Belshazzar, while he tasted the wine, commanded to bring the golden and silver vessels that Nebuchadnezzar his father had taken out of the temple which was in Jerusalem; that the king and his nobles, his wives and his concubines, might drink in them.
Коли вино опанувало розум, Валтаса́р наказав прине́сти золотий та срібний по́суд, який виніс був його батько Навуходоно́сор із храму, що в Єрусалимі, щоб із нього пили́ цар та вельможі його, його жінки́ та його нало́жниці.
Then they brought the golden vessels that were taken out of the temple of the house of God which was at Jerusalem; and the king and his nobles, his wives and his concubines, drank in them.
Тоді прине́сли золотий по́суд, що винесли з храму божого дому, що в Єрусалимі, і пили́ з них цар та вельмо́жі його, жінки́ його та його нало́жниці.
They drank wine, and praised the gods of gold and of silver, of brass, of iron, of wood, and of stone.

The Handwriting on the Wall
In the same hour came forth fingers of a man's hand, and wrote over against the candlestick upon the plaster of the wall of the king's palace: and the king saw the part of the hand that wrote.

Аж ось тієї хвилини вийшли пальці людсько́ї руки́, і писали навпро́ти свічника́ на вапні́ стіни царсько́го пала́цу, і цар бачив за́рис руки, що писала.
Then the king's countenance was changed, and his thoughts troubled him, and the joints of his loins were loosed, and his knees smote one against another.
Тоді зміни́лася ясність царя, і думки́ його настра́шили його, ослабі́ли сугло́би кри́жів його, і билися коліна його одне об о́дне.
The king cried aloud to bring in the magicians, the Chaldeans, and the astrologers. The king spoke and said to the wise men of Babylon, Whosoever shall read this writing, and shew me the interpretation thereof, shall be clothed with purple, and have a chain of gold about his neck, and shall be the third ruler in the kingdom.
Цар сильно закричав приве́сти заклиначі́в, халде́їв та віщуні́в. Цар заговорив та й сказав вавилонським мудреця́м: „Кожен муж, що прочитає це писа́ння й об'явить мені його ро́зв'язку, той зодя́гне пурпу́ру й золотого ланцюга́ на свою шию, і буде панувати третім у царстві“.
Then came in all the king's wise men, but they could not read the writing, nor make known to the king the interpretation.
Тоді поприхо́дили всі царські́ мудреці́, та не могли прочитати писа́ння й об'явити царе́ві його ро́зв'язку.
Then was king Belshazzar greatly troubled, and his countenance was changed in him, and his nobles were confounded.
Тоді цар Валтаса́р сильно перестра́шився, а його ясність зміни́лася на ньому, і його вельмо́жі були безра́дні.
the queen, by reason of the words of the king And his nobles, came into the banquet-house. the queen spoke And said, O king, live for ever!let not thy thoughts trouble thee, neither let thy countenance be changed.
На слова́ царя та вельмо́ж його ввійшла до дому прийняття́ цариця. Цариця заговорила та й сказала: „Ца́рю, живи навіки! Нехай не страша́ть тебе думки́ твої, а ясність твоя нехай не міня́ється!
There is a man in thy kingdom in whom is the spirit of the holy gods; and in the days of thy father, light and understanding and wisdom, like the wisdom of the gods was found in him; and the king Nebuchadnezzar thy father, [even] the king thy father, made him master of the scribes, magicians, Chaldeans, [and] astrologers;
Є в твоєму царстві муж, що в ньому дух святих богі́в, а за днів твого батька в ньому знахо́дилась ясність і розум та мудрість, рівна мудрості богі́в. І цар Навуходоно́сор, твій батько, настановив його начальником чарівникі́в, заклиначі́в, халде́їв, віщуні́в, ба́тько твій цар,
forasmuch as an excellent spirit, and knowledge, and understanding, interpreting of dreams, and shewing of hard sentences, and solving of problems, were found in the same Daniel, whom the king named Belteshazzar. Now let Daniel be called, and he will shew the interpretation.
бо в ньо́му, в Даниїлові, якому цар дав ім'я́ Валтаса́р, знахо́дився надмірний дух, і знання́ та розум розв'я́зувати сни, і висло́влювати за́гадки та розплу́тувати вузли́. Нехай буде покликаний тепер Даниїл, і нехай він оголосить ро́зв'язку!“
Daniel Interprets the Handwriting
Then was Daniel brought in before the king. The king spoke and said unto Daniel, Art thou that Daniel, of the children of the captivity of Judah, whom the king my father brought out of Judah?

