Darby Bible Translation

New American Standard Bible

  • Jesus Comforts the Disciples

    Let not your heart be troubled; ye believe on God, believe also on me.
  • Jesus Comforts His Disciples

    “Do not let your heart be troubled; believe in God, believe also in Me.
  • In my Father's house there are many abodes; were it not so, I had told you: for I go to prepare you a place;
  • “In My Father’s house are many dwelling places; if it were not so, I would have told you; for I go to prepare a place for you.
  • and if I go and shall prepare you a place, I am coming again and shall receive you to myself, that where I am ye also may be.
  • “If I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and receive you to Myself, that where I am, there you may be also.
  • And ye know where I go, and ye know the way.
  • “And you know the way where I am going.”
  • The Way, the Truth, and the Life

    Thomas says to him, Lord, we know not where thou goest, and how can we know the way?
  • Thomas said to Him, “Lord, we do not know where You are going, how do we know the way?”
  • Jesus says to him, I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father unless by me.
  • Jesus said to him, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life; no one comes to the Father but through Me.
  • If ye had known me, ye would have known also my Father, and henceforth ye know him and have seen him.

  • Oneness with the Father

    “If you had known Me, you would have known My Father also; from now on you know Him, and have seen Him.”
  • Philip says to him, Lord, shew us the Father and it suffices us.
  • Philip said to Him, “Lord, show us the Father, and it is enough for us.”
  • Jesus says to him, Am I so long a time with you, and thou hast not known me, Philip? He that has seen me has seen the Father; and how sayest thou, Shew us the Father?
  • Jesus said to him, “Have I been so long with you, and yet you have not come to know Me, Philip? He who has seen Me has seen the Father; how can you say, ‘Show us the Father’?
  • Believest thou not that I [am] in the Father, and that the Father is in me? The words which I speak to you I do not speak from myself; but the Father who abides in me, he does the works.
  • “Do you not believe that I am in the Father, and the Father is in Me? The words that I say to you I do not speak on My own initiative, but the Father abiding in Me does His works.
  • Believe *me* that I [am] in the Father and the Father in me; but if not, believe me for the works' sake themselves.
  • “Believe Me that I am in the Father and the Father is in Me; otherwise believe because of the works themselves.
  • Verily, verily, I say to you, He that believes on me, the works which I do shall he do also, and he shall do greater than these, because I go to the Father.
  • “Truly, truly, I say to you, he who believes in Me, the works that I do, he will do also; and greater works than these he will do; because I go to the Father.
  • And whatsoever ye shall ask in my name, this will I do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son.
  • “Whatever you ask in My name, that will I do, so that the Father may be glorified in the Son.
  • If ye shall ask anything in my name, I will do it.
  • “If you ask Me anything in My name, I will do it.
  • Jesus Promises the Holy Spirit

    If ye love me, keep my commandments.
  • “If you love Me, you will keep My commandments.
  • And I will beg the Father, and he will give you another Comforter, that he may be with you for ever,

  • Role of the Spirit

    “I will ask the Father, and He will give you another Helper, that He may be with you forever;
  • the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it does not see him nor know him; but ye know him, for he abides with you, and shall be in you.
  • that is the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it does not see Him or know Him, but you know Him because He abides with you and will be in you.
  • I will not leave you orphans, I am coming to you.
  • “I will not leave you as orphans; I will come to you.
  • Yet a little and the world sees me no longer; but ye see me; because I live ye also shall live.
  • “After a little while the world will no longer see Me, but you will see Me; because I live, you will live also.
  • In that day ye shall know that I [am] in my Father, and ye in me, and I in you.
  • “In that day you will know that I am in My Father, and you in Me, and I in you.
  • He that has my commandments and keeps them, he it is that loves me; but he that loves me shall be loved by my Father, and I will love him and will manifest myself to him.
  • “He who has My commandments and keeps them is the one who loves Me; and he who loves Me will be loved by My Father, and I will love him and will disclose Myself to him.”
  • Judas, not the Iscariote, says to him, Lord, how is it that thou wilt manifest thyself to us and not to the world?
  • Judas (not Iscariot) said to Him, “Lord, what then has happened that You are going to disclose Yourself to us and not to the world?”
  • Jesus answered and said to him, If any one love me, he will keep my word, and my Father will love him, and we will come to him and make our abode with him.
  • Jesus answered and said to him, “If anyone loves Me, he will keep My word; and My Father will love him, and We will come to him and make Our abode with him.
  • He that loves me not does not keep my words; and the word which ye hear is not mine, but [that] of the Father who has sent me.
  • “He who does not love Me does not keep My words; and the word which you hear is not Mine, but the Father’s who sent Me.
  • These things I have said to you, abiding with you;
  • “These things I have spoken to you while abiding with you.
  • but the Comforter, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, *he* shall teach you all things, and will bring to your remembrance all the things which I have said to you.
  • “But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in My name, He will teach you all things, and bring to your remembrance all that I said to you.
  • Peace I Leave with You

    I leave peace with you; I give *my* peace to you: not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it fear.
  • “Peace I leave with you; My peace I give to you; not as the world gives do I give to you. Do not let your heart be troubled, nor let it be fearful.
  • Ye have heard that I have said unto you, I go away and I am coming to you. If ye loved me ye would rejoice that I go to the Father, for [my] Father is greater than I.
  • “You heard that I said to you, ‘I go away, and I will come to you.’ If you loved Me, you would have rejoiced because I go to the Father, for the Father is greater than I.
  • And now I have told you before it comes to pass, that when it shall have come to pass ye may believe.
  • “Now I have told you before it happens, so that when it happens, you may believe.
  • I will no longer speak much with you, for the ruler of the world comes, and in me he has nothing;
  • “I will not speak much more with you, for the ruler of the world is coming, and he has nothing in Me;
  • but that the world may know that I love the Father, and as the Father has commanded me, thus I do. Rise up, let us go hence.
  • but so that the world may know that I love the Father, I do exactly as the Father commanded Me. Get up, let us go from here.
