Temptations and Trespasses

And he said to his disciples, It cannot be but that offences come, but woe [to him] by whom they come!

Ісус сказав Своїм учням: «Спокуси, що кидають людину в гріх, завжди існуватимуть. Але горе тому, через кого вони приходять!

2

It would be [more] profitable for him if a millstone were hanged about his neck and he cast into the sea, than that he should be a snare to one of these little ones.

Та якщо хтось введе в гріх одного з малих оцих, які вірують в Мене, то краще було б для нього, щоб почепили йому на шию жорно і втопили в морі.

3

Take heed to yourselves: if thy brother should sin, rebuke him; and if he should repent, forgive him.

3

Пильнуйте себе! Якщо брат твій грішить, вкажи йому на те. І якщо він покається, прости його.

4

And if he should sin against thee seven times in the day, and seven times should return to thee, saying, I repent, thou shalt forgive him.

Якщо ж він грішить проти тебе сім разів на день і сім разів повертаєтсья до тебе й каже: „Я каюся” — прости його».

The Power of Faith

And the apostles said to the Lord, Give more faith to us.

Тоді апостоли попросили Господа: «Дай нам більше віри!»

But the Lord said, If ye have faith as a grain of mustard [seed], ye had said to this sycamine tree, Be thou rooted up, and be thou planted in the sea, and it would have obeyed you.

На те відповів Господь: «Якби ваша віра була завбільшки з гірчичне зернятко, ви могли б сказати цій шовковиці: „Вирви коріння своє з землі й переселися в море” — і вона послухалася б вас».

But which of you [is there] who, having a bondman ploughing or shepherding, when he comes in out of the field, will say, Come and lie down immediately to table?

«Уявіть, що ви маєте раба, який обробляє землю або доглядає овець. Коли він з поля повертається додому, чи скажете ви йому: „Негайно іди і сідай поїж?”

8

But will he not say to him, Prepare what I shall sup on, and gird thyself and serve me that I may eat and drink; and after that *thou* shalt eat and drink?

Чи ви не скажете: „Приготуй вечерю, вдягни фартух і прислужи мені, поки я їм та п’ю, а потім і сам можеш поїсти й попити?”

Is he thankful to the bondman because he has done what was ordered? I judge not.

Чи подякуєте ви слузі за те, що він виконує ваші накази?

10

Thus *ye* also, when ye shall have done all things that have been ordered you, say, We are unprofitable bondmen; we have done what it was our duty to do.

Так само й з вами: коли ви виконали те, що вам було доручено, скажіть собі: „Ми слуги, котрі не заслуговують ніякої подяки. Ми лише виконували свій обов’язок”».

Jesus Heals Ten Lepers

And it came to pass as he was going up to Jerusalem, that he passed through the midst of Samaria and Galilee.

По дорозі до Єрусалиму Ісус мандрував уздовж кордону між Самарією та Ґалилеєю.

And as he entered into a certain village ten leprous men met him, who stood afar off.

12-13

Коли Він увійшов в одне з селищ, Його зустріли десять чоловік хворих на проказу. Вони стояли віддалік і голосно гукали: «Ісусе, Володарю, змилуйся над нами!»

And they lifted up [their] voice saying, Jesus, Master, have compassion on us.

14

And seeing [them] he said to them, Go, shew yourselves to the priests. And it came to pass as they were going they were cleansed.

Побачивши їх, Ісус наказав: «Підіть і покажіться священикам[57]». І поки ті десятеро йшли, вони цілком очистилися.

15

And one of them, seeing that he was cured, turned back, glorifying God with a loud voice,

Та один із них, коли побачив, що він зцілений, повернувся й голосно славив Бога.

16

and fell on [his] face at his feet giving him thanks: and *he* was a Samaritan.

Він простягся долілиць біля Ісусових ніг і дякував Йому. Він був самаритянином.

17

And Jesus answering said, Were not the ten cleansed? but the nine, where [are they]?

17

У відповідь Ісус запитав: «Хіба не десятеро очистилися? Де ті дев’ятеро?

