Darby Bible Translation

New King James Version

  • A Ruler from Bethlehem

    Now gather thyself in troops, O daughter of troops; he hath laid siege against us: they shall smite the judge of Israel with a rod upon the cheek.
  • The Messiah Will Be Born at Bethlehem

    Now gather yourself in troops,
    O daughter of troops;
    He has laid siege against us;
    They will strike the judge of Israel with a rod on the cheek.
  • (And thou, Bethlehem Ephratah, little to be among the thousands of Judah, out of thee shall he come forth unto me [who is] to be Ruler in Israel: whose goings forth are from of old, from the days of eternity.)
  • The Coming Messiah

    “But you, Bethlehem Ephrathah,
    Though you are little among the thousands of Judah,
    Yet out of you shall come forth to Me
    The One to be Ruler in Israel,
    Whose goings forth are from of old,
    From [a]everlasting.”
  • Therefore will he give them up, until the time when she which travaileth shall have brought forth: and the residue of his brethren shall return unto the children of Israel.
  • Therefore He shall give them up,
    Until the time that she who is in labor has given birth;
    Then the remnant of His brethren
    Shall return to the children of Israel.
  • And he shall stand and feed [his flock] in the strength of Jehovah, in the majesty of the name of Jehovah his God. And they shall abide; for now shall he be great even unto the ends of the earth.
  • And He shall stand and feed[b] His flock
    In the strength of the Lord,
    In the majesty of the name of the Lord His God;
    And they shall abide,
    For now He shall be great
    To the ends of the earth;
  • And this [man] shall be Peace. When the Assyrian shall come into our land, and when he shall tread in our palaces, then shall we raise against him seven shepherds, and eight princes of men.
  • And this One shall be peace.
    Judgment on Israel’s Enemies

    When the Assyrian comes into our land,
    And when he treads in our palaces,
    Then we will raise against him
    Seven shepherds and eight princely men.
  • And they shall waste the land of Asshur with the sword, and the land of Nimrod in the entrances thereof; and he shall deliver [us] from the Assyrian, when he cometh into our land, and when he treadeth within our borders.
  • They shall [c]waste with the sword the land of Assyria,
    And the land of Nimrod at its entrances;
    Thus He shall deliver us from the Assyrian,
    When he comes into our land
    And when he treads within our borders.
  • The Remnant of Jacob

    And the remnant of Jacob shall be in the midst of many peoples as dew from Jehovah, as showers upon the grass, that tarrieth not for man, neither waiteth for the sons of men.
  • Then the remnant of Jacob
    Shall be in the midst of many peoples,
    Like dew from the Lord,
    Like showers on the grass,
    That [d]tarry for no man
    Nor [e]wait for the sons of men.
  • And the remnant of Jacob shall be among the nations, in the midst of many peoples, as a lion among the beasts of the forest, as a young lion among the flocks of sheep: who, if he go through, treadeth down, and teareth in pieces, and there is none to deliver.
  • And the remnant of Jacob
    Shall be among the Gentiles,
    In the midst of many peoples,
    Like a lion among the beasts of the forest,
    Like a young lion among flocks of sheep,
    Who, if he passes through,
    Both treads down and tears in pieces,
    And none can deliver.
  • Thy hand shall be lifted up upon thine adversaries, and all thine enemies shall be cut off.
  • Your hand shall be lifted against your adversaries,
    And all your enemies shall be [f]cut off.
  • And it shall come to pass in that day, saith Jehovah, that I will cut off thy horses out of the midst of thee, and I will destroy thy chariots.
  • “And it shall be in that day,” says the Lord,
    “That I will cut[g] off your horses from your midst
    And destroy your chariots.
  • And I will cut off the cities of thy land, and overthrow all thy strongholds.
  • I will cut off the cities of your land
    And throw down all your strongholds.
  • And I will cut off sorceries out of thy hand; and thou shalt have no soothsayers.
  • I will cut off sorceries from your hand,
    And you shall have no soothsayers.
  • Thy graven images also will I cut off, and thy statues out of the midst of thee; and thou shalt no more bow down to the work of thy hands.
  • Your carved images I will also cut off,
    And your sacred pillars from your midst;
    You shall no more worship the work of your hands;
  • And I will pluck up thine Asherahs out of the midst of thee, and I will destroy thy cities.
  • I will pluck your [h]wooden images from your midst;
    Thus I will destroy your cities.
  • And I will execute vengeance in anger and in fury upon the nations, such as they have not heard of.
  • And I will execute vengeance in anger and fury
    On the nations that have not [i]heard.”
