The Case against Israel

Hear ye now what Jehovah saith: Arise, contend before the mountains, and let the hills hear thy voice.

Слушайте, что говорит Господь: Встань, и пусть горы судят тебя, пусть холмы услышат твой рассказ.

Hear, ye mountains, Jehovah's controversy, and ye, unchanging foundations of the earth; for Jehovah hath a controversy with his people, and he will plead with Israel.

Слушайте, горы, обвинение Господа, слушайте и вы, вечные основы земли. Ибо Господь обвиняет Свой народ. Он выдвигает обвинение против Израиля.

O my people, what have I done unto thee? and wherein have I wearied thee? testify against me.

Господь говорит: "Народ Мой, что сделал Я для тебя? Чем Я отяготил тебя? Ответь Мне.

4

For I brought thee up out of the land of Egypt, and redeemed thee out of the house of bondage; and I sent before thee Moses, Aaron, and Miriam.

Я вывел тебя из Египта и освободил тебя из рабства. Я послал Моисея, чтобы возглавить тебя, а потом Аарона и Мириам.

My people, remember now what Balak king of Moab consulted, and what Balaam the son of Beor answered him, from Shittim unto Gilgal, that ye may know the righteousness of Jehovah.

Народ Мой, чтобы познать праведные дела Господа, вспомни, что замышлял Валак, царь моавитян, и что ответил ему Валаам, сын Веора. Вспомни своё путешествие из Ситтима в Галгал. Помни всё это, и ты познаешь праведность Господа".

Wherewith shall I come before Jehovah, bow myself before the high God? Shall I come before him with burnt-offerings, with calves of a year old?

С чем приду я к Господу и склонюсь перед Всевышним? Предстать ли мне пред Ним с жертвоприношениями, с однолетними тельцами?

Will Jehovah take pleasure in thousands of rams, in ten thousands of rivers of oil? Shall I give my firstborn for my transgression, the fruit of my body for the sin of my soul?

Будет ли доволен Господь, если принести Ему тысячу баранов или десять тысяч рек масла? Или принести мне своего первенца за искупление моих преступлений, плод чрева моего за грех моей души?

He hath shewn thee, O man, what is good: and what doth Jehovah require of thee, but to do justly, and to love goodness, and to walk humbly with thy God?

Человек, Господь сказал тебе, что есть добро. Вот что Господь хочет от тебя: действовать справедливо, любить милосердие и жить смиренно перед Богом твоим.

The Punishment of Israel

Jehovah's voice crieth unto the city, and wisdom looketh on thy name. Hear ye the rod, and who hath appointed it.

Слушайте! Господь взывает к городу — мудрые чтят имя Господа. Страшитесь кнута и Того, Кто наказывает им.

Are there yet treasures of wickedness in the house of the wicked, and the scant measure [which is] abominable?

А нечестивые люди прячут ли ещё награбленные сокровища? Обманывают ли нечестивые людей, отвешивая в корзинах уменьшенной меры? Да, всё это ещё происходит!

Shall I be pure with the unjust balances, and with the bag of deceitful weights?

Оправдать ли Мне людей, у которых в ходу неправильные весы и гири, чтобы обманывать людей?

For her rich men are full of violence, and her inhabitants speak lies, and their tongue is deceitful in their mouth.

Богачи в этом городе жестокие, народ лживый, и язык их обманчив.

Therefore also will I make [thee] sick in smiting thee; I will make [thee] desolate because of thy sins.

Поэтому и начал Я наказывать тебя. Я погублю тебя за твои грехи.

Thou shalt eat, and not be satisfied, and thine emptiness [shall remain] in the midst of thee; and thou shalt take away, and not save; and what thou savest will I give up to the sword.

Ты будешь есть, но не насытишься, в желудке у тебя будет пусто. Будешь спасаться, но погибнешь от меча.

15

Thou shalt sow, but thou shalt not reap; thou shalt tread the olives, but thou shalt not anoint thee with oil; and new wine, but shalt not drink wine.

Вы посеете, но не пожнёте, будете давить оливки, но не получите масла, станете давить виноград, но не выпьете вина.

16

For the statutes of Omri are kept, and all the works of the house of Ahab; and ye walk in their counsels: that I should make thee a desolation, and the inhabitants thereof a hissing; and ye shall bear the reproach of my people.

Вы сохранили обычаи Амврия, все привычки дома Ахавова и их традиции. И посему, Я предам вас разрушению, а народ ваш осмеянию, и понесёте вы презрение других народов. Люди будут свистеть в недоумении, когда увидят ваши разрушенные города. Мой поруганный народ будет уведён, как пленник.
