Jesus Sends Out the Seventy-Two

Now after these things the Lord appointed seventy others also, and sent them two and two before his face into every city and place where he himself was about to come.

1

Після того призна́чив Господь і інших Сімдеся́т, і послав їх по двох перед Себе до кожного міста та місця, куди Сам мав іти.

2

And he said to them, The harvest indeed [is] great, but the workmen few; supplicate therefore the Lord of the harvest that he may send out workmen into his harvest.

2

І промовив до них: „Хоч жни́во велике, та робі́тників мало; тож благайте Господаря жни́ва, щоб робі́тників вислав на жни́во Своє.

3

Go: behold *I* send you forth as lambs in the midst of wolves.

3

Ідіть! Оце посилаю Я вас, як ягнят між вовки́.

4

Carry neither purse nor scrip nor sandals, and salute no one on the way.

4

Не носіть ні кали́тки, ні торби, ні санда́ль, і не вітайте в дорозі ніко́го.

5

And into whatsoever house ye enter, first say, Peace to this house.

5

Як до дому ж якого ви вві́йдете, то найперше кажіть: „Мир дому цьому́!“

6

And if a son of peace be there, your peace shall rest upon it; but if not it shall turn to you again.

І коли син миру там буде, то спочи́не на ньому ваш мир, коли ж ні — до вас ве́рнеться.

7

And in the same house abide, eating and drinking such things as they have; for the workman is worthy of his hire. Remove not from house to house.

7

Зоставайтеся ж у домі тім самім, споживайте та пийте, що є в них, — бо вартий робі́тник своєї заплати. Не ходіть з дому в дім.

8

And into whatsoever city ye may enter and they receive you, eat what is set before you,

А як при́йдете в місто яке, і вас при́ймуть, — споживайте, що вам подадуть.

9

and heal the sick in it, and say to them, The kingdom of God is come nigh to you.

9

Уздоро́влюйте хворих, що в нім, промовляйте до них: „Набли́зилося Царство Боже до вас!“

10

But into whatsoever city ye may have entered and they do not receive you, go out into its streets and say,

А як при́йдете в місто яке, і вас не приймуть, то вийдіть на вулиці його та й кажіть:

11

Even the dust of your city, which cleaves to us on the feet, do we shake off against you; but know this, that the kingdom of God is come nigh.

11

„Ми обтру́шуємо вам навіть порох, що прилип до нас із вашого міста. Та знайте оце, що набли́зилося Ца́рство Боже!“

12

I say to you that it shall be more tolerable for Sodom in that day than for that city.

12

Кажу вам: того дня легше буде содо́млянам, аніж місту тому́!“

13

Woe to the Unrepentant

Woe to thee, Chorazin! woe to thee, Bethsaida! for if the works of power which have taken place in you had taken place in Tyre and Sidon, they had long ago repented, sitting in sackcloth and ashes.

„Горе тобі, Хоразі́не, горе тобі, Віфсаїдо! Бо коли б то у Тирі й Сидоні були відбули́ся ті чу́да, що сталися в вас, то давно б вони покаялися в волосяни́ці та в попелі!

14

But it shall be more tolerable for Tyre and Sidon in the judgment than for you.

14

Але на суді відрадніш буде Тиру й Сидону, як вам.

15

And *thou*, Capernaum, who hast been raised up to heaven, shalt be brought down even to hades.

15

А ти, Капернау́ме, що „до неба піднісся, — аж до аду ти зійдеш!“

16

He that hears you hears me; and he that rejects you rejects me; and he that rejects me rejects him that sent me.

16

Хто слухає вас — Мене слухає, хто ж погорджує вами — погорджує Мною, хто ж погорджує Мною — погорджує Тим, Хто послав Мене“.

17

The Seventy-Two Return with Joy

And the seventy returned with joy, saying, Lord, even the demons are subject to us through thy name.

17

А ті Сімдеся́т повернулися з радістю, кажучи: „Господи, — навіть де́мони ко́ряться нам у Ім'я́ Твоє!“

18

And he said to them, I beheld Satan as lightning falling out of heaven.

18

Він же промовив до них: „Я бачив того сатану, що з неба спадав, немов блискавка.

19

Behold, I give you the power of treading upon serpents and scorpions and over all the power of the enemy, and nothing shall in anywise injure you.

19

Ось Я вла́ду вам дав наступати на змій та скорпіо́нів, і на всю силу ворожу, — і ніщо вам не зашко́дить.

20

Yet in this rejoice not, that the spirits are subjected to you, but rejoice that your names are written in the heavens.

20

Та не тіштеся тим, що вам ко́ряться духи, але тіштесь, що ваші ймення записані в небі!“

21

Jesus' Prayer of Thanksgiving

In the same hour Jesus rejoiced in spirit and said, I praise thee, Father, Lord of the heaven and of the earth, that thou hast hid these things from wise and prudent, and hast revealed them to babes: yea, Father, for thus has it been well-pleasing in thy sight.

Того ча́су Ісус звеселився був Духом Святим і промовив: „Прославляю Тебе, Отче, Господи неба й землі, що втаїв Ти оце від премудрих і розумних, та його немовлятам відкрив. Так, Отче, бо Тобі так було до вподоби!

