Darby Bible Translation

New Living Translation

  • The Resurrection

    And the sabbath being [now] past, Mary of Magdala, and Mary the [mother] of James, and Salome, bought aromatic spices that they might come and embalm him.
  • The Resurrection

    Saturday evening, when the Sabbath ended, Mary Magdalene, Mary the mother of James, and Salome went out and purchased burial spices so they could anoint Jesus’ body.
  • And very early on the first [day] of the week they come to the sepulchre, the sun having risen.
  • Very early on Sunday morning,a just at sunrise, they went to the tomb.
  • And they said to one another, Who shall roll us away the stone out of the door of the sepulchre?
  • On the way they were asking each other, “Who will roll away the stone for us from the entrance to the tomb?”
  • And when they looked, they see that the stone has been rolled [away], for it was very great.
  • But as they arrived, they looked up and saw that the stone, which was very large, had already been rolled aside.
  • And entering into the sepulchre, they saw a young man sitting on the right, clothed in a white robe, and they were amazed and alarmed;
  • When they entered the tomb, they saw a young man clothed in a white robe sitting on the right side. The women were shocked,
  • but he says to them, Be not alarmed. Ye seek Jesus, the Nazarene, the crucified one. He is risen, he is not here; behold the place where they had put him.
  • but the angel said, “Don’t be alarmed. You are looking for Jesus of Nazareth,b who was crucified. He isn’t here! He is risen from the dead! Look, this is where they laid his body.
  • But go, tell his disciples and Peter, he goes before you into Galilee; there shall ye see him, as he said to you.
  • Now go and tell his disciples, including Peter, that Jesus is going ahead of you to Galilee. You will see him there, just as he told you before he died.”
  • And they went out, and fled from the sepulchre. And trembling and excessive amazement possessed them, and they said nothing to any one, for they were afraid.
  • The women fled from the tomb, trembling and bewildered, and they said nothing to anyone because they were too frightened.c

    [The most ancient manuscripts of Mark conclude with verse 16:8. Later manuscripts add one or both of the following endings.]
    [Shorter Ending of Mark]
    Then they briefly reported all this to Peter and his companions. Afterward Jesus himself sent them out from east to west with the sacred and unfailing message of salvation that gives eternal life. Amen.
    [Longer Ending of Mark]
  • Jesus Appears to Mary Magdalene

    Now when he had risen very early, the first [day] of the week, he appeared first to Mary of Magdala, out of whom he had cast seven demons.
  • After Jesus rose from the dead early on Sunday morning, the first person who saw him was Mary Magdalene, the woman from whom he had cast out seven demons.
  • *She* went and brought word to those that had been with him, [who were] grieving and weeping.
  • She went to the disciples, who were grieving and weeping, and told them what had happened.
  • And when these heard that he was alive and had been seen of her, they disbelieved [it].
  • But when she told them that Jesus was alive and she had seen him, they didn’t believe her.
  • Jesus Appears to Two Disciples

    And after these things he was manifested in another form to two of them as they walked, going into the country;
  • Afterward he appeared in a different form to two of his followers who were walking from Jerusalem into the country.
  • and *they* went and brought word to the rest; neither did they believe them.
  • They rushed back to tell the others, but no one believed them.
  • The Great Commission

    Afterwards as they lay at table he was manifested to the eleven, and reproached [them with] their unbelief and hardness of heart, because they had not believed those who had seen him risen.
  • Still later he appeared to the eleven disciples as they were eating together. He rebuked them for their stubborn unbelief because they refused to believe those who had seen him after he had been raised from the dead.d
  • And he said to them, Go into all the world, and preach the glad tidings to all the creation.
  • And then he told them, “Go into all the world and preach the Good News to everyone.
  • He that believes and is baptised shall be saved, and he that disbelieves shall be condemned.
  • Anyone who believes and is baptized will be saved. But anyone who refuses to believe will be condemned.
  • And these signs shall follow those that have believed: in my name they shall cast out demons; they shall speak with new tongues;
  • These miraculous signs will accompany those who believe: They will cast out demons in my name, and they will speak in new languages.e
  • they shall take up serpents; and if they should drink any deadly thing it shall not injure them; they shall lay hands upon the infirm, and they shall be well.
  • They will be able to handle snakes with safety, and if they drink anything poisonous, it won’t hurt them. They will be able to place their hands on the sick, and they will be healed.”
  • The Ascension

    The Lord therefore, after he had spoken to them, was taken up into heaven, and sat at the right hand of God.
  • When the Lord Jesus had finished talking with them, he was taken up into heaven and sat down in the place of honor at God’s right hand.
  • And they, going forth, preached everywhere, the Lord working with [them], and confirming the word by the signs following upon [it].
  • And the disciples went everywhere and preached, and the Lord worked through them, confirming what they said by many miraculous signs.
