When therefore thou doest alms, sound not a trumpet before thee, as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and in the streets, so that they may have glory from men. Verily I say unto you, They have their reward.
Отож, коли чиниш ти ми́лостиню, не сурми́ перед себе, як то роблять оті лицеміри по синагогах та вулицях, щоб хвалили їх люди. Поправді кажу́ вам: вони мають уже нагороду свою!

А як ти чиниш ми́лостиню, — хай не знатиме ліва рука твоя, що́ робить прави́ця твоя,
so that thine alms may be in secret, and thy Father who sees in secret will render [it] to thee.
щоб таємна була твоя милостиня, а Отець твій, що бачить таємне, віддасть тобі явно.
The Lord's Prayer

А як мо́литеся, то не будьте, як ті лицеміри, що люблять ставати й молитися по синагогах та на перехре́стях, щоб їх бачили люди. Поправді кажу́ вам: вони мають уже нагороду свою!
But *thou*, when thou prayest, enter into thy chamber, and having shut thy door, pray to thy Father who is in secret, and thy Father who sees in secret will render [it] to thee.
А ти, коли мо́лишся, „увійди до своєї комі́рчини, зачини свої двері, і помолися“ Отцеві своєму, що в таїні́; а Отець твій, що бачить таємне, віддасть тобі явно.
But when ye pray, use not vain repetitions, as those who are of the nations: for they think they shall be heard through their much speaking.
А як молитеся, не прока́зуйте за́йвого, як ті погани, — бо ду́мають, ніби вони бу́дуть ви́слухані за своє велемо́вство.
Be not ye therefore like them, for your Father knows of what things ye have need before ye beg [anything] of him.
Отож, не вподобля́йтеся їм, бо знає Отець ваш, чого потребу́єте, ще раніше за ваше проха́ння!
Thus therefore pray *ye*: Our Father who art in the heavens, let thy name be sanctified,

let thy kingdom come, let thy will be done as in heaven so upon the earth;
нехай при́йде Царство Твоє, нехай буде воля Твоя, як на небі, так і на землі.
and forgive us our debts, as we also forgive our debtors,
І прости нам довги́ наші, як і ми прощаємо винуватцям нашим.
and lead us not into temptation, but save us from evil.
I не введи нас у випробо́вування, але визволи нас від лукавого. Бо Твоє є царство, і сила, і слава навіки. Амі́нь“.
For if ye forgive men their offences, your heavenly Father also will forgive you [yours],
Бо як лю́дям ви про́стите про́гріхи їхні, то про́стить і вам ваш Небесний Отець.
but if ye do not forgive men their offences, neither will your Father forgive your offences.
А коли ви не бу́дете лю́дям прощати, то й Отець ваш не простить вам про́гріхів ваших.
Proper Fasting
And when ye fast, be not as the hypocrites, downcast in countenance; for they disfigure their faces, so that they may appear fasting to men: verily I say unto you, They have their reward.

Treasures in Heaven
Lay not up for yourselves treasures upon the earth, where moth and rust spoils, and where thieves dig through and steal;

Не складайте ска́рбів собі на землі, де нищить їх міль та іржа, і де злоді́ї підко́пуються й викрадають.
but lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust spoils, and where thieves do not dig through nor steal;
Складайте ж собі ска́рби на небі, де ні міль, ні іржа їх не нищить, і де злодії до них не підко́пуються та не кра́дуть.
for where thy treasure is, there will be also thy heart.
Бо де скарб твій, — там бу́де й серце твоє!
The Lamp of the Body
The lamp of the body is the eye; if therefore thine eye be single, thy whole body will be light:

Око — то світи́льник для тіла. Тож як око твоє буде здорове, то й усе тіло твоє буде світле.
but if thine eye be wicked, thy whole body will be dark. If therefore the light that is in thee be darkness, how great the darkness!
А коли б твоє око лихе було, то й усе тіло твоє буде темне. Отож, коли світло, що в тобі, є те́мрява, — то яка ж то велика та те́мрява!
No one can serve two masters; for either he will hate the one and will love the other, or he will hold to the one and despise the other. Ye cannot serve God and mammon.
Ніхто двом панам служити не може, — бо або одно́го знена́видить, а дру́гого буде любити, або буде трима́тись одно́го, а другого зне́хтує. Не можете Богові служити й мамо́ні.
Do Not Worry
For this cause I say unto you, Do not be careful about your life, what ye should eat and what ye should drink; nor for your body what ye should put on. Is not the life more than food, and the body than raiment?

Через те вам кажу́: Не журіться про життя́ своє́ — що́ будете їсти та що́ будете пити, ні про тіло своє, — у що́ зодягне́теся. Чи ж не більше від їжі життя́, а від одягу тіло?
Look at the birds of the heaven, that they sow not, nor reap, nor gather into granaries, and your heavenly Father nourishes them. Are *ye* not much more excellent than they?
Погляньте на птахі́в небесних, що не сіють, не жнуть, не збирають у клуні, та проте ваш Небесний Отець їх годує. Чи ж ви не багато вартніші за них?
But which of you by carefulness can add to his growth one cubit?
Хто ж із вас, коли жу́риться, зможе дода́ти до зро́сту свого бодай ліктя одно́го?
And why are ye careful about clothing? Observe with attention the lilies of the field, how they grow: they toil not, neither do they spin;
І про одяг чого ви клопочетесь? Погляньте на польові́ ліле́ї, як зроста́ють вони, — не працюють, ані не пряду́ть.
but I say unto you, that not even Solomon in all his glory was clothed as one of these.
А Я вам кажу́, що й сам Соломо́н у всій славі своїй не вдягався отак, як одна з них.
But if God so clothe the herbage of the field, which is to-day, and to-morrow is cast into [the] oven, will he not much rather you, O [ye] of little faith?
І коли польову́ ту траву, що сьогодні ось є, а взавтра до пе́чі вкидається, Бог отак зодягає, — скільки ж краще зодягне Він вас, маловірні!
Be not therefore careful, saying, What shall we eat? or What shall we drink? or What shall we put on?
Отож, не журіться, кажучи: Що́ ми будемо їсти, чи: Що́ будемо пити, або: У що́ ми зодя́гнемось?
for all these things the nations seek after; for your heavenly Father knows that ye have need of all these things.
Бож усьо́го того́ погани шука́ють; але знає Отець ваш Небесний, що всього того вам потрібно.
But seek ye first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things shall be added unto you.
Шукайте ж найперш Царства Божого й праведности Його́, — а все це́ вам додасться.
