Як тільки Ісус дізнався, що фарисеї почули, що Він збирає та хрестить більше учнів, ніж Іван, —
(however, Jesus himself did not baptise, but his disciples),
хоч Сам Ісус не хрестив, а лише Його учні, —
He comes therefore to a city of Samaria called Sychar, near to the land which Jacob gave to his son Joseph.
Він приходить до самарійського міста, що називається Сихар, поблизу поля, яке Яків дав своєму синові Йосифові.
Now a fountain of Jacob's was there; Jesus therefore, being wearied with the way he had come, sat just as he was at the fountain. It was about the sixth hour.
Була там криниця Якова. Ісус, втомившись з дороги, сів отак біля криниці. Було десь близько шостої години [1].
A woman comes out of Samaria to draw water. Jesus says to her, Give me to drink
Приходить жінка із Самарії по воду. Каже їй Ісус: Дай Мені напитися!
(for his disciples had gone away into the city that they might buy provisions).
Учні ж Його пішли в місто, щоб купити їжі.
The Samaritan woman therefore says to him, How dost thou, being a Jew, ask to drink of me who am a Samaritan woman? for Jews have no intercourse with Samaritans.
Тоді жінка-самарійка промовила до Нього: Як Ти, будучи юдеєм, просиш пити у мене, коли я — жінка-самарійка? Адже юдеї не спілкуються із самарійцями!
Jesus answered and said to her, If thou knewest the gift of God, and who it is that says to thee, Give me to drink, thou wouldest have asked of him, and he would have given thee living water.
Ісус у відповідь сказав їй: Коли б ти знала Божий дар і Хто Той, що говорить тобі: Дай мені напитися! — ти просила б у Нього, і Він дав би тобі живої води.
The woman says to him, Sir, thou hast nothing to draw with, and the well is deep: whence then hast thou the living water?
Каже йому жінка: Пане, Ти не маєш відра, а криниця глибока, звідки маєш живу воду?
Art thou greater than our father Jacob, who gave us the well, and drank of it himself, and his sons, and his cattle?
Хіба Ти більший за нашого батька Якова, який дав нам криницю: і сам з неї пив, і сини його, і худоба його?
Jesus answered and said to her, Every one who drinks of this water shall thirst again;
У відповідь Ісус сказав їй: Кожний, хто п’є цю воду, буде спраглий знову,
but whosoever drinks of the water which I shall give him shall never thirst for ever, but the water which I shall give him shall become in him a fountain of water, springing up into eternal life.
а хто питиме воду, яку Я йому дам, не матиме спраги повік, бо вода, яку Я йому дам, стане в ньому джерелом води, що тече в життя вічне.
The woman says to him, Sir, give me this water, that I may not thirst nor come here to draw.
Каже Йому жінка: Пане, дай мені цієї води, щоб я не мала спраги й не приходила сюди черпати!
Jesus says to her, Go, call thy husband, and come here.
Говорить їй [Ісус]: Іди, поклич свого чоловіка і приходь сюди.
The woman answered and said, I have not a husband. Jesus says to her, Thou hast well said, I have not a husband;
У відповідь жінка сказала Йому: Не маю я чоловіка. Каже їй Ісус: Добре ти сказала, що не маєш чоловіка,
for thou hast had five husbands, and he whom now thou hast is not thy husband: this thou hast spoken truly.
бо п’ятьох чоловіків ти мала, і той, якого нині маєш, не є твоїм чоловіком. Це ти правду сказала.
The woman says to him, Sir, I see that thou art a prophet.
Каже жінка Йому: Пане, я бачу, що Ти — Пророк.
Our fathers worshipped in this mountain, and ye say that in Jerusalem is the place where one must worship.
Наші предки поклонялися на цій горі [2] , а ви кажете, що в Єрусалимі те місце, де потрібно поклонятися.
Jesus says to her, Woman, believe me, [the] hour is coming when ye shall neither in this mountain nor in Jerusalem worship the Father.
Ісус промовив до неї: Жінко, вір Мені, що надходить час, коли ні на цій горі, ні в Єрусалимі не будете поклонятися Отцеві.
Ye worship ye know not what; we worship what we know, for salvation is of the Jews.
Ви поклоняєтеся Тому, Кого не знаєте; ми ж поклоняємося Тому, Кого знаємо, бо спасіння від юдеїв.
But [the] hour is coming and now is, when the true worshippers shall worship the Father in spirit and truth; for also the Father seeks such as his worshippers.
Але надходить час, — і вже тепер він є, — коли правдиві поклонники будуть поклонятися Отцеві в Дусі та істині, бо Отець шукає Собі таких поклонників.
God [is] a spirit; and they who worship him must worship [him] in spirit and truth.
Бог є Дух, і хто Йому поклоняється, повинен поклонятися у Дусі та істині.
The woman says to him, I know that Messias is coming, who is called Christ; when *he* comes he will tell us all things.
Відказує Йому жінка: Знаю, що прийде Месія, Який називається Христос [3]; коли Він прийде, то сповістить нам усе!
Jesus says to her, I who speak to thee am [he].
Каже їй Ісус: Це Я — Той, Хто говорить з тобою!
The Disciples Return and Marvel
And upon this came his disciples, and wondered that he spoke with a woman; yet no one said, What seekest thou? or, Why speakest thou with her?

