Jesus Heals at the Pool of Bethesda

After these things was a feast of the Jews, and Jesus went up to Jerusalem.

1

Після цього було юдейське свято, і Ісус прийшов у Єрусалим.

Now there is in Jerusalem, at the sheepgate, a pool, which is called in Hebrew, Bethesda, having five porches.

Є в Єрусалимі біля Овечої брами купальня, що по-юдейському називається Витезда, вона має п’ять критих входів.

In these lay a multitude of sick, blind, lame, withered, [awaiting the moving of the water.

У них лежало багато недужих, сліпих, кривих, сухих, [які очікували руху води.

For an angel descended at a certain season in the pool and troubled the water. Whoever therefore first went in after the troubling of the water became well, whatever disease he laboured under.]

Бо ангел Господній час від часу сходив до купальні й збурював воду. Хто перший заходив після збурення води, той ставав здоровим, хоч би якою була його недуга].

But there was a certain man there who had been suffering under his infirmity thirty and eight years.

Був там один чоловік, який тридцять вісім років нездужав.

Jesus seeing this [man] lying [there], and knowing that he was [in that state] now a great length of time, says to him, Wouldest thou become well?

Ісус, побачивши його, як лежав, і, знаючи, що довго він уже хворіє, сказав йому: Чи ти хочеш стати здоровим?

7

The infirm [man] answered him, Sir, I have not a man, in order, when the water has been troubled, to cast me into the pool; but while I am coming another descends before me.

Хворий відповів Йому: Пане, не маю людини, яка вкинула б мене до купальні, коли забурлить вода. Коли ж я приходжу, то інший уже заходить раніше за мене.

Jesus says to him, Arise, take up thy couch and walk.

Каже йому Ісус: Устань, візьми постіль свою і ходи!

And immediately the man became well, and took up his couch and walked: and on that day was sabbath.

9

І чоловік тут же став здоровим, узяв свою постіль і почав ходити.

10

The Jews therefore said to the healed [man], It is sabbath, it is not permitted thee to take up thy couch.

10

Була тоді субота. Тому юдеї казали до того, хто видужав: Нині субота, і не годиться тобі носити свою постіль.

11

He answered them, He that made me well, *he* said to me, Take up thy couch and walk.

11

Він же відповів їм: Той, Хто мене оздоровив, сказав мені: Візьми свою постіль і ходи!

12

They asked him [therefore], Who is the man who said to thee, Take up thy couch and walk?

12

Вони запитали його: Хто Той Чоловік, Який сказав тобі взяти й ходити?

13

But he that had been healed knew not who it was, for Jesus had slidden away, there being a crowd in the place.

13

Оздоровлений не знав, Хто Він, бо Ісус увійшов у натовп, який був на тому місці.

14

After these things Jesus finds him in the temple, and said to him, Behold, thou art become well: sin no more, that something worse do not happen to thee.

14

Згодом Ісус зустрів його в храмі й сказав йому: Ось видужав ти. Не гріши більше, щоби чого гіршого не сталося тобі.

15

The man went away and told the Jews that it was Jesus who had made him well.

15

Пішов цей чоловік і сповістив юдеям, що його оздоровив Ісус.

The Father and the Son

And for this the Jews persecuted Jesus [and sought to kill him], because he had done these things on sabbath.

16

І стали юдеї переслідувати Ісуса [й намагалися Його вбити] за те, що робив таке в суботу.

17

But Jesus answered them, My Father worketh hitherto and I work.

17

Ісус же відповів їм: Мій Отець працює дотепер, — працюю і Я.

18

For this therefore the Jews sought the more to kill him, because he had not only violated the sabbath, but also said that God was his own Father, making himself equal with God.

18

Отже, юдеї ще більше намагалися Його вбити не тільки за те, що порушував суботу, але й що Бога називав Своїм Отцем, роблячи Себе рівним Богові.

19

Jesus therefore answered and said to them, Verily, verily, I say to you, The Son can do nothing of himself save whatever he sees the Father doing: for whatever things *he* does, these things also the Son does in like manner.

У відповідь Ісус говорив їм: Знову й знову запевняю вас: Син не може робити нічого Сам від Себе, а тільки те, що бачить, як Отець робить; що Він робить, — те й Син також робить.

20

For the Father loves the Son and shews him all things which he himself does; and he will shew him greater works than these, that ye may wonder.

20

Адже Отець любить Сина й показує Йому все, що Сам робить, і покаже Йому діла ще більші від цих, щоб ви дивувалися.

21

For even as the Father raises the dead and quickens [them], thus the Son also quickens whom he will:

21

Отож, як Отець воскрешає мертвих і оживляє, так і Син, кого хоче, оживляє,

22

for neither does the Father judge any one, but has given all judgment to the Son;

22

оскільки Отець не судить нікого, але весь суд передав Синові,

23

that all may honour the Son, even as they honour the Father. He who honours not the Son, honours not the Father who has sent him.

23

щоб усі шанували Сина, як шанують Отця. Хто не шанує Сина, той не шанує і Отця, Який Його послав.