18

There have not been found to return and give glory to God save this stranger.

18

Невже жоден із них, крім цього іноземця, не повернувся віддати дяку Богові?»

19

And he said to him, Rise up and go thy way: thy faith has made thee well.

19

І сказав йому Ісус: «Підведися і йди. Твоя віра зцілила тебе».

20

The Coming of the Kingdom

And having been asked by the Pharisees, When is the kingdom of God coming? he answered them and said, The kingdom of God does not come with observation;

20

Одного разу фарисеї запитали Ісуса, коли прийде Царство Боже. І Він відповів: «Царство Боже не приходить так, щоб усі його помітили.

21

nor shall they say, Lo here, or, Lo there; for behold, the kingdom of God is in the midst of you.

21

Ніхто не зможе сказати: „Воно тут!” або „Воно там!” — оскільки Царство Боже — з вами[58]».

22

And he said to the disciples, Days are coming, when ye shall desire to see one of the days of the Son of man, and shall not see [it].

22

А учням Своїм Він сказав: «Настане час, коли ви прагнутимете побачити хоча б один із днів Сина Людського, коли Він буде у всій Своїй Славі, але не побачите.

23

And they will say to you, Lo here, or Lo there; go not, nor follow [them].

23

І дехто казатиме вам: „Погляньте туди!” або „Погляньте сюди!” Не ходіть туди і не йдіть за ними.

24

For as the lightning shines which lightens from [one end] under heaven to [the other end] under heaven, thus shall the Son of man be in his day.

24

Коли Син Людський прийде, кожний знатиме про Його пришестя. Він сяятиме, подібно спалаху блискавки, яка розтинає небо світлом із краю в край.

25

But first he must suffer many things and be rejected of this generation.

25

Але спершу Він мусить витерпіти багато і буде відкинутий цим поколінням.

26

And as it took place in the days of Noe, thus also shall it be in the days of the Son of man:

26

Як це було за часів Ноя, так буде і в годину пришестя Сина Людського.

27

they ate, they drank, they married, they were given in marriage, until the day that Noe entered into the ark, and the flood came and destroyed all [of them];

27

Тоді люди їли, пили, одружувалися, аж до того дня, доки Ной не ввійшов в свій ковчег.[59] Тоді настав потоп і їх усіх знищив.

28

and in like manner as took place in the days of Lot: they ate, they drank, they bought, they sold, they planted, they builded;

28

Це буде так само, як було в часи Лота.[60] Тоді люди їли, пили, купували, продавали, саджали дерева і зводили будинки.

29

but on the day that Lot went out from Sodom, it rained fire and sulphur from heaven, and destroyed all [of them]:

after this [manner] shall it be in the day that the Son of man is revealed.

30

І станеться так само в час пришестя Сина Людського.

31

In that day, he who shall be on the housetop, and his stuff in the house, let him not go down to take it away; and he that is in the field, let him likewise not return back.

31

Хто сидітиме в той день на даху своєї оселі, а речі його будуть у домі, не повинен спускатися по свої пожитки. Так само, якщо хтось працюватиме в полі, хай не вертається додому.

Remember the wife of Lot.

Whosoever shall seek to save his life shall lose it, and whosoever shall lose it shall preserve it.

33

Хто намагатиметься врятувати своє життя, втратить його, але ж той, хто віддасть життя за Мене, врятує його.

34

I say to you, In that night there shall be two [men] upon one bed; one shall be seized and the other shall be let go.

34

Повірте, в ту ніч двоє лежатимуть в одному ліжку: одного (або одну) з них буде взято, а другий (друга) залишиться.

35

Two [women] shall be grinding together; the one shall be seized and the other shall be let go.

35

Дві жінки разом молотимуть зерно на жорнах: одну з них буде взято, а друга залишиться.

36

[Two men shall be in the field; the one shall be seized and the other let go.]

36

[Двоє чоловіків працюватимуть у полі: одного з них буде взято, а другий залишиться».] [62]

And answering they say to him, Where, Lord? And he said to them, Where the body [is], there the eagles will be gathered together.