Того ча́су Даниїл був приве́дений перед царя. Цар заговорив та й сказав до Даниїла: „Чи ти той Даниїл, що з Юдиних синів вигна́ння, яких вивів цар, мій ба́тько, з Юдеї?
And I have heard of thee, that the spirit of the gods is in thee, and [that] light and understanding and excellent wisdom is found in thee.
І чув я про тебе, що в тобі дух богі́в, і що в тобі знахо́диться ясність, і розум та надмі́рна мудрість.
And now the wise men, the magicians, have been brought in before me, that they should read this writing, and make known unto me the interpretation thereof; but they could not shew the interpretation of the thing.
А тепер були́ приве́дені перед мене мудреці́, заклиначі́, щоб прочитали оце писа́ння, і розповіли́ мені його ро́зв'язку, та не могли вони ви́словити ро́зв'язки цієї речі.
But I have heard of thee, that thou canst give interpretations, and solve problems. Now if thou canst read the writing, and make known to me the interpretation thereof, thou shalt be clothed with purple, and have a chain of gold about thy neck, and shalt be the third ruler in the kingdom.
А я чув про тебе, що ти можеш розв'я́зувати недовідо́ме, і розплу́тувати вузли́. Тож тепер, якщо можеш прочитати це писа́ння, і розповісти́ мені його ро́зв'язку, то зодя́гнеш пурпу́ру, а золотий ланцю́г — на твою шию, і ти бу́деш панувати третім у царстві“.
Then Daniel answered and said before the king, Let thy gifts be to thyself, and give thy rewards to another; yet will I read the writing to the king, and make known to him the interpretation.
Тоді Даниїл відповів та й сказав перед царем: „Твої да́ри нехай бу́дуть тобі, а дару́нки свої давай іншим. Це писа́ння я прочитаю цареві, і розповім тобі його ро́зв'язку.
O thou king, the Most High God gave Nebuchadnezzar thy father the kingdom, and greatness, and glory, and majesty;
Ти, ца́рю, — Всевишній Бог дав твоєму ба́тькові Навуходоносорові царство, і ве́лич, і славу та пишноту́.
and for the greatness that he gave him, all peoples, nations, and languages, trembled and feared before him: whom he would he slew, and whom he would he kept alive; and whom he would he exalted, and whom he would he humbled.
А через ве́лич, яку Він дав був йому, всі наро́ди, племе́на та язи́ки тремті́ли та лякалися перед ним, бо кого він хотів — забивав, а кого хотів — лишав при житті, і кого хотів — підіймав, а кого хотів — пони́жував.
But when his heart was lifted up, and his spirit hardened unto presumption, he was deposed from the throne of his kingdom, and they took his glory from him;
А коли загорди́лося його серце, а дух його ще більше запишні́в, він був ски́нений з тро́ну свого царства, і його слава була взя́та від нього.
and he was driven from the sons of men, and his heart was made like the beasts, and his dwelling was with the wild asses; they fed him with grass like oxen, and his body was bathed with the dew of heaven; till he knew that the Most High God ruleth over the kingdom of men, and that he appointeth over it whomsoever he will.
І він був ви́гнаний з-поміж лю́дських синів, і серце його було зрі́вняне зо звіри́ним, а пробува́ння його було з дикими ослами. Годували його травою, як волів, а небесною росою зро́шувалося його тіло, аж поки він не пізнав, що в людсько́му царстві панує Всевишній Бог, і Він ставить над ним того, кого хоче.
And thou, Belshazzar, his son, hast not humbled thy heart, although thou knewest all this;
А ти, сину його́ Валтаса́ре, не смири́в свого серця, хоч усе це знав.
but hast lifted up thyself against the Lord of the heavens; and they have brought the vessels of his house before thee, and thou and thy nobles, thy wives and thy concubines, have drunk wine in them; and thou hast praised the gods of silver and gold, of brass, iron, wood, and stone, which see not, nor hear, nor know; and the God in whose hand thy breath is, and whose are all thy ways, hast thou not glorified:
І ти піднісся понад Небесного Господа, і по́суд храму Його прине́сли перед тебе, а ти та вельмо́жі твої, жінки́ твої та нало́жниці твої пили́ з них вино, і ти хвалив богів срібних та золотих, мідяни́х, залізних, дерев'яних та камі́нних, що не бачать, і не чують та не знають, а Бога, що в руці Його душа твоя й що Його всі дороги твої, ти не прославля́в.
then from before him was sent the part of the hand, and this writing hath been written.
Того ча́су від Нього по́сланий за́рис руки, і написане оце писа́ння.
And this is the writing that is written: MENE, MENE, TEKEL, UPHARSIN.
А оце писа́ння, що написане: Мене́, мене́, теке́л упарсі́н.
This is the interpretation of the thing: MENE, God hath numbered thy kingdom, and finished it;
Ось розв'язка цієї речі: „Мене́“ — порахував Бог царство твоє, і покінчи́в його.
TEKEL, Thou art weighed in the balances, and art found wanting;
„Теке́л“ — ти зва́жений на вазі́, і знайдений леге́ньким.
PERES, Thy kingdom is divided, and given to the Medes and Persians.
„Пере́с“ — поді́лене царство твоє, і ві́ддане мі́дянам та пе́рсам“.
Then Belshazzar commanded, and they clothed Daniel with purple, and [put] a chain of gold about his neck, and made proclamation concerning him that he should be the third ruler in the kingdom.
Тоді наказав Валтаса́р, і надягли́ на Даниїла пурпу́ру, а золотого ланцюга́ — на шию його, і розголоси́ли про нього, що він бу́де третім пануючим у царстві.
