Darby Bible Translation

New American Standard Bible

  • Temple Destruction Foretold

    And Jesus went forth and went away from the temple, and his disciples came to [him] to point out to him the buildings of the temple.
  • Signs of Christ’s Return

    Jesus came out from the temple and was going away when His disciples came up to point out the temple buildings to Him.
  • And he answering said to them, Do ye not see all these things? Verily I say to you, Not a stone shall be left here upon a stone which shall not be thrown down.
  • And He said to them, “Do you not see all these things? Truly I say to you, not one stone here will be left upon another, which will not be torn down.”
  • And as he was sitting upon the mount of Olives the disciples came to him privately, saying, Tell us, when shall these things be, and what is the sign of thy coming and [the] completion of the age?
  • As He was sitting on the Mount of Olives, the disciples came to Him privately, saying, “Tell us, when will these things happen, and what will be the sign of Your coming, and of the end of the age?”
  • And Jesus answering said to them, See that no one mislead you.
  • And Jesus answered and said to them, “See to it that no one misleads you.
  • False Christs

    For many shall come in my name, saying, *I* am the Christ, and they shall mislead many.
  • “For many will come in My name, saying, ‘I am the Christ,’ and will mislead many.
  • But ye will hear of wars and rumours of wars. See that ye be not disturbed; for all [these things] must take place, but it is not yet the end.
  • “You will be hearing of wars and rumors of wars. See that you are not frightened, for those things must take place, but that is not yet the end.
  • For nation shall rise up against nation, and kingdom against kingdom; and there shall be famines and pestilences, and earthquakes in divers places.
  • “For nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom, and in various places there will be famines and earthquakes.
  • But all these [are the] beginning of throes.
  • “But all these things are merely the beginning of birth pangs.
  • Witnessing to All Nations

    Then shall they deliver you up to tribulation, and shall kill you; and ye will be hated of all the nations for my name's sake.
  • “Then they will deliver you to tribulation, and will kill you, and you will be hated by all nations because of My name.
  • And then will many be offended, and will deliver one another up, and hate one another;
  • “At that time many will fall away and will betray one another and hate one another.
  • and many false prophets shall arise and shall mislead many;
  • “Many false prophets will arise and will mislead many.
  • and because lawlessness shall prevail, the love of the most shall grow cold;
  • “Because lawlessness is increased, most people’s love will grow cold.
  • but he that has endured to the end, *he* shall be saved.
  • “But the one who endures to the end, he will be saved.
  • And these glad tidings of the kingdom shall be preached in the whole habitable earth, for a witness to all the nations, and then shall come the end.
  • “This gospel of the kingdom shall be preached in the whole world as a testimony to all the nations, and then the end will come.
  • The Abomination of Desolation

    When therefore ye shall see the abomination of desolation, which is spoken of through Daniel the prophet, standing in [what is a] holy place, (he that reads let him understand,)

  • Perilous Times

    “Therefore when you see the ABOMINATION OF DESOLATION which was spoken of through Daniel the prophet, standing in the holy place (let the reader understand),
  • then let those who are in Judaea flee to the mountains;
  • then those who are in Judea must flee to the mountains.
  • let not him that is on the house come down to take the things out of his house;
  • “Whoever is on the housetop must not go down to get the things out that are in his house.
  • and let not him that is in the field turn back to take his garment.
  • “Whoever is in the field must not turn back to get his cloak.
  • But woe to those that are with child, and those that give suck in those days.
  • “But woe to those who are pregnant and to those who are nursing babies in those days!
  • But pray that your flight may not be in winter time nor on sabbath:
  • “But pray that your flight will not be in the winter, or on a Sabbath.
  • for then shall there be great tribulation, such as has not been from [the] beginning of [the] world until now, nor ever shall be;
  • “For then there will be a great tribulation, such as has not occurred since the beginning of the world until now, nor ever will.
  • and if those days had not been cut short, no flesh had been saved; but on account of the elect those days shall be cut short.
  • “Unless those days had been cut short, no life would have been saved; but for the sake of the elect those days will be cut short.
  • Then if any one say to you, Behold, here is the Christ, or here, believe [it] not.
  • “Then if anyone says to you, ‘Behold, here is the Christ,’ or ‘There He is,’ do not believe him.
  • For there shall arise false Christs, and false prophets, and shall give great signs and wonders, so as to mislead, if possible, even the elect.
  • “For false Christs and false prophets will arise and will show great signs and wonders, so as to mislead, if possible, even the elect.
  • Behold, I have told you beforehand.
  • “Behold, I have told you in advance.
  • The Return of the Son of Man

    If therefore they say to you, Behold, he is in the desert, go not forth; behold, [he is] in the inner chambers, do not believe [it].
  • “So if they say to you, ‘Behold, He is in the wilderness,’ do not go out, or, ‘Behold, He is in the inner rooms,’ do not believe them.
  • For as the lightning goes forth from the east and shines to the west, so shall be the coming of the Son of man.
  • “For just as the lightning comes from the east and flashes even to the west, so will the coming of the Son of Man be.
  • [For] wherever the carcase is, there will be gathered the eagles.
  • “Wherever the corpse is, there the vultures will gather.
  • But immediately after the tribulation of those days the sun shall be darkened, and the moon not give her light, and the stars shall fall from heaven, and the powers of the heavens shall be shaken.

