and thy raiment was byssus, and silk, and embroidered work. Thou didst eat fine flour, and honey, and oil; and thou becamest exceedingly beautiful, and thou didst prosper into a kingdom.
І красувалась ти в золотї й сріблї, а твоя одїж була — висон, шовк та взорчаста тканина; а годувалась ти пшеничною мукою та медом, і зробилась прегарною, та й доступила царської величностї.
And thy fame went forth among the nations for thy beauty; for it was perfect through my magnificence, which I had put upon thee, saith the Lord Jehovah.
І пронеслась твоя слава між народи через уроду твою; була бо ти звершена в тих пишних прикрасах, що я вложив на тебе, говорить Господь.
But thou didst confide in thy beauty, and playedst the harlot because of thy renown, and pouredst out thy whoredoms on every one that passed by: his it was.
Ти ж, горда на свою вроду та на велику славу твою, стала блудувати, й щедрила, блудуючи, кожного прохожого, оддаючись йому.
And of thy garments thou didst take, and madest for thyself high places decked with divers colours, and didst play the harlot thereupon: [the like] hath not come to pass, and shall be no more.
І вживала квітчастої одежі твоєї, щоб прибирати свої висоти та й блудувала на них так, як не бувало й не буде.
And thou didst take thy fair jewels of my gold and of my silver, which I had given thee, and madest to thyself images of males, and didst commit fornication with them.
І взяла єси прикраси твої з мого золота й мого срібла, що я понадаровував тобі, та й поробила собі мужеські подобини з них і блудувала з ними.
And thou tookest thine embroidered garments, and coveredst them; and thou didst set mine oil and mine incense before them.
І брала єси квітковане платтє твоє, та й з'одягала їх ним, і покладала перед ними кадило моє й оливу мою,
And my bread which I had given thee, the fine flour and the oil and the honey wherewith I fed thee, thou didst even set it before them for a sweet savour: thus it was, saith the Lord Jehovah.
Та й хлїб мій, що я давав тобі, пшенишне борошно, олїю й мід, що ними я годував тебе, — те все покладала ти перед ними в любі пахощі їм; таке то коїлось! — говорить Господь Бог.
And thou didst take thy sons and thy daughters, whom thou hadst borne unto me, and these didst thou sacrifice unto them, to be devoured. Were thy whoredoms a small matter,
І брала єси твої сини й дочки твої, що роджала єси менї, та й приносила їм у жертву, — нїби ще не досить було тобі блудування твого.
that thou didst slay my children and give them up in passing them over to them?
Та ще й так жертвувала їм твої дїти, що проводила їх крізь огонь.
And in all thine abominations and thy whoredoms thou hast not remembered the days of thy youth, when thou wast naked and bare, when thou wast weltering in thy blood.
І при всїх гидотах твоїх та блудодїйствах твоїх ти й не згадала про часи молодощів твоїх, як була нага й невкрита та покинута на потоптаннє в крові твоїй.
And it came to pass after all thy wickedness (woe, woe unto thee! saith the Lord Jehovah),
А до всього ледарства твого — о, горе, горе тобі! — говорить Господь Бог, —
that thou didst also build unto thee a place of debauchery, and didst make thee a high place in every street:
Понабудовувала собі будинки про блудуваннє, построїла хижі на всякому майданї;
thou didst build thy high place at every head of the way, and madest thy beauty to be abhorred, and thou didst open thy feet to every one that passed by, and multiply thy whoredom.
Та на кожному шляховому роздорожжі споруджувала собі висоти, соромила вроду твою, і розкладала ноги твої кожному прохожому, й не знала годї в блудуванні твойму.
And thou didst commit fornication with the Egyptians thy neighbours, great of flesh; and didst multiply thy whoredom to provoke me to anger.
Блудувала єси з Египтїями, сусїдьми твоїми, довгорослими, й множила без кінця блудодїйства твої, доводючи мене до гнїву.
And behold, I stretched out my hand over thee, and diminished thine appointed portion; and I gave thee over unto the will of them that hate thee, the daughters of the Philistines, who were confounded at thy lewd way.
Тим же то простиг я руку мою проти тебе та й поменшив призначене тобі на прожиток, та й оддав тебе на самоволю ненавидниць твоїх, дочок Филистійських, що й самі соромляться розпустної дороги твоєї.
And thou didst commit fornication with the Assyrians, because thou wast insatiable; yea, thou didst commit fornication with them, and yet couldest not be satisfied.
І блудувала єси з Ассирийцями, та й не наситилась, розпустувала з ними, та й не вгоноблялась.
And thou didst multiply thy whoredom with the land of merchants, Chaldea, and yet thou wast not satisfied herewith.
І додавала нову розпусту в землї Канаанській з крамарями Халдеями, та й тим іще не вдовольнилась.
