The Plot to Kill Jesus

Now the feast of unleavened bread, which [is] called the passover, drew nigh,

Наближа́лося ж свято Опрі́сноків, що Па́схою зветься.

2

and the chief priests and the scribes sought how they might kill him; for they feared the people.

2

А первосвященики й книжники стали шукати, я́к би вбити Його, та боялись наро́ду.

3

And Satan entered into Judas, who was surnamed Iscariote, being of the number of the twelve.

3

Сатана ж увійшов у Юду, зва́ного Іскаріо́т, одно́го з Дванадцятьо́х.

4

And he went away and spoke with the chief priests and captains as to how he should deliver him up to them.

4

І він пішов, і почав умовлятися з первосвящениками та начальниками, я́к він видасть Його.

5

And they were rejoiced, and agreed to give him money.

5

Ті ж зраділи, і погодилися дати йому срібнякі́в.

6

And he came to an agreement to do it, and sought an opportunity to deliver him up to them away from the crowd.

І він обіцяв, і шукав відповідного ча́су, щоб їм видати Його без наро́ду.

The Last Supper

And the day of unleavened bread came, in which the passover was to be killed.

7

І настав день Опрі́сноків, коли пасху прино́сити в жертву нале́жало.

8

And he sent Peter and John, saying, Go and prepare the passover for us, that we may eat [it].

8

І послав Він Петра та Івана, говорячи: „Підіть, і приготуйте нам пасху, щоб її спожили́ ми“.

9

But they said to him, Where wilt thou that we prepare [it]?

9

А вони запитали Його: „Де́ Ти хочеш, щоб ми приготува́ли?“

10

And he said to them, Behold, as ye enter into the city a man will meet you, carrying an earthen pitcher of water; follow him into the house where he goes in;

10

А Він їм відказав: „Ось, як бу́дете вхо́дити в місто, стріне вас чоловік, воду несучи у глекові, — ідіть за ним аж до дому, куди він уві́йде.

11

and ye shall say to the master of the house, The Teacher says to thee, Where is the guest-chamber where I may eat the passover with my disciples?

11

І скажіть до госпо́даря дому: Учитель питає тебе: „Де кімна́та, в якій споживу́ зо Своїми учнями пасху?“

12

And *he* will shew you a large upper room furnished: there make ready.

12

I він вам покаже велику го́рницю вистелену: там приготуйте“.

13

And having gone they found it as he had said to them; and they prepared the passover.

13

І вони відійшли, і знайшли, як Він їм говорив, — і зачали́ там готува́ти пасху.

14

The Lord's Supper Instituted

And when the hour was come, he placed himself at table, and the [twelve] apostles with him.

14

А коли настав час, сів до сто́лу, і апо́столи з Ним.

15

And he said to them, With desire I have desired to eat this passover with you before I suffer.

15

І промовив до них: „Я ду́же бажав спожи́ти цю пасху із вами, перш ніж муки прийму́.

16

For I say unto you, that I will not eat any more at all of it until it be fulfilled in the kingdom of God.

16

Бо кажу́ вам, що вже споживати не буду її, поки спо́вниться в Божому Царстві вона“.

17

And having received a cup, when he had given thanks he said, Take this and divide it among yourselves.

17

Узявши ж чашу, і вчинивши подяку, Він промовив: „Візьміть її, і поділіть між собою.

18

For I say unto you, that I will not drink at all of the fruit of the vine until the kingdom of God come.

18

Кажу́ ж вам, що віднині не питиму Я від оцього пло́ду виноградного, доки Боже Царство не при́йде“.

19

And having taken a loaf, when he had given thanks, he broke [it], and gave [it] to them, saying, This is my body which is given for you: this do in remembrance of me.

19

Узявши ж хліб і вчинивши подяку, поламав і дав їм, проказуючи: „Це тіло Моє, що за вас віддається. Це чиніть на спо́мин про Мене!“

20

In like manner also the cup, after having supped, saying, This cup [is] the new covenant in my blood, which is poured out for you.

20

По вече́рі так само ж і чашу, говорячи: „Оця чаша — Нови́й Заповіт у Моїй крові, що за вас проливається.

21

Moreover, behold, the hand of him that delivers me up [is] with me on the table;

21

Та однак, — за столом ось зо Мною рука Мого зра́дника.

22

and the Son of man indeed goes as it is determined, but woe unto that man by whom he is delivered up.

22

Бо Син Лю́дський іде, як призна́чено; але горе тому чоловікові, хто Його видає!“

23

And *they* began to question together among themselves who then it could be of them who was about to do this.

23

А вони почали́ між собою питати, котри́й з них мав би це вчинити?

24

Who is the Greatest?

And there was also a strife among them which of them should be held to be [the] greatest.

24

І сталось між ними й змагання, котрий з них уважатися має за більшого.

25

And he said to them, The kings of the nations rule over them, and they that exercise authority over them are called benefactors.

25

Він же промовив до них: „Царі народів панують над ними, а ті, що ними володіють, доброчи́нцями звуться.

26

But *ye* [shall] not [be] thus; but let the greater among you be as the younger, and the leader as he that serves.

