Balaam's First Oracle
And Balaam said to Balak, Build me here seven altars, and prepare me here seven bullocks and seven rams.

Валаам сказал: "Постройте здесь семь алтарей и приготовьте для меня семь быков и семь баранов".
And Balak did as Balaam had said; and Balak and Balaam offered up a bullock and a ram on [each] altar.
Валак исполнил просьбу Валаама, и они закололи на каждом алтаре по барану и по быку.
And Balaam said to Balak, Stand by thy burnt-offering, and I will go; perhaps Jehovah will come to meet me; and whatever he shews me I will tell thee. And he went to a hill.
И сказал тогда Валаам Валаку: "Стой здесь, у этого алтаря, а я пойду в другое место. И если Господь явится мне, то скажет, что я должен говорить". Валаам ушёл на возвышенное место,
And God met Balaam; and [Balaam] said to him, I have disposed seven altars, and have offered up a bullock and a ram upon [each] altar.
и там ему явился Господь. "Я приготовил семь алтарей, — сказал Валаам, — и на каждом алтаре заколол в жертву по быку и по барану".
And Jehovah put a word in Balaam's mouth, and said, Return to Balak, and thus shalt thou speak.
Тогда Господь сказал Валааму, что ему говорить. "Возвратись к Валаку, — сказал Господь, — и скажи всё то, что Я вложил в твои уста".
And he returned to him, and behold, he was standing by his burnt-offering, he, and all the princes of Moab.
Валаам возвратился к Валаку, когда Валак же всё ещё стоял у алтаря, и вместе с ним стояли и все вожди Моава.
And he took up his parable, and said, Balak the king of Moab hath brought me from Aram, from the mountains of the east: Come, curse me Jacob, and come, denounce Israel!
Валаам сказал: "Валак, царь Моава, привёл меня сюда от восточных гор Арама, сказав: "Приди, прокляни для меня Иакова, приди, прокляни израильский народ!"
How shall I curse whom God hath not cursed? or how shall I denounce whom Jehovah doth not denounce?
Но Бог не против этого народа, потому и я тоже не могу проклясть его! Господь не пожелал, чтобы с этим народом случилось плохое, поэтому и я тоже не могу сделать этого.
For from the top of the rocks I see him, and from the hills I behold him: Lo, [it is] a people that shall dwell alone and shall not be reckoned among the nations.
Я вижу этот народ с вершины горы, смотрю на него с высоких холмов, этот народ живёт отдельно и не числится между другими народами.
Who can count the dust of Jacob, and the number of the fourth part of Israel? Let my soul die the death of the righteous, and let my end be like his!
Кто пересчитает народ Иакова? Их словно песчинок, и никто не сможет пересчитать даже четвёртой части израильского народа. Так дайте же мне умереть смертью праведника! Пусть моя кончина будет столь же счастливой, сколь счастлива их!"
And Balak said to Balaam, What hast thou done to me? I took thee to curse mine enemies, and behold, thou hast blessed them altogether.
И сказал Валак Валааму: "Что ты сделал со мной! Я привёл тебя сюда, чтобы ты проклял моих врагов, ты же их благословил!"
And he answered and said, Must I not take heed to speak that which Jehovah puts in my mouth?
Валаам ответил: "Я должен говорить то, что повелел мне говорить Господь!"
Balaam's Second Oracle
And Balak said to him, Come, I pray thee, with me to another place, from whence thou wilt see them; thou shalt see only the extremity of them and shalt not see them all, and curse me them from thence.
And Balak said to him, Come, I pray thee, with me to another place, from whence thou wilt see them; thou shalt see only the extremity of them and shalt not see them all, and curse me them from thence.
Тогда Валак ему сказал: "Пойдём на другое место, с которого ты увидишь этот народ, но не всех, а только часть его увидишь. Прокляни их оттуда!"
And he took him to the watchmen's field, to the top of Pisgah, and built seven altars, and offered up a bullock and a ram on [each] altar.
Валак привёл Валаама на холмы стражей, на вершину горы Фасги, построил там семь алтарей и принёс жертвы, заколов на каждом алтаре по быку и по барану.
And [Balaam] said to Balak, Stand here by thy burnt-offering, and I will go to meet yonder.
Тогда Валаам сказал Валаку: "Постой здесь, у этого алтаря, а я пойду туда, навстречу Богу".
And Jehovah met Balaam, and put a word in his mouth, and said, Return to Balak, and thus shalt thou speak.
Господь встретился с Валаамом и сказал ему, что говорить, а потом повелел Валааму возвратиться к Валаку.
And he came to him, and behold, he was standing by his burnt-offering, and the princes of Moab with him; and Balak said to him, What has Jehovah spoken?
Валаам возвратился к Валаку, который всё ещё стоял у алтаря вместе с вождями Моава. Увидев приближающегося Валаама, Валак спросил: "Что сказал Господь?"
Then he took up his parable and said, Rise up, Balak, and hear! hearken unto me, son of Zippor!
Валаам ответил: "Встань, Валак, и слушай меня! Слушай меня, Валак, сын Сепфоров!
God is not a man, that he should lie; neither a son of man, that he should repent. Shall he say and not do? and shall he speak and not make it good?
Бог не человек, чтобы Ему лгать, Бог не человеческое существо, чтобы Ему изменяться, Его решения неизменны. Он делает, что скажет, и исполняет обещанное.
Behold, I have received [mission] to bless; and he hath blessed, and I cannot reverse it.
Господь повелел мне благословить тот народ, Господь благословил их, и я не могу изменить этого.
He hath not beheld iniquity in Jacob, neither hath he seen wrong in Israel; Jehovah his God is with him, and the shout of a king is in his midst.
Бог не увидел в народе Иакова зла и не увидел греха в израильском народе! Господь — Бог их, Он с ними! Великий Царь с ними!
God brought him out of Egypt; he hath as it were the strength of a buffalo.
Бог вывел этот народ из Египта, в них сила неукротимого быка.
For there is no enchantment against Jacob, neither is there any divination against Israel. At this time it shall be said of Jacob and of Israel, What hath God wrought!
Никакая сила не победит народ Иакова, никакое колдовство не остановит израильский народ. И скажут люди об Иакове и израильском народе: "Вот что сделал Бог!"
Lo, the people will rise up as a lioness, and lift himself up as a lion. He shall not lie down until he have eaten the prey and drunk the blood of the slain.
Народ этот силён, как лев, сражается, как лев, и не ляжет отдыхать, пока не пожрёт своего врага. Этот лев не ляжет отдыхать, пока не напьётся крови тех, кто против него!"
And Balak said to Balaam, Neither curse them at all, nor bless them at all.
И сказал тогда Валак Валааму: "Ты не просил о благословении для этого народа, но не просил и о проклятии для него!"
And Balaam answered and said to Balak, Did I not tell thee, saying, All that Jehovah shall speak, that will I do?
"Не говорил ли я тебе, что могу делать только то, что Господь повелит мне!" — ответил Валаам.
And Balak said to Balaam, Come, I pray thee, I will bring thee to another place; perhaps it will be right in the sight of God that thou curse me them from thence.
Тогда Валак сказал Валааму: "Тогда пойдём со мной на другое место, может быть, Господу будет угодно разрешить тебе проклясть их с другого места".
And Balak brought Balaam to the top of Peor, which looks over the surface of the waste.
И вот Валак повёл Валаама на вершину горы Фегор, обращённой к пустыне.
And Balaam said to Balak, Build me here seven altars, and prepare me here seven bullocks and seven rams.
"Построй здесь семь алтарей, — сказал Валаам, — а потом приготовь для алтарей семь быков и семь баранов".
