Darby Bible Translation

New Living Translation

  • The Man with a Measure

And I lifted up mine eyes, and saw, and behold a man with a measuring line in his hand.
  • Future Prosperity of Jerusalem

aWhen I looked again, I saw a man with a measuring line in his hand.
  • And I said, Whither goest thou? And he said unto me, To measure Jerusalem, to see what is the breadth thereof, and what is the length thereof.
  • “Where are you going?” I asked.
He replied, “I am going to measure Jerusalem, to see how wide and how long it is.”
  • And behold, the angel that talked with me went forth; and another angel went forth to meet him,
  • Then the angel who was with me went to meet a second angel who was coming toward him.
  • and said unto him, Run, speak to this young man, saying, Jerusalem shall be inhabited as towns without walls for the multitude of men and cattle therein;
  • The other angel said, “Hurry, and say to that young man, ‘Jerusalem will someday be so full of people and livestock that there won’t be room enough for everyone! Many will live outside the city walls.
  • and I, saith Jehovah, I will be unto her a wall of fire round about, and will be the glory in the midst of her.
  • Then I, myself, will be a protective wall of fire around Jerusalem, says the LORD. And I will be the glory inside the city!’”
  • The Redemption of Zion

Ho, ho! flee from the land of the north, saith Jehovah; for I have scattered you abroad as the four winds of the heavens, saith Jehovah.

  • The Exiles Are Called Home

The LORD says, “Come away! Flee from Babylon in the land of the north, for I have scattered you to the four winds.
  • Ho! escape, Zion, that dwellest with the daughter of Babylon.
  • Come away, people of Zion, you who are exiled in Babylon!”
  • For thus saith Jehovah of hosts: After the glory, hath he sent me unto the nations that made you a spoil; for he that toucheth you toucheth the apple of his eye.
  • After a period of glory, the LORD of Heaven’s Armies sent meb against the nations who plundered you. For he said, “Anyone who harms you harms my most precious possession.c
  • For behold, I will shake my hand upon them, and they shall become a spoil to those that served them: and ye shall know that Jehovah of hosts hath sent me.
  • I will raise my fist to crush them, and their own slaves will plunder them.” Then you will know that the LORD of Heaven’s Armies has sent me.
  • Sing aloud and rejoice, daughter of Zion; for behold, I come, and I will dwell in the midst of thee, saith Jehovah.
  • The LORD says, “Shout and rejoice, O beautiful Jerusalem,d for I am coming to live among you.
  • And many nations shall join themselves to Jehovah in that day, and shall be unto me for a people; and I will dwell in the midst of thee, and thou shalt know that Jehovah of hosts hath sent me unto thee.
  • Many nations will join themselves to the LORD on that day, and they, too, will be my people. I will live among you, and you will know that the LORD of Heaven’s Armies sent me to you.
  • And Jehovah shall inherit Judah [as] his portion in the holy land, and shall yet choose Jerusalem.
  • The land of Judah will be the LORD’s special possession in the holy land, and he will once again choose Jerusalem to be his own city.
  • Let all flesh be silent before Jehovah; for he is risen up out of his holy habitation.
  • Be silent before the LORD, all humanity, for he is springing into action from his holy dwelling.”
