Darby Bible Translation

New King James Version

  • Jesus' Warning

    These things I have spoken unto you that ye may not be offended.
  • Jesus Warns and Comforts His Disciples

    “These things I have spoken to you, that you should not be made to stumble.
  • They shall put you out of the synagogues; but the hour is coming that every one who kills you will think to render service to God;
  • They will put you out of the synagogues; yes, the time is coming that whoever kills you will think that he offers God service.
  • and these things they will do because they have not known the Father nor me.
  • And these things they will do [a]to you because they have not known the Father nor Me.
  • But I have spoken these things to you, that when their hour shall have come, ye may remember them, that I have said [them] unto you. But I did not say these things unto you from [the] beginning, because I was with you.
  • But these things I have told you, that when [b]the time comes, you may remember that I told you of them.
    “And these things I did not say to you at the beginning, because I was with you.
  • The Holy Spirit Promised

    But now I go to him that has sent me, and none of you demands of me, Where goest thou?
  • The Work of the Holy Spirit

    “But now I go away to Him who sent Me, and none of you asks Me, ‘Where are You going?’
  • But because I have spoken these things to you, sorrow has filled your heart.
  • But because I have said these things to you, sorrow has filled your heart.
  • But I say the truth to you, It is profitable for you that I go away; for if I do not go away, the Comforter will not come to you; but if I go I will send him to you.
  • Nevertheless I tell you the truth. It is to your advantage that I go away; for if I do not go away, the Helper will not come to you; but if I depart, I will send Him to you.
  • And having come, he will bring demonstration to the world, of sin, and of righteousness, and of judgment:
  • And when He has come, He will convict the world of sin, and of righteousness, and of judgment:
  • of sin, because they do not believe on me;
  • of sin, because they do not believe in Me;
  • of righteousness, because I go away to [my] Father, and ye behold me no longer;
  • of righteousness, because I go to My Father and you see Me no more;
  • of judgment, because the ruler of this world is judged.
  • of judgment, because the ruler of this world is judged.
  • I have yet many things to say to you, but ye cannot bear them now.
  • “I still have many things to say to you, but you cannot bear them now.
  • But when *he* is come, the Spirit of truth, he shall guide you into all the truth: for he shall not speak from himself; but whatsoever he shall hear he shall speak; and he will announce to you what is coming.
  • However, when He, the Spirit of truth, has come, He will guide you into all truth; for He will not speak on His own authority, but whatever He hears He will speak; and He will tell you things to come.
  • He shall glorify me, for he shall receive of mine and shall announce [it] to you.
  • He will glorify Me, for He will take of what is Mine and declare it to you.
  • All things that the Father has are mine; on account of this I have said that he receives of mine and shall announce [it] to you.
  • All things that the Father has are Mine. Therefore I said that He [c]will take of Mine and declare it to you.
  • A little while and ye do not behold me; and again a little while and ye shall see me, [because I go away to the Father].
  • Sorrow Will Turn to Joy

    “A little while, and you will not see Me; and again a little while, and you will see Me, because I go to the Father.”
  • The Disciples' Grief will Turn to Joy

    [Some] of his disciples therefore said to one another, What is this he says to us, A little while and ye do not behold me; and again a little while and ye shall see me, and, Because I go away to the Father?
  • Then some of His disciples said among themselves, “What is this that He says to us, ‘A little while, and you will not see Me; and again a little while, and you will see Me’; and, ‘because I go to the Father’?”
  • They said therefore, What is this which he says [of] the little while? We do not know [of] what he speaks.
  • They said therefore, “What is this that He says, ‘A little while’? We do not [d]know what He is saying.”
  • Jesus knew therefore that they desired to demand of him, and said to them, Do ye inquire of this among yourselves that I said, A little while and ye do not behold me; and again a little while and ye shall see me?
  • Now Jesus knew that they desired to ask Him, and He said to them, “Are you inquiring among yourselves about what I said, ‘A little while, and you will not see Me; and again a little while, and you will see Me’?
  • Verily, verily, I say to you, that ye shall weep and lament, ye, but the world shall rejoice; and ye will be grieved, but your grief shall be turned to joy.
  • Most assuredly, I say to you that you will weep and lament, but the world will rejoice; and you will be sorrowful, but your sorrow will be turned into joy.
  • A woman, when she gives birth to a child, has grief because her hour has come; but when the child is born, she no longer remembers the trouble, on account of the joy that a man has been born into the world.
  • A woman, when she is in labor, has sorrow because her hour has come; but as soon as she has given birth to the child, she no longer remembers the anguish, for joy that a human being has been born into the world.
  • And ye now therefore have grief; but I will see you again, and your heart shall rejoice, and your joy no one takes from you.
  • Therefore you now have sorrow; but I will see you again and your heart will rejoice, and your joy no one will take from you.
  • Ask and You will Receive

    And in that day ye shall demand nothing of me: verily, verily, I say to you, Whatsoever ye shall ask the Father in my name, he will give you.
  • “And in that day you will ask Me nothing. Most assuredly, I say to you, whatever you ask the Father in My name He will give you.
  • Hitherto ye have asked nothing in my name: ask, and ye shall receive, that your joy may be full.
  • Until now you have asked nothing in My name. Ask, and you will receive, that your joy may be full.
  • These things I have spoken to you in allegories; the hour is coming that I will no longer speak to you in allegories, but will declare to you openly concerning the Father.
  • Jesus Christ Has Overcome the World

    “These things I have spoken to you in figurative language; but the time is coming when I will no longer speak to you in figurative language, but I will tell you plainly about the Father.
  • In that day ye shall ask in my name; and I say not to you that I will demand of the Father for you,
  • In that day you will ask in My name, and I do not say to you that I shall pray the Father for you;
  • for the Father himself has affection for you, because ye have had affection for me, and have believed that I came out from God.
  • for the Father Himself loves you, because you have loved Me, and have believed that I came forth from God.
  • I came out from the Father and have come into the world; again, I leave the world and go to the Father.
  • I came forth from the Father and have come into the world. Again, I leave the world and go to the Father.”
  • His disciples say to him, Lo, now thou speakest openly and utterest no allegory.
  • His disciples said to Him, “See, now You are speaking plainly, and using no figure of speech!
  • Now we know that thou knowest all things, and hast not need that any one should demand of thee. By this we believe that thou art come from God.
  • Now we are sure that You know all things, and have no need that anyone should question You. By this we believe that You came forth from God.”
  • Jesus answered them, Do ye now believe?
  • Jesus answered them, “Do you now believe?
  • Behold, [the] hour is coming, and has come, that ye shall be scattered, each to his own, and shall leave me alone; and [yet] I am not alone, for the Father is with me.
  • Indeed the hour is coming, yes, has now come, that you will be scattered, each to his [e]own, and will leave Me alone. And yet I am not alone, because the Father is with Me.
  • These things have I spoken to you that in me ye might have peace. In the world ye have tribulation; but be of good courage: I have overcome the world.
  • These things I have spoken to you, that in Me you may have peace. In the world you [f]will have tribulation; but be of good cheer, I have overcome the world.”