22

All things have been delivered to me by my Father, and no one knows who the Son is but the Father, and who the Father is but the Son, and he to whomsoever the Son is pleased to reveal [him].

Передав Мені все Мій Отець. І не знає ніхто, хто є Син, — тільки Отець, і хто Отець — тільки Син, та кому Син захоче відкрити“.

23

And having turned to the disciples privately he said, Blessed are the eyes which see the things that ye see.

23

І, звернувшись до учнів, наодинці їм сказав: „Блаженні ті очі, що бачать, що́ бачите ви!

24

For I say to you that many prophets and kings have desired to see the things which ye behold, and did not see [them]; and to hear the things which ye hear, and did not hear [them].

24

Кажу ж вам, що багато пророків і царів бажали побачити, що бачите ви — та й не бачили, і почути, що́ чуєте ви — і не чули!“

25

The Parable of the Good Samaritan

And behold, a certain lawyer stood up tempting him, and saying, Teacher, having done what, shall I inherit life eternal?

25

І підвівсь ось зако́нник один, і сказав, Його випробо́вуючи: „Учителю, що́ робити мені, щоб вічне життя осягну́ти?“

26

And he said to him, What is written in the law? how readest thou?

26

Він же йому відказав: „Що́ в Зако́ні написано, як ти читаєш?“

27

But he answering said, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy strength, and with all thine understanding; and thy neighbour as thyself.

27

А той відповів і сказав: „Люби Господа Бога свого́ всім серцем своїм, і всією душею своєю, і всією силою своєю, і всім своїм розумом“, і свого ближнього, як само́го себе“.

28

And he said to him, Thou hast answered right: this do and thou shalt live.

28

Він же йому́ відказав: „Правильно ти відповів. Роби це, — і будеш жити“.

29

But he, desirous of justifying himself, said to Jesus, And who is my neighbour?

29

А той бажав сам себе ви́правдати, та й сказав до Ісуса: „А хто то мій ближній?“

30

And Jesus replying said, A certain man descended from Jerusalem to Jericho and fell into [the hands of] robbers, who also, having stripped him and inflicted wounds, went away leaving him in a half-dead state.

30

А Ісус відповів і промовив: „Один чоловік ішов з Єрусалиму до Єрихо́ну, і попався розбійникам, що обдерли його, і завдали́ йому рани, та й утекли́, покинувши ле́две живого його́.

31

And a certain priest happened to go down that way, and seeing him, passed on on the opposite side;

Прохо́див випа́дком тією дорогою священик один, побачив його, — і проминув.

32

and in like manner also a Levite, being at the spot, came and looked [at him] and passed on on the opposite side.

32

Так само й Левит надійшов на те місце, поглянув, — і теж проминув.

33

But a certain Samaritan journeying came to him, and seeing [him], was moved with compassion,

Прохо́див же там якийсь самаряни́н, та й натра́пив на нього, і, побачивши, змилосе́рдився.

34

and came up [to him] and bound up his wounds, pouring in oil and wine; and having put him on his own beast, took him to [the] inn and took care of him.

34

І він підійшов, і обв'язав йому рани, наливши оливи й вина. Потому його посадив на худо́бину власну, і приставив його до гостиниці, та й клопота́вся про нього.

35

And on the morrow [as he left], taking out two denarii he gave them to the innkeeper, and said to him, Take care of him, and whatsoever thou shalt expend more, *I* will render to thee on my coming back.

35

А другого дня, від'їжджавши, вийняв він два динарії, та й дав їх госпо́дареві й проказав: „Заопікуйся ним, а як більше що витратиш, — заплачу́ тобі, як верну́ся“.

36

Which [now] of these three seems to thee to have been neighbour of him who fell into [the hands of] the robbers?

36

Котри́й же з цих трьох — на думку твою — був ближній тому, хто попався розбійникам?“

37

And he said, He that shewed him mercy. And Jesus said to him, Go, and do *thou* likewise.

37

А він відказав: „Той, хто вчинив йому ми́лість“. Ісус же сказав йому: „Іди, — і роби так і ти!“

38

Martha and Mary

And it came to pass as they went that *he* entered into a certain village; and a certain woman, Martha by name, received him into her house.

38

І сталось, коли вони йшли, Він прийшов до одно́го села. Одна ж жінка, Марта їй на ім'я́, прийняла Його в дім свій.

39

And she had a sister called Mary, who also, having sat down at the feet of Jesus was listening to his word.

39

Була ж в неї сестра, що звалась Марія; вона сіла в ногах у Ісуса, та й слухала сло́ва Його.

40

Now Martha was distracted with much serving, and coming up she said, Lord, dost thou not care that my sister has left me to serve alone? Speak to her therefore that she may help me.

40

А Марта великою по́слугою клопота́лась, а спинившись, сказала: „Господи, чи байду́же Тобі, що на мене саму́ полишила служити сестра моя? Скажи ж їй, щоб мені помогла“.

41

But Jesus answering said to her, Martha, Martha, thou art careful and troubled about many things;

41

Госпо́дь же промовив у відповідь їй: „Марто, Марто, — турбуєшся й жу́ришся ти про багато чого́,

42

but there is need of one, and Mary has chosen the good part, the which shall not be taken from her.

42

а потрібне одне. Марія ж обрала найкращу ча́стку, яка не відбереться від неї“.
