The Lord of the Sabbath

At that time Jesus went on the sabbath through the cornfields; and his disciples were hungry, and began to pluck the ears and to eat.

1

Того ча́су Ісус перехо́див лана́ми в суботу. А у́чні Його зголодніли були, і стали зривати колосся та їсти.

2

But the Pharisees, seeing [it], said to him, Behold, thy disciples are doing what is not lawful to do on sabbath.

2

Побачили ж це фарисеї, та й кажуть Йому: „Он учні Твої роблять те, чого не годиться робити в суботу“.

3

But he said to them, Have ye not read what David did when he was hungry, and they that were with him?

А Він відповів їм: „Чи ж ви не читали, що́ зробив був Давид, коли сам зголоднів і ті, хто був із ним?

4

How he entered into the house of God, and ate the shewbread, which it was not lawful for him to eat, nor for those with him, but for the priests only?

4

Як він увійшов до Божого дому, і спожив хліби́ показні́, яких їсти не можна було ні йому, ані тим, хто був із ним, а тільки самим священикам?

5

Or have ye not read in the law that on the sabbaths the priests in the temple profane the sabbath, and are blameless?

5

Або ви не читали в Зако́ні що в суботу священики пору́шують суботу у храмі, — і невинні вони?

But I say unto you, that there is here what is greater than the temple.

А Я вам кажу́, що тут Більший, як храм!

7

But if ye had known what is: I will have mercy and not sacrifice, ye would not have condemned the guiltless.

Коли б знали ви, що́ то є: „Милости хо́чу, а не жертви“, то ви не судили б невинних.

For the Son of man is Lord of the sabbath.

Бо Син Лю́дський Госпо́дь і суботі“!

Jesus Heals on the Sabbath

And, going away from thence, he came into their synagogue.

9

І, вийшовши звідти, прибув Він до їхньої синагоги.

10

And behold, there was a man having his hand withered. And they asked him, saying, Is it lawful to heal on the sabbath? that they might accuse him.

10

І ото, був там чоловік, що мав суху руку. І, щоб обвини́ти Ісуса, запитали Його: „Чи вздоровляти годи́ться в суботу?“

11

But he said to them, What man shall there be of you who has one sheep, and if this fall into a pit on the sabbath, will not lay hold of it and raise [it] up?

11

А Він їм сказав: „Чи зна́йде́ться між вами люди́на, яка, одну мавши вівцю́, не пі́де по неї, і не врятує її, як вона впаде в яму в суботу?

12

How much better then is a man than a sheep! So that it is lawful to do well on the sabbath.

12

А скільки ж люди́на вартніша за тую овечку! Тому́ можна чинити добро й у суботу“!

13

Then he says to the man, Stretch out thy hand. And he stretched [it] out, and it was restored sound as the other.

13

І каже тоді чоловікові: „Простягни свою руку!“ Той простяг, — і стала здорова вона, як і друга.

14

But the Pharisees, having gone out, took counsel against him, how they might destroy him.

14

Фарисеї ж пішли, і зібрали нараду на Нього, — я́к би Його погубити?

15

God's Chosen Servant

But Jesus knowing [it], withdrew thence, and great crowds followed him; and he healed them all:

15

А Ісус, розізнавши, пішов Собі звідти.
Ісус уздоровля́є недужих
І багато пішло вслід за Ним, — і Він їх уздоро́вив усіх.

16

and charged them strictly that they should not make him publicly known:

16

А Він наказав їм суво́ро Його не виявляти,

17

that that might be fulfilled which was spoken through Esaias the prophet, saying,

17

щоб спра́вдилось те, що́ сказав був Ісая пророк, промовляючи:

18

Behold my servant, whom I have chosen, my beloved, in whom my soul has found its delight. I will put my Spirit upon him, and he shall shew forth judgment to the nations.

18

„Ото Мій Слуга, що Я вибрав Його, Мій Улю́блений, що Його полюбила душа Моя! Вкладу́ Свого Духа в Нього, — і Він суд проголо́сить поганам.

