The Feeding of the Four Thousand

In those days, there being again a great crowd, and they having nothing that they could eat, having called his disciples to [him], he says to them,

У ті дні, як знову зібралося дуже багато людей і не мали що їсти, Він покликав учнів і каже їм:

2

I have compassion on the crowd, because they have stayed with me already three days and they have not anything they can eat,

Жаль Мені людей, бо вже три дні перебувають зі Мною, і не мають що їсти;

3

and if I should dismiss them to their home fasting, they will faint on the way; for some of them are come from far.

3

якщо Я відпущу їх голодними додому, вони ослабнуть у дорозі, бо деякі з них прийшли здалека.

4

And his disciples answered him, Whence shall one be able to satisfy these with bread here in a desert place?

4

Та Його учні відповіли Йому: Звідкіля в цій пустелі хтось зможе їх нагодувати хлібом?

5

And he asked them, How many loaves have ye? And they said, Seven.

5

А Він запитав їх: Скільки маєте хлібів? Вони ж відповіли: Сім.

6

And he commanded the crowd to sit down on the ground. And having taken the seven loaves, he gave thanks, and broke [them] and gave [them] to his disciples, that they might set [them] before [them]; and they set [them] before the crowd.

І звелів Ісус людям посідати на землю і, взявши сім хлібів, віддав подяку, переломив і дав Своїм учням, щоб роздавали. І роздали людям.

7

And they had a few small fishes, and having blessed them, he desired these also to be set before [them].

Мали вони також трохи риби. Він її поблагословив і сказав також роздати.

8

And they ate and were satisfied. And they took up of fragments that remained seven baskets.

8

І вони поїли й наситилися; і зібрали сім кошиків залишених кусків.

9

And they [that had eaten] were about four thousand; and he sent them away.

9

А було їх близько чотирьох тисяч. І Він відпустив їх.

10

And immediately going on board ship with his disciples, he came into the parts of Dalmanutha.

10

І відразу, сівши з учнями в човен, Він прибув до Далманутської землі.

The Pharisees Seek a Sign

And the Pharisees went out and began to dispute against him, seeking from him a sign from heaven, tempting him.

11

Вийшли фарисеї і почали сперечатися з Ним, вимагаючи ознаки з неба, щоб випробувати Його.

12

And groaning in his spirit, he says, Why does this generation seek a sign? Verily I say unto you, A sign shall in no wise be given to this generation.

Зітхнувши Своїм духом, Він каже: Чому оцей рід ознаки шукає? Запевняю вас, що не буде дано цьому родові ознаки!

13

And he left them, and going again on board ship, went away to the other side.

Залишивши їх, Він сів знову [в човен] і вирушив на другий бік.

Leaven of the Pharisees and Herod

And they forgot to take bread, and save one loaf, they had not [any] with them in the ship.

14

Та забули вони взяти хліб і, крім однієї хлібини, не мали нічого із собою в човні.

15

And he charged them, saying, Take heed, beware of the leaven of the Pharisees and [of] the leaven of Herod.

15

І Він застерігав їх, кажучи: Глядіть, стережіться закваски фарисейської та закваски Іродової.

16

And they reasoned with one another, [saying], It is because we have no bread.

16

А вони почали перемовлятися між собою, що хліба не мають.

17

And Jesus knowing [it], says to them, Why reason ye because ye have no bread? Do ye not yet perceive nor understand? Have ye your heart [yet] hardened?

17

Знаючи це, Він каже їм: Чому думаєте, що хліба не маєте? Хіба й досі не збагнули, чи ще не розумієте? Чи ваше серце все ще скам’яніле?

18

Having eyes, see ye not? and having ears, hear ye not? and do ye not remember?

18

Маючи очі, не бачите, маючи вуха, не чуєте? Хіба не пам’ятаєте,

19

When I broke the five loaves for the five thousand, how many hand-baskets full of fragments took ye up? They say to him, Twelve.

коли п’ять хлібів Я розділив на п’ять тисяч, то скільки повних кошиків кусків зібрали? Кажуть Йому: Дванадцять.

20

And when the seven for the four thousand, the filling of how many baskets of fragments took ye up? And they said, Seven.

20

А як сім — на чотири тисячі, то скільки повних кошиків кусків зібрали? І вони кажуть: Сім.