How weak is thy heart, saith the Lord Jehovah, seeing thou doest all these [things], the work of a whorish woman, under no restraint;
Яке ж утомлене мало бути серце в тебе, говорить Господь Бог, як ти все те коїла, як та непринуздана блудниця!
in that thou buildest thy place of debauchery at the head of every way, and makest thy high place in every street! And thou hast not been as a harlot, in that thou scornest reward,
Коли будувала собі розпустничі хижі на кожному роздоріжжі й ставила підвисшення на кожному майданї, була ти не звичайною блудницею, — бо ти не приймала блудничої плати, —
O adulterous wife, that taketh strangers instead of her husband.
Але була перелюбною жінкою, що замість свого мужа, приймала чужих.
They give rewards to all harlots; but thou gavest thy rewards to all thy lovers, and rewardedst them, that they might come unto thee on every side for thy whoredoms.
Усїм блудницям платять; ти ж сама давала гостинцї полюбовникам твоїм, і підкупувала, щоб вони звідусюди приходили до тебе на блудодїйство.
And in thee is the contrary from [other] women, in thy whoredoms, in that none followeth thee to commit fornication; and whereas thou givest a reward, and no reward is given unto thee, so art thou contrary.
Ти в твоїй розпустї поводилась в супереч усїм жінкам, бо не тебе шукали, а ти сама платила, тобі ж плати не давано.
Judgment on Jerusalem
Therefore, O harlot, hear the word of Jehovah.

Тим же то послухай, блуднице, слова Господнього!
Thus saith the Lord Jehovah: Because thy money hath been poured out, and thy nakedness discovered through thy fornications with thy lovers, and with all the idols of thine abominations, and because of the blood of thy children which thou didst give unto them;
Так говорить Господь Бог: За те, що ти розкидала гроші свої, і в розпустї твоїй відкривалась нагота твоя перед полюбовниками твоїми, та перед усїма гидкими ідолами твоїми, й що оддавала їм кров дїтей твоїх, —
therefore, behold, I will gather all thy lovers with whom thou hast taken pleasure, and all that thou hast loved, with all that thou hast hated, -- I will even gather them round about against thee, and will discover thy nakedness unto them, that they may see all thy nakedness.
За се я позбіраю всїх полюбовників твоїх, що з ними ти розпустувала й їх любила, — вкупі з тими, що їх ненавидїла єси, — зберу їх звідусїль, і розкрию перед ними наготу твою і взрять вони ввесь сором твій.
And I will judge thee with the judgments of women that commit adultery and shed blood; and I will give thee up to the blood of fury and jealousy;
І судити му тебе судом на зрадливих жінок і кроворозливниць, і наведу на тебе кроваву кару лютої ревнивостї;
and I will give thee into their hand, and they shall throw down thy place of debauchery, and shall break down thy high places; and they shall strip thee of thy garments, and shall take thy fair jewels, and leave thee naked and bare.
І подам тебе їм на поталу, й порозбурюють вони розпустничі хижі твої й підвисшення твої, і зорвуть із тебе одїж твою, й заберуть прикраси твої, та й покинуть тебе нагою й невкритою.
And they shall bring up an assemblage against thee, and they shall stone thee with stones, and thrust thee through with their swords.
І скличуть проти тебе громаду та й побють тебе каміннєм, й порубають тебе мечами своїми.
And they shall burn thy houses with fire, and execute judgments upon thee in the sight of many women; and I will cause thee to cease from being a harlot, and thou also shalt give no more any reward.
І пустять на пожар будинки твої, й зроблять суд над тобою в очах многих жінок; і положу конець блудуванню твойму й не будеш уже давати дарунків.
And I will appease my fury against thee, and my jealousy shall depart from thee; and I will be quiet, and will be no more angry.
І зжену на тобі досаду мою, й відступить від тебе пересердє моє, й втихомирюсь і більш не буду лютувати.
Because thou hast not remembered the days of thy youth, but hast raged against me in all these [things], behold, therefore, I also will recompense thy way upon [thy] head, saith the Lord Jehovah, and thou shalt not commit this lewdness besides all thine abominations.
За се, що не спогадала єси про часи молодощів твоїх і роздосадувала мене всїма тими вчинками, — оберну я поступки твої на твою голову, говорить Господь Бог, щоб не чинила вже гріха після всїх гидот твоїх.
Behold, every one that useth proverbs shall speak in a proverb against thee, saying, As the mother, [so is] her daughter!
Ось, кожен, хто приповістями говорить, може сказати про тебе: Яка мати, така й доня.
Thou art the daughter of thy mother that loathed her husband and her children; and thou art the sister of thy sisters, who loathed their husbands and their children. Your mother was a Hittite, and your father an Amorite.
Ти — дочка, вдалась у матїр твою, що покинула чоловіка свого й дїтей своїх; ти — сестра сестер твоїх, що покинули чоловіків своїх і дїток своїх. Мати ваша Гетійка, а батько ваш — Аморій.
And thine elder sister is Samaria that dwelleth at thy left hand, she and her daughters; and thy younger sister, that dwelleth at thy right hand, is Sodom and her daughters.
