A Call to Justice and Mercy

And it came to pass in the fourth year of king Darius, that the word of Jehovah came unto Zechariah on the fourth [day] of the ninth month, [even] in Chislev,

На четвёртый год правления персидского царя Дария было Слово Господа к Захарии. Шёл четвёртый день девятого месяца.

when Bethel had sent Sherezer and Regem-melech, and his men, to supplicate Jehovah,

[and] to speak unto the priests that were in the house of Jehovah of hosts, and to the prophets, saying, Should I weep in the fifth month, separating myself, as I have done now so many years?

Они пошли к пророкам и священникам в храме Всемогущего Господа и спросили их: "В течение многих лет мы выражали печаль по поводу разрушения храма. В пятый месяц каждого года у нас бывает особое время: мы плачем и постимся. Следует ли нам продолжать это?"

And the word of Jehovah of hosts came unto me, saying,

И было ко мне слово от Всемогущего Господа:

Speak unto all the people of the land, and to the priests, saying, When ye fasted and mourned in the fifth and in the seventh [month], even those seventy years, did ye really fast unto me, [even] unto me?

"Скажи священникам и всем другим людям в этой стране: "Вы постились и выражали свою печаль в пятый месяц, и в седьмой месяц. Но для Меня ли вы постились? Нет.

6

And when ye ate, and when ye drank, was it not you that were eating and drinking?

А когда вы пили и ели, было ли это для Меня? Нет, вы делали это для своего блага.

Are not these the words that Jehovah cried by the former prophets, when Jerusalem was inhabited and at peace, and her cities round about her, when the south and the lowland were inhabited?

Бог сказал то же самое через прежних пророков давным давно. Он сказал это в то время, когда Иерусалим был ещё процветающим населённым городом. Бог сказал это, когда люди ещё жили в городах вокруг Иерусалима, в Негеве и у западного подножия. ""

And the word of Jehovah came unto Zechariah, saying,

Вот слово Господа к Захарии,

Thus speaketh Jehovah of hosts, saying, Execute true judgment, and shew loving-kindness and mercies one to another,

Всемогущий Господь сказал: "Вы должны поступать правильно и справедливо. Вы должны быть добры и милостивы друг к другу.

10

and oppress not the widow and the fatherless, the stranger and the afflicted; and let none of you imagine evil against his brother in your heart.

Не обижайте вдов и сирот, пришельцев и бедных людей. Не замышляйте зла друг против друга!"

11

But they refused to hearken, and turned a rebellious shoulder, and made their ears heavy, that they should not hear.

Но они не желали внимать и не хотели делать того, что Он хотел. Они заткнули уши и не слышали, что говорил Бог.

And they made their heart [as] an adamant, that they should not hear the law, and the words that Jehovah of hosts sent by his Spirit by the hand of the former prophets: therefore was there great wrath from Jehovah of hosts.

Они были упрямы и не подчинились закону. Всемогущий Господь, через Дух Свой, послал слово к народу Своему через пророков, но народ их не послушал. И тогда разгневался Всемогущий Господь.

And it came to pass, like as he called, and they would not hear, so they called, and I would not hear, saith Jehovah of hosts;

И сказал Всемогущий Господь: "Я взывал к ним, но не отозвались они. Теперь же, если они призовут Меня, Я не отзовусь.

14

and I scattered them with a whirlwind among all the nations whom they knew not, and the land was desolate after them, so that no one passed through nor returned; and they laid the pleasant land desolate.

Я пошлю против них, как бурю, другие народы, и страна их будет разрушена после того, как народы эти пройдут по ней. Я разбросал их среди других народов, где они были чужеземцами, а их некогда прекрасная страна опустела; они сделали её пустынной".
