Darby Bible Translation

New American Standard Bible

  • Do Not Judge

    Judge not, that ye may not be judged;
  • Judging Others

    “Do not judge so that you will not be judged.
  • for with what judgment ye judge, ye shall be judged; and with what measure ye mete, it shall be measured to you.
  • “For in the way you judge, you will be judged; and by your standard of measure, it will be measured to you.
  • But why lookest thou on the mote that is in the eye of thy brother, but observest not the beam that is in thine eye?
  • “Why do you look at the speck that is in your brother’s eye, but do not notice the log that is in your own eye?
  • Or how wilt thou say to thy brother, Allow [me], I will cast out the mote from thine eye; and behold, the beam is in thine eye?
  • “Or how can you say to your brother, ‘Let me take the speck out of your eye,’ and behold, the log is in your own eye?
  • Hypocrite, cast out first the beam out of thine eye, and then thou wilt see clearly to cast out the mote out of the eye of thy brother.
  • “You hypocrite, first take the log out of your own eye, and then you will see clearly to take the speck out of your brother’s eye.
  • Give not that which is holy to the dogs, nor cast your pearls before the swine, lest they trample them with their feet, and turning round rend you.
  • “Do not give what is holy to dogs, and do not throw your pearls before swine, or they will trample them under their feet, and turn and tear you to pieces.
  • Ask, Seek, Knock

    Ask, and it shall be given to you. Seek, and ye shall find. Knock, and it shall be opened to you.

  • Prayer and the Golden Rule

    “Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you.
  • For every one that asks receives; and he that seeks finds; and to him that knocks it shall be opened.
  • “For everyone who asks receives, and he who seeks finds, and to him who knocks it will be opened.
  • Or what man is there of you who, if his son shall ask of him a loaf of bread, will give him a stone;
  • “Or what man is there among you who, when his son asks for a loaf, will give him a stone?
  • and if he ask a fish, will give him a serpent?
  • “Or if he asks for a fish, he will not give him a snake, will he?
  • If therefore *ye*, being wicked, know [how] to give good gifts to your children, how much rather shall your Father who is in the heavens give good things to them that ask of him?
  • “If you then, being evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father who is in heaven give what is good to those who ask Him!
  • Therefore all things whatever ye desire that men should do to you, thus do *ye* also do to them; for this is the law and the prophets.
  • “In everything, therefore, treat people the same way you want them to treat you, for this is the Law and the Prophets.
  • The Narrow Gate

    Enter in through the narrow gate, for wide the gate and broad the way that leads to destruction, and many are they who enter in through it.

  • The Narrow and Wide Gates

    “Enter through the narrow gate; for the gate is wide and the way is broad that leads to destruction, and there are many who enter through it.
  • For narrow the gate and straitened the way that leads to life, and they are few who find it.
  • “For the gate is small and the way is narrow that leads to life, and there are few who find it.
  • A Tree and its Fruit

    But beware of false prophets, which come to you in sheep's clothing, but within are ravening wolves.

  • A Tree and Its Fruit

    “Beware of the false prophets, who come to you in sheep’s clothing, but inwardly are ravenous wolves.
  • By their fruits ye shall know them. Do [men] gather a bunch of grapes from thorns, or from thistles figs?
  • “You will know them by their fruits. Grapes are not gathered from thorn bushes nor figs from thistles, are they?
  • So every good tree produces good fruits, but the worthless tree produces bad fruits.
  • “So every good tree bears good fruit, but the bad tree bears bad fruit.
  • A good tree cannot produce bad fruits, nor a worthless tree produce good fruits.
  • “A good tree cannot produce bad fruit, nor can a bad tree produce good fruit.
  • Every tree not producing good fruit is cut down and cast into the fire.
  • “Every tree that does not bear good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire.
  • By their fruits then surely ye shall know them.
  • “So then, you will know them by their fruits.
  • Not every one who says to me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of the heavens, but he that does the will of my Father who is in the heavens.
  • “Not everyone who says to Me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but he who does the will of My Father who is in heaven will enter.
  • Many shall say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied through *thy* name, and through *thy* name cast out demons, and through *thy* name done many works of power?
  • “Many will say to Me on that day, ‘Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in Your name, and in Your name cast out demons, and in Your name perform many miracles?’
  • and then will I avow unto them, I never knew you. Depart from me, workers of lawlessness.
  • “And then I will declare to them, ‘I never knew you; DEPART FROM ME, YOU WHO PRACTICE LAWLESSNESS.’
  • The House on the Rock

    Whoever therefore hears these my words and does them, I will liken him to a prudent man, who built his house upon the rock;

  • The Two Foundations

    “Therefore everyone who hears these words of Mine and acts on them, may be compared to a wise man who built his house on the rock.
  • and the rain came down, and the streams came, and the winds blew and fell upon that house, and it did not fall, for it had been founded upon the rock.
  • “And the rain fell, and the floods came, and the winds blew and slammed against that house; and yet it did not fall, for it had been founded on the rock.
  • And every one who hears these my words and does not do them, he shall be likened to a foolish man, who built his house upon the sand;
  • “Everyone who hears these words of Mine and does not act on them, will be like a foolish man who built his house on the sand.
  • and the rain came down, and the streams came, and the winds blew and beat upon that house, and it fell, and its fall was great.
  • “The rain fell, and the floods came, and the winds blew and slammed against that house; and it fell — and great was its fall.”
  • The Authority of Jesus

    And it came to pass, when Jesus had finished these words, the crowds were astonished at his doctrine,
  • When Jesus had finished these words, the crowds were amazed at His teaching;
  • for he taught them as having authority, and not as their scribes.
  • for He was teaching them as one having authority, and not as their scribes.
