Darby Bible Translation

New King James Version

  • The Murmuring of Miriam and Aaron

    And Miriam and Aaron spoke against Moses because of the Ethiopian woman whom he had taken; for he had taken a Cushite as wife.
  • Dissension of Aaron and Miriam

    Then Miriam and Aaron [a]spoke against Moses because of the [b]Ethiopian woman whom he had married; for he had married an Ethiopian woman.
  • And they said, Has Jehovah indeed spoken only to Moses? has he not spoken also to us? And Jehovah heard it.
  • So they said, “Has the Lord indeed spoken only through Moses? Has He not spoken through us also?” And the Lord heard it.
  • But the man Moses was very meek, above all men that were upon the face of the earth.
  • (Now the man Moses was very humble, more than all men who were on the face of the earth.)
  • Then Jehovah spoke suddenly to Moses, and to Aaron, and to Miriam, Come out ye three unto the tent of meeting. And they went out, they three.
  • Suddenly the Lord said to Moses, Aaron, and Miriam, “Come out, you three, to the tabernacle of meeting!” So the three came out.
  • And Jehovah came down in the pillar of the cloud, and stood at the entrance of the tent, and called Aaron and Miriam; and they both came forth.
  • Then the Lord came down in the pillar of cloud and stood in the door of the tabernacle, and called Aaron and Miriam. And they both went forward.
  • And he said, Hear now my words: If there be a prophet among you, I Jehovah will make myself known to him in a vision, I will speak to him in a dream.
  • Then He said,
    “Hear now My words:
    If there is a prophet among you,
    I, the Lord, make Myself known to him in a vision;
    I speak to him in a dream.
  • Not so my servant Moses: he is faithful in all my house.
  • Not so with My servant Moses;
    He is faithful in all My house.
  • Mouth to mouth do I speak to him openly, and not in riddles; and the form of Jehovah doth he behold. Why then were ye not afraid to speak against my servant, against Moses?
  • I speak with him face to face,
    Even plainly,[c] and not in [d]dark sayings;
    And he sees the form of the Lord.
    Why then were you not afraid
    To speak against My servant Moses?”
  • And the anger of Jehovah was kindled against them, and he went away;
  • So the anger of the Lord was aroused against them, and He departed.
  • and the cloud departed from off the tent. And behold, Miriam was leprous as snow; and Aaron turned toward Miriam, and behold, she was leprous.
  • And when the cloud departed from above the tabernacle, suddenly Miriam became leprous, as white as snow. Then Aaron turned toward Miriam, and there she was, a leper.
  • Then Aaron said to Moses, Alas, my lord, I beseech thee, lay not this sin upon us, wherein we have been foolish, and have sinned!
  • So Aaron said to Moses, “Oh, my lord! Please do not lay [e]this sin on us, in which we have done foolishly and in which we have sinned.
  • Let her not be as one stillborn, half of whose flesh is consumed when he comes out of his mother's womb.
  • Please do not let her be as one dead, whose flesh is half consumed when he comes out of his mother’s womb!”
  • And Moses cried to Jehovah, saying, O God, heal her, I beseech thee!
  • So Moses cried out to the Lord, saying, “Please heal her, O God, I pray!”
  • And Jehovah said to Moses, But had her father anyways spat in her face, should she not be shamed seven days? She shall be shut outside the camp seven days, and afterwards she shall be received in [again].
  • Then the Lord said to Moses, “If her father had but spit in her face, would she not be shamed seven days? Let her be shut[f] out of the camp seven days, and afterward she may be received again.
  • And Miriam was shut outside the camp seven days; and the people did not journey till Miriam was received in [again].
  • So Miriam was shut out of the camp seven days, and the people did not journey till Miriam was brought in again.
  • And afterwards the people journeyed from Hazeroth, and encamped in the wilderness of Paran.
  • And afterward the people moved from Hazeroth and camped in the Wilderness of Paran.
