The Feeding of the Four Thousand

In those days, there being again a great crowd, and they having nothing that they could eat, having called his disciples to [him], he says to them,

1

Тими днями, коли було зно́ву багато наро́ду, а їсти не мали чого́, покликав Він у́чнів Своїх та й промовив до них:

2

I have compassion on the crowd, because they have stayed with me already three days and they have not anything they can eat,

„Жаль мені тих людей, що вже три дні зо Мною знахо́дяться, та їсти не мають чого́.

3

and if I should dismiss them to their home fasting, they will faint on the way; for some of them are come from far.

А коли відпущу́ їх голодних до їхніх домівок, то осла́бнуть у дорозі, бо деякі з них поприхо́дили зда́лека“.

4

And his disciples answered him, Whence shall one be able to satisfy these with bread here in a desert place?

4

І відказали Йому Його у́чні: „Звідки зможе хто нагодувати їх хлібом отут у пустині?

5

And he asked them, How many loaves have ye? And they said, Seven.

5

А Він їх запитав: „Скільки маєте хліба?“ Вони ж повідо́мили: „Се́меро“.

6

And he commanded the crowd to sit down on the ground. And having taken the seven loaves, he gave thanks, and broke [them] and gave [them] to his disciples, that they might set [them] before [them]; and they set [them] before the crowd.

Тоді Він народу звелів на землі посідати. І, взявши се́меро хліба, віддавши подяку, Він поламав і дав учням Своїм, щоб роздати. А вони роздавали наро́дові,

And they had a few small fishes, and having blessed them, he desired these also to be set before [them].

І мали вони трохи ри́бок; і Він їх поблагословив, і роздати звелів також їх.

8

And they ate and were satisfied. And they took up of fragments that remained seven baskets.

І всі їли й наїлися, а з позосталих кусків сім коші́в назбирали.

9

And they [that had eaten] were about four thousand; and he sent them away.

9

А їдців було тисяч з чотири!

10

And immediately going on board ship with his disciples, he came into the parts of Dalmanutha.

10

І всів Він негайно до чо́вна з Своїми у́чнями, та й прибув до землі далману́тської.

11

The Pharisees Seek a Sign

And the Pharisees went out and began to dispute against him, seeking from him a sign from heaven, tempting him.

11

І вийшли фарисеї, і почали́ сперечатися з Ним, і, Його випробо́вуючи, хотіли від Нього озна́ки із неба.

12

And groaning in his spirit, he says, Why does this generation seek a sign? Verily I say unto you, A sign shall in no wise be given to this generation.

12

А Він тяжко зідхнув у Своїм дусі й промовив: „Якої ознаки цей рід вимагає? Поправді кажу́ вам, що родові цьому ознака не буде дана!“

13

And he left them, and going again on board ship, went away to the other side.

13

І покинув Він їх, усів знову до чо́вна, і на то́й бік відбу́в.

14

Leaven of the Pharisees and Herod

And they forgot to take bread, and save one loaf, they had not [any] with them in the ship.

14

І забули вони взяти хліба, і крім одно́го буханця́, у чо́вні не мали з собою нічого.

15

And he charged them, saying, Take heed, beware of the leaven of the Pharisees and [of] the leaven of Herod.

15

А Він їм наказував та говорив: „Стережіться уважливо фарисейської розчи́ни й розчини Іродової!“

16

And they reasoned with one another, [saying], It is because we have no bread.

16

Вони ж міркували й казали один до одного, що хліба не мають вони.

17

And Jesus knowing [it], says to them, Why reason ye because ye have no bread? Do ye not yet perceive nor understand? Have ye your heart [yet] hardened?

17

А Ісус, знавши те, промовляє до них: „Чого́ ви міркуєте, що хліба не маєте? Чи ви ще не знаєте й не розумієте? Чи ще маєте серце своє затверді́лим?

18

Having eyes, see ye not? and having ears, hear ye not? and do ye not remember?

18

„Мавши очі — не бачите, і мавши ву́ха — не чуєте?“ І не пам'ятаєте,

19

When I broke the five loaves for the five thousand, how many hand-baskets full of fragments took ye up? They say to him, Twelve.

коли п'ять хлібів Я ламав на п'ять тисяч, — скільки повних коші́в із кусків ви зібрали?“ Вони кажуть до Нього: „Дванадцять“.

20

And when the seven for the four thousand, the filling of how many baskets of fragments took ye up? And they said, Seven.

20

„А як сім на чотири тисячі, — скільки кошиків повних з кусків ви зібрали?“ І відказують: „Сім“.