І тоді надійшли Його учні й дивувалися, що Він розмовляв із жінкою. Однак ніхто з них не спитав: Чого хочеш? — або: Чому розмовляєш з нею?
The woman then left her waterpot and went away into the city, and says to the men,
А жінка залишила своє відро, пішла до міста й каже людям:
Come, see a man who told me all things I had ever done: is not he the Christ?
Ходіть і подивіться на Чоловіка, Який мені сказав усе, що я зробила! Чи часом Він не Христос?
But meanwhile the disciples asked him saying, Rabbi, eat.
Тим часом учні просили Його, кажучи: Равві, їж!
But he said to them, I have food to eat which ye do not know.
Та Він сказав їм: Я маю їсти поживу, якої ви не знаєте.
The disciples therefore said to one another, Has any one brought him [anything] to eat?
Тоді учні почали перемовлятися між собою: Чи не приніс хто Йому їсти?
Jesus says to them, My food is that I should do the will of him that has sent me, and that I should finish his work.
Каже їм Ісус: Моя пожива — чинити волю Того, Хто послав Мене, та довершити Його справу.
Do not ye say, that there are yet four months and the harvest comes? Behold, I say to you, Lift up your eyes and behold the fields, for they are already white to harvest.
Чи не кажете ви, що за чотири місяці настануть жнива? А я кажу вам: Підійміть ваші очі й погляньте на ниви, які вже дозріли для жнив.
He that reaps receives wages and gathers fruit unto life eternal, that both he that sows and he that reaps may rejoice together.
Хто жне, той одержує нагороду і збирає врожай для вічного життя, щоб разом раділи ті, хто сіє і хто жне.
For in this is [verified] the true saying, It is one who sows and another who reaps.
Адже тут справджується приказка: Один сіє, а інший жне.
I have sent you to reap that on which ye have not laboured; others have laboured, and ye have entered into their labours.
Я послав вас жати там, де ви не трудилися; інші трудилися, а ви пожинаєте їхню працю!
Many Samaritans Believe
But many of the Samaritans of that city believed on him because of the word of the woman who bore witness, He told me all things that I had ever done.

Багато самарійців з того міста повірило в Нього через слова, які засвідчила жінка: Він сказав мені все, що я зробила.
When therefore the Samaritans came to him they asked him to abide with them, and he abode there two days.
Ось чому, коли прийшли до Нього самарійці, то просили Його, щоби побув у них. І Він пробув там два дні.
And more a great deal believed on account of his word;
Значно більше повірило через Його слово.
and they said to the woman, [It is] no longer on account of thy saying that we believe, for we have heard him ourselves, and we know that this is indeed the Saviour of the world.
Жінці ж казали: Вже не через твоє свідчення віримо, а тому, що самі чули та знаємо, що Він — справжній Спаситель світу, [Христос].
Jesus Heals the Official's Son
But after the two days he went forth thence and went away into Galilee,

for Jesus himself bore witness that a prophet has no honour in his own country.
бо Сам Ісус засвідчив, що пророк не має пошани на своїй батьківщині.
When therefore he came into Galilee, the Galileans received him, having seen all that he had done in Jerusalem during the feast, for they also went to the feast.
Отже, коли прийшов у Галилею, галилейці прийняли Його, побачивши все, що Він учинив у Єрусалимі на святі, оскільки й вони ходили на свято.
He came therefore again to Cana of Galilee, where he made the water wine. And there was a certain courtier in Capernaum whose son was sick.
Отож, [Ісус] знову прийшов до Кани Галилейської, де перетворив воду у вино. У Капернаумі був якийсь придворний, син котрого нездужав.
He, having heard that Jesus had come out of Judaea into Galilee, went to him and asked [him] that he would come down and heal his son, for he was about to die.
Почувши, що Ісус прийшов з Юдеї до Галилеї, він пішов до Нього і просив [Його], щоби прийшов і оздоровив його сина, який був при смерті.
Jesus therefore said to him, Unless ye see signs and wonders ye will not believe.
А Ісус сказав йому: Якщо не побачите ознак і чудес, не повірите!
The courtier says to him, Sir, come down ere my child die.
Каже Йому придворний: Господи, прийди, поки не померло моє дитя!
Jesus says to him, Go, thy son lives. And the man believed the word which Jesus said to him, and went his way.
Говорить йому Ісус: Іди, твій син живе! І повірив чоловік у слова, які сказав йому Ісус, і пішов.
But already, as he was going down, his servants met him and brought [him] word saying, Thy child lives.
Відразу ж, як він входив, його раби зустріли його [і сповістили йому], кажучи, що його син живий.
He inquired therefore from them the hour at which he got better. And they said to him, Yesterday at the seventh hour the fever left him.
Він же запитав у них про час, коли йому покращало. А йому сказали, що вчора о сьомій годині [4] залишила його гарячка.
The father therefore knew that [it was] in that hour in which Jesus said to him, Thy son lives; and he believed, himself and his whole house.
Тож батько зрозумів, що то була якраз та година, о котрій сказав йому Ісус: Твій син живе! Тож повірив він сам і весь його дім.
