Darby Bible Translation

New King James Version

  • A Call to Repentance

Now at the same time there were present some who told him of the Galileans whose blood Pilate mingled with [that of] their sacrifices.
  • Repent or Perish

There were present at that season some who told Him about the Galileans whose blood Pilate had [a]mingled with their sacrifices.
  • And he answering said to them, Think ye that these Galileans were sinners beyond all the Galileans because they suffered such things?
  • And Jesus answered and said to them, “Do you suppose that these Galileans were worse sinners than all other Galileans, because they suffered such things?
  • No, I say to you, but if ye repent not, ye shall all perish in the same manner.
  • I tell you, no; but unless you repent you will all likewise perish.
  • Or those eighteen on whom the tower in Siloam fell and killed them, think ye that *they* were debtors beyond all the men who dwell in Jerusalem?
  • Or those eighteen on whom the tower in Siloam fell and killed them, do you think that they were worse sinners than all other men who dwelt in Jerusalem?
  • No, I say to you, but if ye repent not, ye shall all perish in like manner.
  • I tell you, no; but unless you repent you will all likewise perish.”
  • The Parable of the Barren Fig Tree

And he spoke this parable: A certain [man] had a fig-tree planted in his vineyard, and he came seeking fruit upon it and did not find [any].
  • The Parable of the Barren Fig Tree

He also spoke this parable: “A certain man had a fig tree planted in his vineyard, and he came seeking fruit on it and found none.
  • And he said to the vinedresser, Behold, [these] three years I come seeking fruit on this fig-tree and find none: cut it down; why does it also render the ground useless?
  • Then he said to the keeper of his vineyard, ‘Look, for three years I have come seeking fruit on this fig tree and find none. Cut it down; why does it [b]use up the ground?’
  • But he answering says to him, Sir, let it alone for this year also, until I shall dig about it and put dung,
  • But he answered and said to him, ‘Sir, let it alone this year also, until I dig around it and fertilize it.
  • and if it shall bear fruit -- but if not, after that thou shalt cut it down.
  • [c]And if it bears fruit, well. But if not, after that you can cut it down.’ ”
  • Jesus Heals a Woman on the Sabbath

And he was teaching in one of the synagogues on the sabbath.
  • A Spirit of Infirmity

Now He was teaching in one of the synagogues on the Sabbath.
  • And lo, [there was] a woman having a spirit of infirmity eighteen years, and she was bent together and wholly unable to lift her head up.
  • And behold, there was a woman who had a spirit of infirmity eighteen years, and was bent over and could in no way [d]raise herself up.
  • And Jesus, seeing her, called to [her], and said to her, Woman, thou art loosed from thine infirmity.
  • But when Jesus saw her, He called her to Him and said to her, “Woman, you are loosed from your infirmity.”
  • And he laid his hands upon her; and immediately she was made straight, and glorified God.
  • And He laid His hands on her, and immediately she was made straight, and glorified God.
  • But the ruler of the synagogue, indignant because Jesus healed on the sabbath, answering said to the crowd, There are six days in which [people] ought to work; in these therefore come and be healed, and not on the sabbath day.
  • But the ruler of the synagogue answered with indignation, because Jesus had healed on the Sabbath; and he said to the crowd, “There are six days on which men ought to work; therefore come and be healed on them, and not on the Sabbath day.”
  • The Lord therefore answered him and said, Hypocrites! does not each one of you on the sabbath loose his ox or his ass from the manger and leading [it] away, water [it]?
  • The Lord then answered him and said, [e]“Hypocrite! Does not each one of you on the Sabbath loose his ox or donkey from the stall, and lead it away to water it?
  • And this [woman], who is a daughter of Abraham, whom Satan has bound, lo, [these] eighteen years, ought she not to be loosed from this bond on the sabbath day?
  • So ought not this woman, being a daughter of Abraham, whom Satan has bound — think of it — for eighteen years, be loosed from this bond on the Sabbath?”
  • And as he said these things, all who were opposed to him were ashamed; and all the crowd rejoiced at all the glorious things which were being done by him.
  • And when He said these things, all His adversaries were put to shame; and all the multitude rejoiced for all the glorious things that were done by Him.
  • The Parable of the Mustard Seed