19

He shall not strive or cry out, nor shall any one hear his voice in the streets;

19

Він не буде змагатися, ані кричати, і на вулицях чути не буде ніхто Його голосу.

20

a bruised reed shall he not break, and smoking flax shall he not quench, until he bring forth judgment unto victory;

20

Він очерети́ни надло́мленої не доло́мить, і ґнота́ догасаючого не пога́сить, поки не допровадить при́суду до перемоги.

21

and on his name shall [the] nations hope.

21

І погани наді́ятись будуть на Йме́ння Його“!

22

A House Divided

Then was brought to him one possessed by a demon, blind and dumb, and he healed him, so that the dumb [man] spake and saw.

22

Тоді привели́ до Ньо́го німого сліпця́, що був біснуватий, — і Він уздоро́вив його, так що німий став говорити та бачити.

23

And all the crowds were amazed and said, Is this [man] the Son of David?

23

І дивувались усі люди й казали: „Чи ж не Син це Давидів?“

24

But the Pharisees, having heard [it], said, This [man] does not cast out demons, but by Beelzebub, prince of demons.

24

Фарисеї ж, почувши, сказали: „Він де́монів не виганяє інакше, тільки як Вельзеву́лом, князем де́монів“.

25

But he, knowing their thoughts, said to them, Every kingdom divided against itself is brought to desolation, and every city or house divided against itself will not subsist.

25

А Він знав думки їхні, і промовив до них: „Кожне царство, поділене супроти себе, запусті́є. І кожне місто чи дім, поділені супроти себе, не втри́маються.

26

And if Satan casts out Satan, he is divided against himself; how then shall his kingdom subsist?

26

І коли сатана́ сатану́ виганяє, то ділиться супроти себе; як же втри́мається царство його?

27

And if *I* cast out demons by Beelzebub, your sons, by whom do they cast [them] out? For this reason *they* shall be your judges.

27

І коли Вельзевулом виганя́ю Я де́монів, то ким виганя́ють сини ваші? Тому́ вони стануть вам су́ддями.

28

But if *I* by [the] Spirit of God cast out demons, then indeed the kingdom of God is come upon you.

28

А коли ж Духом Божим виго́ню Я де́монів, то настало для вас Царство Боже.

29

Or how can any one enter into the house of the strong [man] and plunder his goods, unless first he bind the strong [man]? and then he will plunder his house.

29

Або я́к то хто може вде́ртися в дім дужого, та пограбувати добро́ його, якщо перше не зв'яже дужого? І аж тоді він госпо́ду його пограбує.

30

He that is not with me is against me, and he that gathers not with me scatters.

30

Хто не зо Мною, той супроти Мене; і хто не збирає зо Мною, той розкида́є.

31

The Unpardonable Sin

For this reason I say unto you, Every sin and injurious speaking shall be forgiven to men, but speaking injuriously of the Spirit shall not be forgiven to men.

31

Тому́ то кажу́ вам: усякий гріх, навіть богозневага, про́ститься лю́дям, але богозневага на Духа не про́ститься!

32

And whosoever shall have spoken a word against the Son of man, it shall be forgiven him; but whosoever shall speak against the Holy Spirit, it shall not be forgiven him, neither in this age nor in the coming [one].

32

І як скаже хто слово на Лю́дського Сина, то йому́ проститься те; а коли скаже проти Духа Святого, — не про́ститься того йому ані в цім віці, ані в майбу́тнім!

33

A Tree Recognized by its Fruit

Either make the tree good, and its fruit good; or make the tree corrupt, and its fruit corrupt. For from the fruit the tree is known.

Або ви́ростіть дерево добре, то й плід його добрий, або ви́ростіть дерево зле, то й плід його злий. Пізнається бо дерево з пло́ду!

34

Offspring of vipers! how can ye speak good things, being wicked? For of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaks.

34

Ро́де змії́ний! Як ви можете мовити добре, бувши злі? Бо чим серце напо́внене, те говорять уста́.

35

The good man out of the good treasure brings forth good things; and the wicked man out of the wicked treasure brings forth wicked things.

35

Добра люди́на з доброго ска́рбу добре виносить, а лукава люди́на зо скарбу лихого виносить лихе́.

