Darby Bible Translation

New Living Translation

  • Do Not Judge

    Judge not, that ye may not be judged;
  • Do Not Judge Others

    “Do not judge others, and you will not be judged.
  • for with what judgment ye judge, ye shall be judged; and with what measure ye mete, it shall be measured to you.
  • For you will be treated as you treat others.a The standard you use in judging is the standard by which you will be judged.b
  • But why lookest thou on the mote that is in the eye of thy brother, but observest not the beam that is in thine eye?
  • “And why worry about a speck in your friend’s eyec when you have a log in your own?
  • Or how wilt thou say to thy brother, Allow [me], I will cast out the mote from thine eye; and behold, the beam is in thine eye?
  • How can you think of saying to your friend,d ‘Let me help you get rid of that speck in your eye,’ when you can’t see past the log in your own eye?
  • Hypocrite, cast out first the beam out of thine eye, and then thou wilt see clearly to cast out the mote out of the eye of thy brother.
  • Hypocrite! First get rid of the log in your own eye; then you will see well enough to deal with the speck in your friend’s eye.
  • Give not that which is holy to the dogs, nor cast your pearls before the swine, lest they trample them with their feet, and turning round rend you.
  • “Don’t waste what is holy on people who are unholy.e Don’t throw your pearls to pigs! They will trample the pearls, then turn and attack you.
  • Ask, Seek, Knock

    Ask, and it shall be given to you. Seek, and ye shall find. Knock, and it shall be opened to you.

  • Effective Prayer

    “Keep on asking, and you will receive what you ask for. Keep on seeking, and you will find. Keep on knocking, and the door will be opened to you.
  • For every one that asks receives; and he that seeks finds; and to him that knocks it shall be opened.
  • For everyone who asks, receives. Everyone who seeks, finds. And to everyone who knocks, the door will be opened.
  • Or what man is there of you who, if his son shall ask of him a loaf of bread, will give him a stone;
  • “You parents — if your children ask for a loaf of bread, do you give them a stone instead?
  • and if he ask a fish, will give him a serpent?
  • Or if they ask for a fish, do you give them a snake? Of course not!
  • If therefore *ye*, being wicked, know [how] to give good gifts to your children, how much rather shall your Father who is in the heavens give good things to them that ask of him?
  • So if you sinful people know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your heavenly Father give good gifts to those who ask him.
  • Therefore all things whatever ye desire that men should do to you, thus do *ye* also do to them; for this is the law and the prophets.

  • The Golden Rule

    “Do to others whatever you would like them to do to you. This is the essence of all that is taught in the law and the prophets.
  • The Narrow Gate

    Enter in through the narrow gate, for wide the gate and broad the way that leads to destruction, and many are they who enter in through it.

  • The Narrow Gate

    “You can enter God’s Kingdom only through the narrow gate. The highway to hellf is broad, and its gate is wide for the many who choose that way.
  • For narrow the gate and straitened the way that leads to life, and they are few who find it.
  • But the gateway to life is very narrow and the road is difficult, and only a few ever find it.
  • A Tree and its Fruit

    But beware of false prophets, which come to you in sheep's clothing, but within are ravening wolves.

  • The Tree and Its Fruit

    “Beware of false prophets who come disguised as harmless sheep but are really vicious wolves.
  • By their fruits ye shall know them. Do [men] gather a bunch of grapes from thorns, or from thistles figs?
  • You can identify them by their fruit, that is, by the way they act. Can you pick grapes from thornbushes, or figs from thistles?
  • So every good tree produces good fruits, but the worthless tree produces bad fruits.
  • A good tree produces good fruit, and a bad tree produces bad fruit.
  • A good tree cannot produce bad fruits, nor a worthless tree produce good fruits.
  • A good tree can’t produce bad fruit, and a bad tree can’t produce good fruit.
  • Every tree not producing good fruit is cut down and cast into the fire.
  • So every tree that does not produce good fruit is chopped down and thrown into the fire.
  • By their fruits then surely ye shall know them.
  • Yes, just as you can identify a tree by its fruit, so you can identify people by their actions.
  • Not every one who says to me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of the heavens, but he that does the will of my Father who is in the heavens.

  • True Disciples

    “Not everyone who calls out to me, ‘Lord! Lord!’ will enter the Kingdom of Heaven. Only those who actually do the will of my Father in heaven will enter.
  • Many shall say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied through *thy* name, and through *thy* name cast out demons, and through *thy* name done many works of power?
  • On judgment day many will say to me, ‘Lord! Lord! We prophesied in your name and cast out demons in your name and performed many miracles in your name.’
  • and then will I avow unto them, I never knew you. Depart from me, workers of lawlessness.
  • But I will reply, ‘I never knew you. Get away from me, you who break God’s laws.’
  • The House on the Rock

    Whoever therefore hears these my words and does them, I will liken him to a prudent man, who built his house upon the rock;

  • Building on a Solid Foundation

    “Anyone who listens to my teaching and follows it is wise, like a person who builds a house on solid rock.
  • and the rain came down, and the streams came, and the winds blew and fell upon that house, and it did not fall, for it had been founded upon the rock.
  • Though the rain comes in torrents and the floodwaters rise and the winds beat against that house, it won’t collapse because it is built on bedrock.
  • And every one who hears these my words and does not do them, he shall be likened to a foolish man, who built his house upon the sand;
  • But anyone who hears my teaching and doesn’t obey it is foolish, like a person who builds a house on sand.
  • and the rain came down, and the streams came, and the winds blew and beat upon that house, and it fell, and its fall was great.
  • When the rains and floods come and the winds beat against that house, it will collapse with a mighty crash.”
  • The Authority of Jesus

    And it came to pass, when Jesus had finished these words, the crowds were astonished at his doctrine,
  • When Jesus had finished saying these things, the crowds were amazed at his teaching,
  • for he taught them as having authority, and not as their scribes.
  • for he taught with real authority — quite unlike their teachers of religious law.
