A Warning to Priests

And now, ye priests, this commandment is for you.

А тепер, священики, для вас ця заповідь!

If ye do not hear, and if ye do not lay [it] to heart, to give glory unto my name, saith Jehovah of hosts, I will even send the curse among you, and I will curse your blessings: yea, I have already cursed them, because ye do not lay [it] to heart.

Якщо не послухаєте і якщо не прикладете до вашого серця віддати славу Моєму Імені, — говорить Господь Вседержитель, — то Я пошлю на вас прокляття і прокляну ваше благословення. Я прокляну його і розкидаю ваше благословення, і не буде у вас, тому що ви не прикладаєте до вашого серця.

Behold, I will rebuke your seed, and spread dung upon your faces, the dung of your feasts; and they shall take you away with it.

Ось Я вам відділяю плече [1] і розсію вміст шлунка у ваші обличчя, вміст шлунка ваших свят, і візьму вас разом.

And ye shall know that I have sent this commandment unto you, that my covenant might be with Levi, saith Jehovah of hosts.

І пізнаєте, що Я послав до вас цю заповідь, щоб Моя заповідь була до левітів, — говорить Господь Вседержитель.

My covenant with him was of life and peace, and I gave them to him that he might fear; and he feared me, and trembled before my name.

Мій завіт життя і миру був з ним, і Я дав йому в страху Мене боятися, і йому тремтіти від обличчя Мого Імені.

The law of truth was in his mouth, and unrighteousness was not found in his lips: he walked with me in peace and uprightness, and he turned many from iniquity.

Закон правди був у його імені, і не знайдено неправедності на його губах. У мирі він випрямився, пішов зі Мною і багатьох відвернув від неправедності.

For the priest's lips should keep knowledge, and at his mouth they seek the law; for he is the messenger of Jehovah of hosts.

Адже губи священика пильнують пізнання, а з його уст домагаються закону, тому що він є ангелом [2] Господа Вседержителя.

But ye are departed out of the way; ye have caused many to stumble at the law; ye have corrupted the covenant of Levi, saith Jehovah of hosts.

Ви ж звернули з дороги і багатьох зробили немічними в законі, знищили завіт Левія, — говорить Господь Вседержитель.

And I also have made you contemptible and base before all the people, because ye have not kept my ways, but have respect of persons in [administering] the law.

І Я дав вас зневаженими і викиненими до всіх народів, тому що ви не зберегли Моїх доріг, але в законі брали до уваги особу.

Judah's Unfaithfulness

Have we not all one father? Hath not one God created us? Why do we deal unfaithfully every man against his brother, by profaning the covenant of our fathers?

Хіба не один Бог вас створив? Чи не один батько у вас усіх? Як то, що ви залишили кожний свого брата, щоб опоганити завіт ваших батьків?

Judah hath dealt unfaithfully, and an abomination is committed in Israel and in Jerusalem; for Judah hath profaned the sanctuary of Jehovah which he loved, and hath married the daughter of a strange god.

Залишено Юду, і гидота сталася в Ізраїлі та в Єрусалимі, тому що Юда опоганив Господні святощі, які Він полюбив, і пішов за чужими богами.

12

Jehovah will cut off from the tents of Jacob the man that doeth this, him that calleth and him that answereth; and him that offereth an oblation unto Jehovah of hosts.

Господь вигубить людину, яка це чинить, аж доки вона не буде впокорена в поселеннях Якова, — від тих, що приносять жертву Господу Вседержителеві.

13

And further ye do this: ye cover the altar of Jehovah with tears, with weeping, and with sighing, insomuch that he regardeth not the oblation any more, nor receiveth [it] with satisfaction at your hand.

І це ви робили, — те, що Я зненавидів! Ви слізьми покривали Господній жертовник, плачем і стогнанням від страждань. Чи годиться поглянути на жертву, чи прийняти як прийнятне з ваших рук?

14

Yet ye say, Wherefore? Because Jehovah hath been a witness between thee and the wife of thy youth, against whom thou hast dealt unfaithfully: yet is she thy companion, and the wife of thy covenant.

А ви сказали: Задля чого? Адже Господь засвідчив між тобою і між жінкою твоєї молодості, яку ти покинув, а вона — твоя спільниця і жінка твого завіту.

15

And did not one make [them]? and the remnant of the Spirit was his. And wherefore the one? He sought a seed of God. Take heed then to your spirit, and let none deal unfaithfully against the wife of his youth,

І він не вчинив інакше, і залишок Його духа. А ви сказали: Чого іншого, але хіба насіння Бог шукає? Тож бережіться, ви, у вашому дусі, і жінку твоєї молодості ти не залишиш!

16

(for I hate putting away, saith Jehovah the God of Israel;) and he covereth with violence his garment, saith Jehovah of hosts: take heed then to your spirit, that ye deal not unfaithfully.

Але якщо зненавидиш, відішлеш, — говорить Господь, Бог Ізраїля, — і безбожність покриє твої задуми, — говорить Господь Вседержитель. І зберігатиметеся у вашому дусі, і не залишите.

17

Ye have wearied Jehovah with your words, and ye say, Wherein have we wearied [him]? In that ye say, Every one that doeth evil is good in the sight of Jehovah, and he delighteth in them; or, Where is the God of judgment?

Ви, що гнівили Бога вашими словами і казали: Чим ми розгнівили? Коли ви говорили: Кожний, хто чинить зло, це добре перед Господом, і в цьому Він має вподобання. Тож де є Бог праведності?