21

And he said to them, How do ye not yet understand?

21

Тоді Він каже їм: Ви ще не розумієте?

22

A Blind Man Healed at Bethsaida

And he comes to Bethsaida; and they bring him a blind man, and beseech him that he might touch him.

22

І приходять вони до Витсаїди. І приводять до Нього сліпого, благаючи, щоби доторкнувся до нього.

23

And taking hold of the hand of the blind man he led him forth out of the village, and having spit upon his eyes, he laid his hands upon him, and asked him if he beheld anything.

23

І, взявши сліпого за руку, Він вивів його за село, послинив йому очі, поклав руки на нього й запитав: Щось бачиш?

24

And having looked up, he said, I behold men, for I see [them], as trees, walking.

24

Поглянувши, той каже: Бачу людей… бачу, мов дерева ходять.

25

Then he laid his hands again upon his eyes, and he saw distinctly, and was restored and saw all things clearly.

25

Потім Він знову поклав руки на його очі — і тоді той прозрів, одужав і побачив усе виразно.

26

And he sent him to his house, saying, Neither enter into the village, nor tell [it] to any one in the village.

26

І Він відіслав його додому, кажучи: До села не заходь, [не розповідай нікому в селі].

Peter's Confession of Christ

And Jesus went forth and his disciples, into the villages of Caesarea-Philippi. And by the way he asked his disciples, saying unto them, Who do men say that I am?

27

І пішов Ісус з учнями до сіл Кесарії Филипової і дорогою розпитував Своїх учнів, говорячи їм: За кого Мене люди вважають?

28

And they answered him, saying, John the baptist; and others, Elias; but others, One of the prophets.

28

А вони у відповідь сказали, що одні — за Івана Хрестителя, інші — за Іллю, ще інші — за одного з пророків.

29

And he asked them, But *ye*, who do ye say that I am? And Peter answering says to him, *Thou* art the Christ.

29

І ще запитав їх: А ви ж за кого Мене вважаєте? Обізвався Петро, та й каже Йому: Ти — Христос.

30

And he charged them straitly, in order that they should tell no man about him.

30

Тоді суворо наказав їм, щоб нікому не розповідали про Нього.

31

Jesus Predicts His Death and Resurrection

And he began to teach them that the Son of man must suffer many things, and be rejected of the elders and of the chief priests and of the scribes, and be killed, and after three days rise [again].

31

І Він почав їх навчати, що Людському Синові треба буде багато постраждати, і відцураються від Нього старші, первосвященики та книжники; і вб’ють Його, але через три дні Він воскресне.

32

And he spoke the thing openly. And Peter, taking him to [him], began to rebuke him.

32

І слово говорив Він відверто. А Петро відкликав Його вбік і почав перечити Йому.

33

But he, turning round and seeing his disciples, rebuked Peter, saying, Get away behind me, Satan, for thy mind is not on the things that are of God, but on the things that are of men.

33

А Він, обернувшись і поглянувши на учнів Своїх, докірливо сказав Петрові: Іди геть від Мене, сатано, бо не думаєш про те, що Боже, а про те, що людське!

34

Take up Your Cross

And having called the crowd with his disciples, he said to them, Whoever desires to come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross and follow me.

34

І, покликавши людей та Своїх учнів, сказав їм: Хто хоче йти за Мною, нехай зречеться себе самого, візьме свій хрест і йде за Мною.

35

For whosoever shall desire to save his life shall lose it, but whosoever shall lose his life for my sake and the gospel's shall save it.

35

Адже коли хто хоче душу свою спасти, той погубить її, а хто погубить свою душу задля Мене і Євангелія, той спасе її.

36

For what shall it profit a man if he gain the whole world and suffer the loss of his soul?

36

Бо яка користь людині, якщо придбає весь світ, але занапастить душу свою?

37

for what should a man give in exchange for his soul?

37

Або що дасть людина взамін за душу свою?

38

For whosoever shall be ashamed of me and of my words in this adulterous and sinful generation, of him shall the Son of man also be ashamed when he shall come in the glory of his Father with the holy angels.

38

Бо коли хто посоромиться Мене і Моїх слів перед цим перелюбним і грішним родом, того і Син Людський посоромиться, коли прийде в славі Свого Отця з ангелами святими!
