The Pilgrimage of the Magi

Now Jesus having been born in Bethlehem of Judaea, in the days of Herod the king, behold magi from the east arrived at Jerusalem, saying,

Where is the king of the Jews that has been born? for we have seen his star in the east, and have come to do him homage.

But Herod the king having heard [of it], was troubled, and all Jerusalem with him;

Царь Ирод, услышав это, очень встревожился, а вместе с ним встревожились и жители Иерусалима.

and, assembling all the chief priests and scribes of the people, he inquired of them where the Christ should be born.

Тогда Ирод собрал всех первосвященников и законников и спросил их, где должен родиться Христос.

And they said to him, In Bethlehem of Judaea; for thus it is written through the prophet:

Они сказали ему: "В Вифлееме, в Иудее, ибо вот что написано пророком:

And *thou* Bethlehem, land of Juda, art in no wise the least among the governors of Juda; for out of thee shall go forth a leader who shall shepherd my people Israel.

Ты, Вифлеем, в стране Иудейской, отнюдь не последний среди правителей иудейских, ибо из тебя придёт правитель, который станет пастырем народа Моего, Израиля."

Then Herod, having secretly called the magi, inquired of them accurately the time of the star that was appearing;

И тогда Ирод призвал мудрецов и выведал у них, когда появилась звезда в небе.

and having sent them to Bethlehem, said, Go, search out accurately concerning the child, and when ye shall have found [him] bring me back word, so that *I* also may come and do him homage.

Затем он послал их в Вифлеем и сказал: "Пойдите и расспросите подробно о Младенце. И когда найдёте Его, сообщите мне, чтобы я тоже мог пойти и поклониться Ему".

And they having heard the king went their way; and lo, the star, which they had seen in the east, went before them until it came and stood over the place where the little child was.

Они выслушали царя и ушли, и звезда, которую они увидели воссиявшей на небе на востоке, двигалась впереди них, пока не остановилась над местом, где было Дитя.

And when they saw the star they rejoiced with exceeding great joy.

And having come into the house they saw the little child with Mary his mother, and falling down did him homage. And having opened their treasures, they offered to him gifts, gold, and frankincense, and myrrh.

Они вошли в дом и увидели Младенца с Марией, Матерью Его и, упав ниц, поклонились Ему. Потом открыли они свои ларцы с сокровищами и стали подносить Ему дары: золото, благовония и мирра.

And being divinely instructed in a dream not to return to Herod, they departed into their own country another way.

Но Бог явился им во сне и предупредил их, чтобы они не возвращались к Ироду, поэтому мудрецы отправились обратно в свою страну другой дорогой.

The Flight to Egypt

Now, they having departed, behold, an angel of [the] Lord appears in a dream to Joseph, saying, Arise, take to [thee] the little child and his mother, and flee into Egypt, and be there until I shall tell thee; for Herod will seek the little child to destroy it.

После того как они ушли, Иосифу во сне явился ангел Господний и сказал: "Вставай, возьми Младенца и Мать Его и беги в Египет. Оставайся там, пока не дам тебе знать, ибо Ирод будет искать Младенца, чтобы убить Его".

And, having arisen, he took to [him] the little child and his mother by night, and departed into Egypt.

Иосиф встал, взял Младенца и Мать Его ночью и ушёл в Египет.

And he was there until the death of Herod, that that might be fulfilled which was spoken by [the] Lord through the prophet, saying, Out of Egypt have I called my son.

Он оставался там до смерти Ирода. Это случилось, чтобы исполнилось то, что Господь сказал устами пророка: "Призвал Я Сына Моего из Египта".

Herod Slaughters Infants

Then Herod, seeing that he had been mocked by the magi, was greatly enraged; and sent and slew all the boys which [were] in Bethlehem, and in all its borders, from two years and under, according to the time which he had accurately inquired from the magi.

Тогда Ирод, увидев, что мудрецы его обманули, впал в ярость и приказал убить всех младенцев мужского пола в Вифлееме и в округе от двух лет и младше (определив возраст из того, что сказали ему мудрецы).

Then was fulfilled that which was spoken through Jeremias the prophet, saying,

Тогда исполнилось то, что было сказано устами пророка Иеремии:

A voice has been heard in Rama, weeping, and great lamentation: Rachel weeping [for] her children, and would not be comforted, because they are not.

"Вопль раздался в Раме, звуки рыданий и печали великой. Это плачет Рахиль о детях своих, не слушая утешений, ибо нет их больше в живых".

The Return to Nazareth

But Herod having died, behold, an angel of [the] Lord appears in a dream to Joseph in Egypt, saying,

После смерти Ирода Иосифу в Египте явился во сне ангел Господний.

Arise, take to [thee] the little child and its mother, and go into the land of Israel: for they who sought the life of the little child are dead.

20

Он сказал: "Вставай, возьми Младенца и Мать Его и отправляйся в Израильскую страну, ибо те, кто пытался погубить Младенца, мертвы".

21

And he arose and took to [him] the little child and its mother, and came into the land of Israel;

21

Иосиф встал, взял Младенца и Мать Его и отправился в страну Израильскую.

22

but having heard that 'Archelaus reigns over Judaea, instead of Herod his father,' he was afraid to go there; and having been divinely instructed in a dream, he went away into the parts of Galilee,

Услышав же, что Архелай правит Иудеей вместо Ирода, отца своего, Иосиф побоялся туда возвращаться, но, получив во сне предупреждение от Бога, пошёл в окрестности Галилеи.

and came and dwelt in a town called Nazareth; so that that should be fulfilled which was spoken through the prophets, He shall be called a Nazaraean.

Придя туда, он поселился в городе под названием Назарет. Иосиф сделал так, чтобы исполнились предсказания пророка о том, что нарекут Его Назареем.
