Israel will Reap the Whirlwind

Set the trumpet to thy mouth. [He cometh] as an eagle against the house of Jehovah, because they have transgressed my covenant, and rebelled against my law.

Рога до уст своїх, та й засурми́: на дім Божий спадає неначе орел, бо переступили вони заповіта Мого́, і на Зако́на Мого повстали.

2

They shall cry unto me, My God, we know thee; [we], Israel.

2

До Мене взивають вони: „Мій Боже, познали Тебе ми, Ізраїлю!“

3

Israel hath cast off good: the enemy shall pursue him.

3

Покинув Ізраїль добро́, — ворог його пожене́!

4

They have set up kings, but not by me; they have made princes, and I knew it not; of their silver and their gold have they made them idols, that they may be cut off.

Вони ставлять царя, але́ не від Мене, вони князя ставлять, але Я не знаю! Вони з срі́бла свого та із золо́та свого божків наробили собі, щоб загинути, —

5

Thy calf, O Samaria, hath cast [thee] off; mine anger is kindled against them: how long will they be incapable of purity?

відкинув теля твоє Я, Самаріє! Мій гнів запали́вся на них, — аж доки не можуть вони від провини очи́ститись?

For from Israel is this also: -- a workman made it, and it is no God: for the calf of Samaria shall be [broken in] pieces.

Бо й воно від Ізраїля. Зробив його ма́йстер, і воно — то не Бог, бо теля самарійське на кава́лки обе́рнеться.

7

For they have sown the wind, and they shall reap the whirlwind: it hath no stalk; should it sprout, it would yield no meal; if so be it yield, strangers shall swallow it up.

А що вітер вони засівають, то бурю пожнуть, — в них не буде й коло́сся, а зе́рно не видасть муки́, коли ж видасть, чужі поковта́ють її.

8

Israel is swallowed up: now are they become among the nations as a vessel wherein is no pleasure.

Ізраїль проко́втнений, — став між наро́дами він як та річ, що до неї немає зами́лування.

9

For they are gone up [to] Assyria [as] a wild ass alone by himself: Ephraim hath hired lovers.

Бо вони відійшли до Ашшу́ру, як дикий осел, що самі́тний собі, а Єфрем за любов дає да́ри любовні.

10

Although they hire among the nations, now will I gather them, and they shall begin to be straitened under the burden of the king of princes.

10

І хоч вони здобува́ють прихи́льників серед пога́нів, Я їх позбираю тепер, і незаба́ром вони перестануть пома́зувати царя, і князі́в.

11

Because Ephraim hath multiplied altars to sin, altars shall be unto him to sin.

11

Бо же́ртівників був намно́жив Єфрем, щоб грішити, — на провину йому стали ці же́ртівники!

12

I have prescribed unto him the manifold things of my law: they are counted [as] a strange thing.

Я можу йому написати Зако́н Свій хоч тисячу разі́в, — як чуже порахо́ване буде!

13

They sacrifice flesh [for] the sacrifices of mine offerings, and eat it; Jehovah hath no delight in them. Now will he remember their iniquity, and visit their sins: they shall return to Egypt.

Вони ж жертви кохають, — ріжуть м'ясо й їдять, та Господь не вподо́бує їх. Тепер Він згадає про їхню прови́ну та їхні гріхи́ покарає, — вони до Єгипту пове́рнуться!

14

For Israel hath forgotten his Maker, and buildeth temples; and Judah hath multiplied fenced cities: but I will send a fire upon his cities, and it shall devour the palaces thereof.

Ізраїль забув про свого Творця та й будує пала́ти, а Юда намно́жив тверди́нні міста́, та пошлю́ Я огонь на його ці міста́, — і пожере́ він пала́ти його́!
