The Parable of the Cooking Pot
And in the ninth year, in the tenth month, on the tenth of the month, the word of Jehovah came unto me, saying,

І надійшло слово Господнє до мене в девятому роцї, у десятому місяцї, на девятий день місяця — таке:
Son of man, write thee the name of the day, of this selfsame day: on this selfsame day the king of Babylon draws near to Jerusalem.
Сину чоловічий! запиши собі число сього дня, сього самого дня; сього бо самого дня вдарить царь Вавилонський на Ерусалим.
And propose a parable unto the rebellious house, and say unto them, Thus saith the Lord Jehovah: Set on the pot, set [it] on, and also pour water into it.
І приточи сьому неслухняному домові примір, та й промов до його: Так говорить Господь Бог: Постав котел, постав та налий в його води;
Gather the pieces thereof into it, every good piece, the thigh and the shoulder; fill [it] with the choice bones:
Повкладай в його шматки мясива, що найлучші куснї, — стегна й лопатки з усїма їх здоровенними кістками, —
take the choice of the flock; and also [put] a pile of wood under it, for the bones; make it boil well, and let the bones of it seethe therein.
Набери їх із добірних овець — та й наложи під казана костей, і нехай кипить усе доти, аж і костї розваряться.
Therefore thus saith the Lord Jehovah: Woe to the bloody city, to the pot whose rust is therein, and whose rust is not gone out of it! Bring it out piece by piece; let no lot fall upon it:
Бо так говорить Господь Бог: Горе крововинному місту! горе казанові заржавілому, що ржа не відстає від його! шматок за шматком повикидають із його, не вибираючи їх по жеребу.
for her blood is in the midst of her; she set it upon the bare rock; she poured it not upon the ground, to cover it with dust.
Бо пролита ним кров і досі посеред него; на голій скелї вона, він бо не проливав її на землю, де б вона покрилась була порохом.
That it might cause fury to come up to execute vengeance, I have set her blood upon the bare rock, that it should not be covered.
Щоб розбудити в собі досаду, й над ним помститись, оставив я пролиту ним кров на голій скелї, щоб вона не прикрилась.
Therefore thus saith the Lord Jehovah: Woe to the bloody city! I also will make the pile great.
Тим же то так говорить Господь Бог: Горе місту крововинному! з його накладу я величезну купу.
Heap on the wood, kindle the fire, boil thoroughly the flesh, and spice it well, and let the bones be burned.
Додавай підпалу, роздувай огонь; виварюй мясиво, нехай усе аж загусне й костї порозпадаються.
Then set it empty upon its coals, that it may be hot, and the brass of it may burn, and that its filthiness may be molten in it, [and] that its rust may be consumed.
Тодї постав порожного казана на жару, щоб розжаривсь і мідь його розпустилась, і нечисть в йому витопилась, і ржа його зникла.
She hath exhausted [her] labours, yet her great rust goeth not forth out of her: let her rust be in the fire.
Та шкода тяжкої працї! груба ржа не зійде з його; і в огнї полишиться на йому ржа його.
In thy filthiness is lewdness, for I have purged thee, and thou art not pure. Thou shalt no more be purged from thy filthiness, till I have satisfied my fury upon thee.
В нечистотї твоїй стільки поганї, що скілько й не намагався тебе очистити, ти все таки нечиста; од нечистї твоєї ти й далїй не очистишся, аж докіль я удовольню мою досаду на тобі!
I Jehovah have spoken [it]: it shall come to pass, and I will do it; I will not go back, neither will I spare, nor will I repent. According to thy ways, and according to thy doings, shall they judge thee, saith the Lord Jehovah.
Я, Господь, я говорю се; воно прийде, я вчиню так; нїчого з того не зміню; не буде в мене пощади, не буде помилування. По твоїх поступках і по твоїх учинках будуть судити тебе, говорить Господь Бог.
Ezekiel's Wife Dies
And the word of Jehovah came unto me, saying,

І надійшло до мене слово Господнє:
Son of man, behold, I take away from thee the desire of thine eyes with a stroke; yet thou shalt not mourn nor weep, neither shall thy tears run down.
Сину чоловічий! ось я возьму в тебе втїху очей твоїх через недугу; та ти не жалкуй, не плач не рони сьліз;
Sigh in silence, make no mourning for the dead; bind thy turban upon thee, and put thy sandals upon thy feet, and cover not the beard, and eat not the bread of men.
Мовчки зітхай, звичайного голосїння по мертвих не справляй; обвивай собі завивало, вбувай ноги в твою обуву, не закривай бороди та й не їж від чужих (старечого) хлїба.
-- And I spoke unto the people in the morning; and at even my wife died. And I did in the morning as I was commanded.
І говорив я про се вранцї до люду, увечорі ж умерла жінка моя; а назавтра чинив я, як менї заповідано.
And the people said unto me, Wilt thou not tell us what these things are to us, which thou doest?
І питали в мене люде: Чи то ж нам не скажеш, що воно має значити, що ти так робиш?
And I said to them, The word of Jehovah came unto me, saying,
А я відказав їм: До мене надійшло слово Господнє, таке:
Say unto the house of Israel, Thus saith the Lord Jehovah: Behold, I will profane my sanctuary, the pride of your strength, the desire of your eyes, and your soul's longing; and your sons and your daughters whom ye have left behind shall fall by the sword.
Скажи домові Ізрайлевому: Так говорить Господь Бог: Ось, я передаю на опоганеннє сьвятиню мою, — сесю опору сили вашої, роскіш очей ваших і одраду душі вашої, а сини ваші й дочки ваші, що ви позоставляли, поляжуть од меча.
And ye shall do as I have done: ye shall not cover the beard, neither eat the bread of men;
А ви чинити мете так, як я вчинив тепер: не будете закривати бороди й хлїба од чужих не будете їсти;
and your turbans shall be upon your heads, and your sandals upon your feet: ye shall not mourn nor weep; but ye shall waste away in your iniquities and moan one toward another.
Обвивала ваші остануть на головах у вас і обува ваша — на ногах ваших; не будете побиватись і плакати а осторопієте перед гріхами вашими й одно перед одним будете стогнати.
Thus Ezekiel shall be unto you a sign; according to all that he hath done shall ye do: when it cometh, then ye shall know that I [am] the Lord Jehovah.
І буде вам Езекиїл знаком пророчим, бо так само, як він чинив, чинити мете й ви; а як те все станеться, зрозумієте, що я — Господь Бог.
And thou, son of man, shall it not be in the day when I take from them their strength, the joy of their glory, the desire of their eyes, and that whereunto they lift up their soul, their sons and their daughters,
Що ж до тебе, сину чоловічий, то в той день, як уйму їм окрасу слави їх, радощі очей їх, і відраду душі їх, — їх синів і дочки їх, —
that in that day he that escapeth shall come unto thee, to cause [thine] ears to hear [it]?
Того дня прийде до тебе звідти такий, що врятуєсь, щоб принести вістку в уші твої.
In that day shall thy mouth be opened to him that is escaped, and thou shalt speak, and be no more dumb. So shalt thou be a sign unto them; and they shall know that I [am] Jehovah.
Того дня одверзуться уста твої разом із устами втїкача того, й станеш (уже сьміливо) говорити, й не будеш уже мовчати, та й станешся їм ознакою, щоб зрозуміли, що я — Господь.
