The Doomed Flock

Open thy doors, O Lebanon, that the fire may devour thy cedars.

Распахни свои двери, Ливан,
пусть огонь пожрет твои кедры!

Howl, cypress, for the cedar is fallen; because the noble ones are spoiled. Howl, ye oaks of Bashan; for the strong forest is come down.

Плачь, кипарис, потому что рухнул кедр;
погибли величественные деревья.
Плачьте, дубы Башана,50 —
вырублен непроходимый лес.

A voice of howling of the shepherds; for their glory is spoiled: a voice of roaring of young lions; for the pride of Jordan is spoiled.

Слышен плач пастухов:
их богатые выгоны разорены.
Слышен рев молодых львов:
вырублены их чащи у реки Иордана.

Thus saith Jehovah my God: Feed the flock of slaughter,

Так говорит Господь, мой Бог:
— Паси овец,51 обреченных на убой.

whose possessors slay them without being held guilty; and they that sell them say, Blessed be Jehovah! for I am become rich; and their own shepherds pity them not.

Покупатели безнаказанно убивают их; те, кто продал их, говорят: «Слава Господу, я разбогател!» — и пастухи о них не жалеют.

For I will no more pity the inhabitants of the land, saith Jehovah, and behold, I will deliver men, every one into his neighbour's hand, and into the hand of his king; and they shall smite the land, and I will not deliver out of their hand.

Ведь Я больше не стану жалеть обитателей страны, — возвещает Господь. — Я отдам всякого в руки ближнего его и в руки его царя; они будут опустошать страну, а Я не стану спасать никого от их рук.

So I fed the flock of slaughter, truly the poor of the flock. And I took unto me two staves; the one I called Beauty, and the other I called Bands; and I fed the flock.

Я52 пас беднейших овец отары, обреченных на убой. Я взял два посоха и назвал один «Благоволением», а другой «Единством», и пас отару.

And I destroyed three shepherds in one month; and my soul was vexed with them, and their soul also loathed me.

За месяц я прогнал троих пастухов. Отара возненавидела меня, а я устал от них

And I said, I will not feed you: that which dieth, let it die; and that which perisheth let it perish; and let them which are left eat every one the flesh of another.

и сказал: «Я не буду больше вашим пастухом. Пусть умирающий умрет, а гибнущий погибнет. Пусть оставшиеся поедают друг друга».

Thirty Pieces of Silver

And I took my staff, Beauty, and cut it asunder, that I might break my covenant which I had made with all the peoples.

Я взял свой посох, называвшийся «Благоволением», и сломал его, расторгнув завет, который я заключил со всеми народами.

And it was broken in that day; and so the poor of the flock that gave heed to me knew that it was the word of Jehovah.

Он был расторгнут в тот день, и беднейшие из отары, которые наблюдали за мной, узнали, что таково было слово Господне.

And I said unto them, If ye think good, give [me] my hire; and if not, forbear. And they weighed for my hire thirty silver-pieces.

Я сказал им:
— Если хотите, дайте мне мою плату, а нет, так и не платите.
И они отвесили мне тридцать шекелей серебра.

And Jehovah said unto me, Cast it unto the potter: a goodly price that I was prized at by them. And I took the thirty silver-pieces, and cast them to the potter in the house of Jehovah.

Господь сказал мне:
— Брось их горшечнику — высоко же они Меня оценили!
Я взял тридцать шекелей серебра и бросил их в доме Господнем для горшечника.53

And I cut asunder mine other staff, Bands, to break the brotherhood between Judah and Israel.

Затем я сломал второй посох, называвшийся «Единством», разорвав узы братства между Иудой и Израилем.

And Jehovah said unto me, Take unto thee yet the instruments of a foolish shepherd.

15

Господь сказал мне:
— Возьми снова орудия глупого пастуха.

16

For behold, I will raise up a shepherd in the land, who shall not visit those that are about to perish, neither shall seek that which is strayed away, nor heal that which is wounded, nor feed that which is sound; but he will eat the flesh of the fat, and tear their hoofs in pieces.

Я дам этой стране пастуха, который не будет беспокоиться о пропавших, искать молодых, лечить увечных и кормить здоровых, а будет есть мясо отборных овец, отрывая даже копыта.

17

Woe to the worthless shepherd that leaveth the flock! The sword shall be upon his arm, and upon his right eye; his arm shall be clean dried up, and his right eye utterly darkened.

Горе скверному пастуху,
оставляющему отару!
Пусть меч поразит его руку и правый глаз!
Пусть рука его совсем иссохнет,
и правый глаз совершенно ослепнет!