26

Але не так ви: хто найбільший між вами, нехай буде, як менший, а начальник — як слуга,

27

For which [is] greater, he that is at table or he that serves? [Is] not he that is at table? But *I* am in the midst of you as the one that serves.

27

Бо хто більший: чи той, хто сидить при столі, чи хто прислуго́вує? Чи не той, хто сидить при столі? А Я серед вас, як слуга.

28

But *ye* are they who have persevered with me in my temptations.

28

Ви ж оті, що перетривали зо Мною в споку́сах Моїх,

29

And *I* appoint unto you, as my Father has appointed unto me, a kingdom,

29

і Я вам запові́тую Царство, як Отець Мій Мені заповів,

30

that ye may eat and drink at my table in my kingdom, and sit on thrones judging the twelve tribes of Israel.

30

щоб ви в Царстві Моїм споживали й пили за столом Моїм, і щоб ви на престолах засіли судити дванадцять племе́н Ізраїлевих“.

31

Jesus Predicts Peter's Denial

And the Lord said, Simon, Simon, behold, Satan has demanded to have you, to sift [you] as wheat;

31

І промовив Господь: „Си́моне, Си́моне, — ось сатана жадав вас, щоб вас пересі́яти, мов ту пшеницю.

32

but *I* have besought for thee that thy faith fail not; and *thou*, when once thou hast been restored, confirm thy brethren.

32

Я ж молився за тебе, щоб не зме́ншилась віра твоя; ти ж колись, як наве́рнешся, зміцни браттю свою!“

33

And he said to him, Lord, with thee I am ready to go both to prison and to death.

33

А той відказав Йому: „Господи, я з Тобою готовий іти до в'язниці й на смерть!“

34

And he said, I tell thee, Peter, [the] cock shall not crow to-day before that thou shalt thrice deny that thou knowest me.

34

Він же прорік: „Говорю́ тобі, Петре, — півень не заспіває сьогодні, як ти тричі зречешся, що не знаєш Мене“...

35

And he said to them, When I sent you without purse and scrip and sandals, did ye lack anything? And they said, Nothing.

35

І Він їм сказав: „Як Я вас посилав без кали́тки, і без торби, і без санда́ль, — чи вам бракувало чого?“ Вони ж відказали: „Нічо́го“.

36

He said therefore to them, But now he that has a purse let him take [it], in like manner also a scrip, and he that has none let him sell his garment and buy a sword;

36

„А тепер — каже їм — хто має калитку, нехай ві́зьме, теж і торбу; хто ж не має, нехай продасть одіж свою та й купить меча.

37

for I say unto you, that this that is written must yet be accomplished in me, And he was reckoned with [the] lawless: for also the things concerning me have an end.

37

Говорю бо Я вам, що ви́конатися на Мені має й це ось написане: „До злочинців Його зарахо́вано“. Бо те, що про Мене, вико́нується“.

38

And they said, Lord, behold here are two swords. And he said to them, It is enough.

38

І сказали вони: „Господи, ось тут два мечі“. А Він їм відказав: „До́сить!“

39

Jesus Prays on the Mount of Olives

And going forth he went according to his custom to the mount of Olives, and the disciples also followed him.

39

І Він вийшов, і пішов за звича́єм на го́ру Оливну. А за Ним пішли учні Його.

40

And when he was at the place he said to them, Pray that ye enter not into temptation.

40

А прийшовши на місце, сказав їм: „Моліться, щоб не впасти в спокусу“.

41

And he was withdrawn from them about a stone's throw, and having knelt down he prayed,

41

А Він Сам, відійшовши від них, як докинути ка́менем, на коліна припав та й молився,

42

saying, Father, if thou wilt remove this cup from me: -- but then, not my will, but thine be done.

42

благаючи: „Отче, як волієш, — пронеси́ мимо Мене цю чашу! Та проте — не Моя, а Твоя нехай станеться воля!“

43

And an angel appeared to him from heaven strengthening him.

43

І Ангол із неба з'явився до Нього, — і додавав Йому сили.

44

And being in conflict he prayed more intently. And his sweat became as great drops of blood, falling down upon the earth.

44

А як був у смерте́льній тривозі, ще пильніш Він молився. І піт Його став, немов каплі крови, що спливали на землю.

45

And rising up from his prayer, coming to the disciples, he found them sleeping from grief.

45

І, підвівшись з молитви, Він до учнів прийшов, і знайшов їх, що спали з журби́.

46

And he said to them, Why sleep ye? rise up and pray that ye enter not into temptation.

46

І промовив до них: „Чого́ ви спите? Уставайте й моліться, щоб не впасти в спокусу!

47

Jesus' Betrayal and Arrest

As he was yet speaking, behold, a crowd, and he that was called Judas, one of the twelve, went on before them, and drew near to Jesus to kiss him.

47

І, коли Він іще говорив, ось наро́д з'явився, і один із Дванадцятьо́х, що Юдою зветься, ішов перед ними. І він підійшов до Ісуса, щоб поцілувати Його. [Бо він знака їм дав був: кого я поцілую, то Він!“].

48

And Jesus said to him, Judas, deliverest thou up the Son of man with a kiss?