36

But I say unto you, that every idle word which men shall say, they shall render an account of it in judgment-day:

36

Кажу́ ж вам, що за кожне слово пусте, яке скажуть люди, дадуть вони відповідь судного дня!

37

for by thy words thou shalt be justified, and by thy words thou shalt be condemned.

37

Бо зо слів своїх будеш випра́вданий, і зо слів своїх будеш засу́джений“.

38

The Sign of Jonah

Then answered him some of the scribes and Pharisees, saying, Teacher, we desire to see a sign from thee.

38

Тоді дехто із книжників та фарисеїв озвались до Нього й сказали: „Учителю, — хочемо побачити озна́ку від Те́бе“.

39

But he, answering, said to them, A wicked and adulterous generation seeks after a sign, and a sign shall not be given to it save the sign of Jonas the prophet.

39

А Ісус відповів їм: „Рід лукавий і перелю́бний шукає ознаки, — та ознаки йому не дадуть, окрім ознаки пророка Йо́ни.

40

For even as Jonas was in the belly of the great fish three days and three nights, thus shall the Son of man be in the heart of the earth three days and three nights.

40

Як Йо́на перебув у сере́дині китовій три дні і три ночі, так перебу́де три дні та три ночі й Син Лю́дський у серці землі.

41

Ninevites shall stand up in the judgment with this generation, and shall condemn it: for they repented at the preaching of Jonas; and behold, more than Jonas [is] here.

41

Ніневі́тяни стануть на суд із цим родом, — і осудять його, вони бо покаялися через Йо́нину проповідь. А тут ото Більший, ніж Йо́на!

42

A queen of [the] south shall rise up in the judgment with this generation, and shall condemn it; for she came from the ends of the earth to hear the wisdom of Solomon; and behold, more than Solomon [is] here.

Цариця з пі́вдня на суд стане з родом оцим, — і засу́дить його, бо вона з кінця світу прийшла Соломонову мудрість послу́хати. А тут ото Більший, аніж Соломон!

43

Return of an Unclean Spirit

But when the unclean spirit has gone out of the man, he goes through dry places, seeking rest, and does not find [it].

43

А коли дух нечистий виходить із люди́ни, то блукає місцями безвідними, відпочинку шукаючи, та не знахо́дить.

44

Then he says, I will return to my house whence I came out; and having come, he finds [it] unoccupied, swept, and adorned.

44

Тоді він говорить: „Вернуся до дому свого́, звідки вийшов“. А як ве́рнеться він, то хату знахо́дить порожню, заметену й при́брану.

45

Then he goes and takes with himself seven other spirits worse than himself, and entering in, they dwell there; and the last condition of that man becomes worse than the first. Thus shall it be to this wicked generation also.

Тоді він іде, та й приводить сімох духів інших, лютіших за себе, — і входять вони та й живуть тут. І буде останнє люди́ні тій гірше за перше... Так буде й лукавому родові цьому́!“

Jesus' Mother and Brothers

But while he was yet speaking to the crowds, behold, his mother and his brethren stood without, seeking to speak to him.

46

Коли Він іще промовляв до наро́ду, аж ось мати й брати Його о́сторонь стали, бажаючи з Ним говорити.

47

Then one said unto him, Behold, thy mother and thy brethren are standing without, seeking to speak to thee.

47

І сказав хтось Йому́: „Ото мати Твоя й Твої бра́ття стоять онде о́сторонь, і говорити з Тобою бажають“.

48

But he answering said to him that spoke to him, Who is my mother, and who are my brethren?

48

А Він відповів тому́, хто Йому говорив, і сказав: „Хто́ мати Моя? І хто́ браття Мої?“

49

And, stretching out his hand to his disciples, he said, Behold my mother and my brethren;

49

І, показавши рукою Своєю на у́чнів Своїх, Він промовив: „Ото Моя мати та браття Мої!

50

for whosoever shall do the will of my Father who is in [the] heavens, he is my brother, and sister, and mother.

50

Бо хто волю Мого Отця, що на небі, чини́тиме, той Мені брат, і сестра, і мати!“