And he said, To what is the kingdom of God like? and to what shall I liken it?
  • The Parable of the Mustard Seed

Then He said, “What is the kingdom of God like? And to what shall I compare it?
  • It is like a grain of mustard [seed] which a man took and cast into his garden; and it grew and became a great tree, and the birds of heaven lodged in its branches.
  • It is like a mustard seed, which a man took and put in his garden; and it grew and became a [f]large tree, and the birds of the air nested in its branches.”
  • The Parable of the Leaven

And again he said, To what shall I liken the kingdom of God?
  • The Parable of the Leaven

And again He said, “To what shall I liken the kingdom of God?
  • It is like leaven, which a woman took and hid in three measures of meal until the whole was leavened.
  • It is like [g]leaven, which a woman took and hid in three measures[h] of meal till it was all leavened.”
  • The Narrow Gate

And he went through one city and village after another, teaching, and journeying to Jerusalem.
  • The Narrow Way

And He went through the cities and villages, teaching, and journeying toward Jerusalem.
  • And one said to him, Sir, [are] such as are to be saved few in number? But he said unto them,
  • Then one said to Him, “Lord, are there few who are saved?”
    And He said to them,
  • Strive with earnestness to enter in through the narrow door, for many, I say to you, will seek to enter in and will not be able.
  • “Strive to enter through the narrow gate, for many, I say to you, will seek to enter and will not be able.
  • From the time that the master of the house shall have risen up and shall have shut the door, and ye shall begin to stand without and to knock at the door, saying, Lord, open to us; and he answering shall say to you, I know you not whence ye are:
  • When once the Master of the house has risen up and shut the door, and you begin to stand outside and knock at the door, saying, ‘Lord, Lord, open for us,’ and He will answer and say to you, ‘I do not know you, where you are from,’
  • then shall ye begin to say, We have eaten in thy presence and drunk, and thou hast taught in our streets;
  • then you will begin to say, ‘We ate and drank in Your presence, and You taught in our streets.’
  • and he shall say, I tell you, I do not know you whence ye are; depart from me, all [ye] workers of iniquity.
  • But He will say, ‘I tell you I do not know you, where you are from. Depart from Me, all you workers of iniquity.’
  • There shall be the weeping and the gnashing of teeth, when ye shall see Abraham and Isaac and Jacob and all the prophets in the kingdom of God, but yourselves cast out.
  • There will be weeping and gnashing of teeth, when you see Abraham and Isaac and Jacob and all the prophets in the kingdom of God, and yourselves thrust out.
  • And they shall come from east and west, and from north and south, and shall lie down at table in the kingdom of God.
  • They will come from the east and the west, from the north and the south, and sit down in the kingdom of God.
  • And behold, there are last who shall be first, and there are first who shall be last.
  • And indeed there are last who will be first, and there are first who will be last.”
  • Lament over Jerusalem

The same hour certain Pharisees came up, saying to him, Get out, and go hence, for Herod is desirous to kill thee.
  • [i]On that very day some Pharisees came, saying to Him, “Get out and depart from here, for Herod wants to kill You.”
  • And he said to them, Go, tell that fox, Behold, I cast out demons and accomplish cures to-day and to-morrow, and the third [day] I am perfected;
  • And He said to them, “Go, tell that fox, ‘Behold, I cast out demons and perform cures today and tomorrow, and the third day I shall be [j]perfected.’
  • but I must needs walk to-day and to-morrow and the [day] following, for it must not be that a prophet perish out of Jerusalem.
  • Nevertheless I must journey today, tomorrow, and the day following; for it cannot be that a prophet should perish outside of Jerusalem.
  • Jerusalem, Jerusalem, the [city] that kills the prophets and stones those that are sent unto her, how often would I have gathered thy children together, as a hen her brood under her wings, and ye would not.
  • Jesus Laments over Jerusalem

“O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, the one who kills the prophets and stones those who are sent to her! How often I wanted to gather your children together, as a hen gathers her brood under her wings, but you were not willing!
  • Behold, your house is left unto you; and I say unto you, that ye shall not see me until it come that ye say, Blessed [is] he that comes in the name of [the] Lord.
  • See! Your house is left to you desolate; and [k]assuredly, I say to you, you shall not see Me until the time comes when you say, ‘Blessed is He who comes in the name of the Lord!’ ”