48

Ісус же промовив до нього: „Чи оце поцілу́нком ти, Юдо, видаєш Сина Лю́дського?“

49

And they who were around him, seeing what was going to follow, said [to him], Lord, shall we smite with [the] sword?

49

А ті, що були́ з Ним, як побачили, що́ має статись, сказали Йому: „Господи, — чи мече́м нам не вдарити?“

50

And a certain one from among them smote the bondman of the high priest and took off his right ear.

50

І, один із них рубону́в раба первосвященикового, — та й відтяв праве вухо йому́.

51

And Jesus answering said, Suffer thus far; and having touched his ear, he healed him.

51

Та Ісус відізвався й сказав: „Лишіть, — уже до́сить!“ І, доторкнувшись до вуха його, у здоро́вив його.

52

And Jesus said to the chief priests and captains of the temple and elders, who were come against him, Have ye come out as against a robber with swords and sticks?

52

А до первосвящеників і вла́ди сторожі храму та старших, що прийшли проти Нього, промовив Ісус: „Немов на розбійника вийшли з меча́ми та ки́ями.

53

When I was day by day with you in the temple ye did not stretch out your hands against me; but this is your hour and the power of darkness.

53

Як щоденно Я з вами у храмі бував, не підне́сли на Мене ви рук. Та це ваша година тепер, і влада те́мряви“.

Peter Denies Jesus

And having laid hold on him, they led him [away], and they led [him] into the house of the high priest. And Peter followed afar off.

54

А схопи́вши Його, повели́ й привели́ у дім первосвященика. Петро ж зда́лека йшов слідкома́.

55

And they having lit a fire in the midst of the court and sat down together, Peter sat among them.

55

Як розклали ж огонь серед дво́ру, і вкупі сиділи, сидів і Петро поміж ними.

56

And a certain maid, having seen him sitting by the light, and having fixed her eyes upon him, said, And this [man] was with him.

56

А служни́ця одна його вгледіла, як сидів коло світла, і, придивившись до нього, сказала: „І цей був із Ним!“

57

But he denied [him], saying, Woman, I do not know him.

57

І відрікся від Нього він, тве́рдячи: „Не знаю я, жінко, Його!“

58

And after a short time another seeing him said, And *thou* art of them. But Peter said, Man, I am not.

58

Незаба́ром же другий побачив його та й сказав: „І ти від отих“. А Петро відказав: „Ні, чоловіче!“

59

And after the lapse of about one hour another stoutly maintained it, saying, In truth this [man] also was with him, for also he is a Galilaean.

59

І як ча́су минуло з годину, хтось інший твердив і казав: „Поправді, — і цей був із Ним, бо він галіле́янин“.

60

And Peter said, Man, I know not what thou sayest. And immediately, while he was yet speaking, [the] cock crew.

60

А Петро відказав: „Чоловіче, — не відаю, про що́ ти говориш“... І зараз, як іще говорив він, півень заспівав.

61

And the Lord, turning round, looked at Peter; and Peter remembered the word of the Lord, how he said to him, Before [the] cock crow thou shalt deny me thrice.

61

І Господь обернувся й подививсь на Петра. А Петро згадав слово Господнє, як сказав Він йому: „Перше, ніж заспіває півень, — відречешся ти тричі від Мене“.

62

And Peter, going forth without, wept bitterly.

62

І, вийшовши звідти, він гірко заплакав!

The Soldiers Mock Jesus

And the men who held him mocked him, beating [him];

63

А люди, які ув'язни́ли Ісуса, знуща́лися з Нього та били.

64

and covering him up, asked him saying, Prophesy, who is it that struck thee?

64

І, закривши Його, вони били Його по обличчі, і питали Його, приговорюючи: „Пророкуй, хто́ то вдарив Тебе?“

65

And they said many other injurious things to him.

65

І багато інших богознева́г говорили на Нього вони...

66

Jesus Before the Council

And when it was day, the elderhood of the people, both [the] chief priests and scribes, were gathered together, and led him into their council, saying,

66

А коли настав день, то зібралися старші наро́ду, первосвященики й книжники, і повели́ Його в синедріо́н свій,

67

If *thou* art the Christ, tell us. And he said to them, If I tell you, ye will not at all believe;

67

і казали: „Коли Ти Христос, скажи нам“. А Він їм відповів: „Коли Я вам скажу́, — не повірите ви.

68

and if I should ask [you], ye would not answer me at all, nor let me go;

68

А коли й поспитаю вас Я, — не дасте Мені відповіді.

69

but henceforth shall the Son of man be sitting on the right hand of the power of God.

69

Незаба́ром Син Лю́дський сидітиме по прави́ці сили Божої!“

70

And they all said, *Thou* then art the Son of God? And he said to them, *Ye* say that I am.

70

Тоді всі запитали: „То Ти Божий Син?“ А Він їм відповів: „Самі кажете ви, що то Я“.

71

And they said, What need have we any more of witness, for we have heard ourselves out of his mouth?

71

А вони відказали: „На́що потрібні ще свідки для нас? Бо ми чули самі з Його уст!“