24

Verily, verily, I say unto you, that he that hears my word, and believes him that has sent me, has life eternal, and does not come into judgment, but is passed out of death into life.

24

Знову й знову запевняю вас, що хто слухає Моє слово і вірить у Того, Хто послав Мене, має вічне життя і на суд не приходить, але перейшов він від смерті до життя.

25

Verily, verily, I say unto you, that an hour is coming, and now is, when the dead shall hear the voice of the Son of God, and they that have heard shall live.

25

Знову й знову запевняю вас, що надходить час, — і він вже є, — коли мертві почують голос Сина Божого і, почувши, оживуть.

26

For even as the Father has life in himself, so he has given to the Son also to have life in himself,

26

Бо як Отець має життя в Собі, так дав і Синові мати в Собі життя.

27

and has given him authority to execute judgment [also], because he is Son of man.

27

І дав Йому владу [і] суд чинити, бо він є Сином Людським.

28

Wonder not at this, for an hour is coming in which all who are in the tombs shall hear his voice,

28

Не дивуйтеся цьому, бо надходить час, коли всі, хто в могилах, почують Його голос;

29

and shall go forth; those that have practised good, to resurrection of life, and those that have done evil, to resurrection of judgment.

29

і вийдуть ті, які робили добро, у воскресіння життя, а ті, які робили зло, — у воскресіння суду.

30

I cannot do anything of myself; as I hear, I judge, and my judgment is righteous, because I do not seek my will, but the will of him that has sent me.

30

Не можу Я Сам від Себе робити нічого. Як Я чую, так і суджу, і Мій суд справедливий, бо не шукаю Своєї волі, але волі Того, Хто Мене послав, — [Отця].

Testimonies about Jesus

If I bear witness concerning myself, my witness is not true.

31

Якщо Я свідчу Сам про Себе, то Моє свідчення неправдиве.

32

It is another who bears witness concerning me, and I know that the witness which he bears concerning me is true.

32

Є інший, Хто свідчить про Мене; і знаю, що свідчення, яким Він свідчить про Мене, істинне.

33

Ye have sent unto John, and he has borne witness to the truth.

33

Ви посилали до Івана, і він засвідчив істину.

34

But I do not receive witness from man, but I say this that *ye* might be saved.

34

Я ж не від людини приймаю свідчення, але кажу це для того, щоб ви були спасенні.

35

*He* was the burning and shining lamp, and ye were willing for a season to rejoice in his light.

35

Він був світильником, який горів і світив, ви ж хотіли порадуватися від його світла на якийсь час.

36

But I have the witness [that is] greater than [that] of John; for the works which the Father has given me that I should complete them, the works themselves which I do, bear witness concerning me that the Father has sent me.

36

Я ж маю свідчення більше, ніж свідчення Івана, адже діла, які Мені доручив Отець, щоб Я їх довершив, — ті діла, які Я роблю, свідчать про Мене, що Отець Мене послав.

37

And the Father who has sent me himself has borne witness concerning me. Ye have neither heard his voice at any time, nor have seen his shape,

І Сам Отець, Який послав Мене, засвідчив про Мене. А ви голосу Його ніколи не чули і виду Його ніколи не бачили,

38

and ye have not his word abiding in you; for whom *he* hath sent, him ye do not believe.

38

і не маєте Його слова, яке перебувало б у вас, тому що не вірите Тому, Кого Він послав.

39

Witness of the Scripture

Ye search the scriptures, for ye think that in them ye have life eternal, and they it is which bear witness concerning me;

39

Дослідіть Писання! Адже ви думаєте через них мати вічне життя, а вони свідчать про Мене.

40

and ye will not come to me that ye might have life.

40

Та ви не хочете прийти до Мене, щоб мати життя.

41

I do not receive glory from men,

41

Слави від людей Я не приймаю,

42

but I know you, that ye have not the love of God in you.

42

але знаю вас, що Божої любові ви не маєте в собі.

43

I am come in my Father's name, and ye receive me not; if another come in his own name, him ye will receive.

43

Я прийшов у Ім’я Мого Отця, — і ви не приймаєте Мене. Якщо ж інший прийде у своє ім’я, того приймете.

44

How can ye believe, who receive glory one of another, and seek not the glory which [comes] from God alone?

44

Як ви можете повірити, коли приймаєте одне від одного славу, а слави, що від єдиного Бога, — не шукаєте?

45

Think not that I will accuse you to the Father: there is [one] who accuses you, Moses, on whom ye trust;

45

Не думайте, що Я буду оскаржувати вас перед Отцем; є той, хто вас звинувачує, — Мойсей, на якого ви надієтеся.

46

for if ye had believed Moses, ye would have believed me, for he wrote of me.

46

Бо коли б ви вірили Мойсеєві, то вірили б і Мені, адже він написав про Мене.

47

But if ye do not believe his writings, how shall ye believe my words?

47

Якщо ж ви не вірите його Писанням, то як ви повірите Моїм словам?