21

And he said to them, How do ye not yet understand?

21

І сказав Він до них: „Ви ще не розумієте?“

22

A Blind Man Healed at Bethsaida

And he comes to Bethsaida; and they bring him a blind man, and beseech him that he might touch him.

22

І приходять вони в Віфсаї́ду. І приводять до Нього сліпого, і благають Його, щоб доторкну́вся до нього.

23

And taking hold of the hand of the blind man he led him forth out of the village, and having spit upon his eyes, he laid his hands upon him, and asked him if he beheld anything.

23

І взяв Він сліпого за руку, та й вивів його за село. І посли́нивши очі йому, поклав руки на нього, і питався його, чи що бачить.

24

And having looked up, he said, I behold men, for I see [them], as trees, walking.

24

І, зиркнувши, сказав той: „Я бачу людей, які ходять, немов би дере́ва“.

25

Then he laid his hands again upon his eyes, and he saw distinctly, and was restored and saw all things clearly.

25

Потім знов Він поклав Свої руки на очі йому, — і прозрі́в той, і одужав, і вира́зно став бачити все!

26

And he sent him to his house, saying, Neither enter into the village, nor tell [it] to any one in the village.

26

І послав Він додому його й наказав: „До села й не заходь, і ніко́му в селі не розповіда́й!“

27

Peter's Confession of Christ

And Jesus went forth and his disciples, into the villages of Caesarea-Philippi. And by the way he asked his disciples, saying unto them, Who do men say that I am?

27

Потому пішов Ісус й у́чні Його до сіл Кесарі́ї Пилипової, а в дорозі питав Своїх у́чнів, говорячи їм: „За кого Мене люди вважають?“

28

And they answered him, saying, John the baptist; and others, Elias; but others, One of the prophets.

28

Вони ж відповіли́ Йому, кажучи: „За Івана Христителя, другі — за Іллю́, а інші — за одно́го з пророків“.

29

And he asked them, But *ye*, who do ye say that I am? And Peter answering says to him, *Thou* art the Christ.

29

І Він запитав їх: „А ви за кого Мене маєте?“ Петро Йому в відповідь каже: „Ти — Христос!“

30

And he charged them straitly, in order that they should tell no man about him.

30

І Він заборонив їм, щоб ніко́му про Нього вони не казали!

31

Jesus Predicts His Death and Resurrection

And he began to teach them that the Son of man must suffer many things, and be rejected of the elders and of the chief priests and of the scribes, and be killed, and after three days rise [again].

31

І почав їх навчати, що Синові Лю́дському треба багато страждати, і Його відцураються старші, і первосвященики, і книжники, і Він буде вбитий, — але третього дня Він воскресне.

32

And he spoke the thing openly. And Peter, taking him to [him], began to rebuke him.

32

І те слово казав Він відкрито. А Петро узяв на́бік Його, і Йому́ став перечити.

33

But he, turning round and seeing his disciples, rebuked Peter, saying, Get away behind me, Satan, for thy mind is not on the things that are of God, but on the things that are of men.

33

А Він обернувся й поглянув на у́чнів Своїх, та й Петру докори́в і сказав: „Відступись, сатано, від Мене, бо ду́маєш ти не про Боже, а про лю́дське!“

34

Take up Your Cross

And having called the crowd with his disciples, he said to them, Whoever desires to come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross and follow me.

34

І Він покликав народ із Своїми у́чнями, та й промовив до них: „Коли хоче хто йти вслід за Мною, хай зречеться самого себе, і хай ві́зьме свого хреста та й за Мною йде!

35

For whosoever shall desire to save his life shall lose it, but whosoever shall lose his life for my sake and the gospel's shall save it.

35

Бо хто хоче душу свою́ зберегти, той погубить її, а хто згубить душу свою ради Мене та Єва́нгелії, той її збереже.

36

For what shall it profit a man if he gain the whole world and suffer the loss of his soul?

36

Яка ж ко́ристь люди́ні, що здобу́де ввесь світ, але душу свою занапа́стить?

37

for what should a man give in exchange for his soul?

37

Або що́ назамі́н дасть люди́на за душу свою?

38

For whosoever shall be ashamed of me and of my words in this adulterous and sinful generation, of him shall the Son of man also be ashamed when he shall come in the glory of his Father with the holy angels.

38

Бо хто буде Мене та Моєї науки соро́митися в роді цім перелю́бнім та грішнім, того посоро́миться також Син Лю́дський, як при́йде у славі Свого Отця з ангола́ми святими“.