  • The Glorious Return

    “But immediately after the tribulation of those days THE SUN WILL BE DARKENED, AND THE MOON WILL NOT GIVE ITS LIGHT, AND THE STARS WILL FALL from the sky, and the powers of the heavens will be shaken.
  • And then shall appear the sign of the Son of man in heaven; and then shall all the tribes of the land lament, and they shall see the Son of man coming on the clouds of heaven with power and great glory.
  • “And then the sign of the Son of Man will appear in the sky, and then all the tribes of the earth will mourn, and they will see the SON OF MAN COMING ON THE CLOUDS OF THE SKY with power and great glory.
  • And he shall send his angels with a great sound of trumpet, and they shall gather together his elect from the four winds, from [the one] extremity of [the] heavens to [the other] extremity of them.
  • “And He will send forth His angels with A GREAT TRUMPET and THEY WILL GATHER TOGETHER His elect from the four winds, from one end of the sky to the other.
  • The lesson of the Fig Tree

    But learn the parable from the fig-tree: When already its branch becomes tender and produces leaves, ye know that the summer is near.

  • Parable of the Fig Tree

    “Now learn the parable from the fig tree: when its branch has already become tender and puts forth its leaves, you know that summer is near;
  • Thus also *ye*, when ye see all these things, know that it is near, at the doors.
  • so, you too, when you see all these things, recognize that He is near, right at the door.
  • Verily I say to you, This generation will not have passed away until all these things shall have taken place.
  • “Truly I say to you, this generation will not pass away until all these things take place.
  • The heaven and the earth shall pass away, but my words shall in no wise pass away.
  • “Heaven and earth will pass away, but My words will not pass away.
  • Be Ready at Any Hour

    But of that day and hour no one knows, not even the angels of the heavens, but [my] Father alone.
  • “But of that day and hour no one knows, not even the angels of heaven, nor the Son, but the Father alone.
  • But as the days of Noe, so also shall be the coming of the Son of man.
  • “For the coming of the Son of Man will be just like the days of Noah.
  • For as they were in the days which were before the flood, eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, until the day on which Noe entered into the ark,
  • “For as in those days before the flood they were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, until the day that Noah entered the ark,
  • and they knew not till the flood came and took all away; thus also shall be the coming of the Son of man.
  • and they did not understand until the flood came and took them all away; so will the coming of the Son of Man be.
  • Then two shall be in the field, one is taken and one is left;
  • “Then there will be two men in the field; one will be taken and one will be left.
  • two [women] grinding at the mill, one is taken and one is left.
  • “Two women will be grinding at the mill; one will be taken and one will be left.
  • Watch therefore, for ye know not in what hour your Lord comes.

  • Be Ready for His Coming

    “Therefore be on the alert, for you do not know which day your Lord is coming.
  • But know this, that if the master of the house had known in what watch the thief was coming, he would have watched and not have suffered his house to be dug through [into].
  • “But be sure of this, that if the head of the house had known at what time of the night the thief was coming, he would have been on the alert and would not have allowed his house to be broken into.
  • Wherefore *ye* also, be ye ready, for in that hour that ye think not the Son of man comes.
  • “For this reason you also must be ready; for the Son of Man is coming at an hour when you do not think He will.
  • Who then is the faithful and prudent bondman whom his lord has set over his household, to give them food in season?
  • “Who then is the faithful and sensible slave whom his master put in charge of his household to give them their food at the proper time?
  • Blessed is that bondman whom his lord on coming shall find doing thus.
  • “Blessed is that slave whom his master finds so doing when he comes.
  • Verily I say unto you, that he will set him over all his substance.
  • “Truly I say to you that he will put him in charge of all his possessions.
  • But if that evil bondman should say in his heart, My lord delays to come,
  • “But if that evil slave says in his heart, ‘My master is not coming for a long time,’
  • and begin to beat his fellow-bondmen, and eat and drink with the drunken;
  • and begins to beat his fellow slaves and eat and drink with drunkards;
  • the lord of that bondman shall come in a day when he does not expect it, and in an hour he knows not of,
  • the master of that slave will come on a day when he does not expect him and at an hour which he does not know,
  • and shall cut him in two and appoint his portion with the hypocrites: there shall be the weeping and the gnashing of teeth.
  • and will cut him in pieces and assign him a place with the hypocrites; in that place there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.