Старша ж сестра твоя — се Самария з дочками своїми, що живе на лїво від тебе, а менша сестра твоя, що живе на право од тебе, — се Содома з її дочками.
And thou hast not walked in their ways, nor done according to their abominations; but as though that were a very little, thou hast been more corrupt than they in all thy ways.
Та ти й не по їх дорогах ходила й не їх гидоти коїла; того було в тебе ще мало: ти витворяла ще гірше нїж вони в усїх путях твоїх.
[As] I live, saith the Lord Jehovah, Sodom thy sister hath not done, she nor her daughters, as thou hast done, thou and thy daughters!
Так певно, як я живу, говорить Господь Бог: сестра твоя Содома з її дочками не чинила такого, як ти з твоїми дочками чинила.
Behold, this was the iniquity of thy sister Sodom: pride, fulness of bread, and careless ease was in her and in her daughters, but she did not strengthen the hand of the poor and needy.
Ось, у чому була беззаконна Содома, сестра твоя, з її дочками: в гординї, в немірностї й в дармованнї, та й ще, що вона бідолашньому й злиденньому помічної руки не подавала.
And they were haughty, and committed abomination before me, and I took them away when I saw [it].
Вони розгордїли й чинили гидоти передо мною, а я побачивши се, відкинув їх.
And Samaria hath not sinned according to the half of thy sins; but thou hast multiplied thine abominations more than they, and hast justified thy sisters by all thine abominations which thou hast done.
Самария ж не нагрішила й половини того, що ти; ти переважила їх у гидотах твоїх; у прирівняннї до твоїх мерзот показались ті сестри твої праведнїйшими за тебе.
Thou also, who hast judged thy sisters, bear thine own confusion, because of thy sins in which thou hast acted more abominably than they: they are more righteous than thou. So be thou ashamed also, and bear thy confusion, in that thou hast justified thy sisters.
Неси ж соромоту твою й ти, що ганила сестер твоїх; ти бо переважила їх гидотами твоїми, й мерзотами твоїми, які ти творила, оправдила єси їх.
And I will bring again their captivity, the captivity of Sodom and her daughters, and the captivity of Samaria and her daughters, and the captivity of thy captives in the midst of them;
Та я відкличу полонь їх, заверну полонених потомків Содоми й дочок її, та полонених Самариї й дочок її, а з ними й твоїх полонених.
that thou mayest bear thy confusion, and mayest be confounded for all that thou hast done, in that thou comfortest them.
Щоб ти несла сором твій і стидилась усього того, що коїла, й потїшила їх.
And thy sisters, Sodom and her daughters, shall return to their former estate, and Samaria and her daughters shall return to their former estate; thou also and thy daughters, ye shall return to your former estate.
І сестри твої, Содома з дочками своїми, вернуться до свого першого стану, й Самария й дочки її вернуться до свого першого стану, а вкінцї й ти та й дочки твої вернетесь до вашого першого стану.
Yea, Sodom thy sister was not mentioned by thy mouth in the day of thy pride,
Про сестру твою Содому, не було й згадки в устах твоїх за часів гордощів твоїх,
before thy wickedness was discovered, as at the time of the reproach of the daughters of Syria, and of all that are round about her, the daughters of the Philistines, who despise thee on every side.
Аж доки ледарство твоє не виявилось, а ти з того часу попала в погорду в дочок Сирийських і всїх округи їх, дочок Филистійських, що зневажливо глядїли на тебе з усїх боків.
Thy lewdness and thine abominations, thou bearest them, saith Jehovah.
Так, за ледарство твоє та за гидоти твої ти приймаєш кару, говорить Господь Бог.
The Covenant Remembered
For thus saith the Lord Jehovah: I will even deal with thee as thou hast done, who hast despised the oath, and broken the covenant.

Так бо говорить Господь Бог: Вчиню з тобою так, як ти чинила, зневаживши присягу й зірвавши вмову зо мною.
Nevertheless I will remember my covenant with thee in the days of thy youth, and I will establish unto thee an everlasting covenant.
Та я спогадаю про мій завіт із тобою за часів молодощів твоїх, та й відновлю завіт віковічний з тобою.
And thou shalt remember thy ways, and be confounded, when thou shalt receive thy sisters who are older than thou, together with those who are younger than thou; for I will give them unto thee for daughters, but not by virtue of thy covenant.
І спогадаєш про блудні дороги твої та й засоромишся, як почнеш приймати до себе сестер твоїх, старших і менших від тебе, та коли я давати му їх тобі за дочки, — та не з давної вмови твоєї (зо мною).
And I will establish my covenant with thee, and thou shalt know that I [am] Jehovah;
І поновлю вмову мою з тобою, й взнаєш, що я — Господь,
that thou mayest remember, and be ashamed, and no more open thy mouth because of thy confusion, when I forgive thee all that thou hast done, saith the Lord Jehovah.
Щоб ти згадала про все й соромилась, та не посьміла з великого стиду й уст отворити, як я все давне прощу тобі, що ти творила, говорить Господь Бог.
