The Holy Spirit at Pentecost

And when the day of Pentecost was now accomplishing, they were all together in one place.

Коли настав день П’ятидесятниці, усі вони були однодушно разом.

And there came suddenly a sound out of heaven as of a violent impetuous blowing, and filled all the house where they were sitting.

Раптом з неба долинув шум, наче подув бурхливий вітер, і наповнив увесь дім, де вони сиділи.

And there appeared to them parted tongues, as of fire, and it sat upon each one of them.

І з’явилися їм поділені язики, наче вогняні, і осіли на кожного з них.

And they were all filled with [the] Holy Spirit, and began to speak with other tongues as the Spirit gave to them to speak forth.

І всі вони наповнилися Духом Святим і почали говорити іншими мовами, як Дух велів їм промовляти.

Now there were dwelling at Jerusalem Jews, pious men, from every nation of those under heaven.

А в Єрусалимі перебували юдеї та побожні люди з кожного народу, який під небом.

But the rumour of this having spread, the multitude came together and were confounded, because each one heard them speaking in his own dialect.

Коли ж стався цей шум, зібрався натовп, і були збентежені, коли почули, що кожний говорить до них їхньою власною мовою.

And all were amazed and wondered, saying, Behold, are not all these who are speaking Galilaeans?

Вони в нестямі дивувалися і говорили [один до одного]: Хіба всі ці, які говорять, не галилейці?

and how do *we* hear [them] each in our own dialect in which we have been born,

Як же це, що ми чуємо кожний своєю рідною мовою, в якій ми народилися?

Parthians, and Medes, and Elamites, and those who inhabit Mesopotamia, and Judaea, and Cappadocia, Pontus and Asia,

9

Партянці й мідянці, еламітці й ті, хто з Месопотамії, з Юдеї та Кападокії, з Понту й Азії,

10

both Phrygia and Pamphylia, Egypt, and the parts of Libya which adjoin Cyrene, and the Romans sojourning [here], both Jews and proselytes,

10

Фригії і Памфилії, Єгипту й околиць Лівії, що біля Киринеї, і захожі римляни,

11

Cretans and Arabians, we hear them speaking in our own tongues the great things of God?

юдеї і прозеліти, критяни й араби, — чуємо, як вони говорять нашими мовами про Божу велич!

And they were all amazed and in perplexity, saying one to another, What would this mean?

12

Тож усі дивувалися і, розгублені, говорили одне одному: Що ж це має бути?

13

But others mocking said, They are full of new wine.

13

Інші, глузуючи, казали, що вони понапивалися вина.

Peter Preaches to the Crowd

But Peter, standing up with the eleven, lifted up his voice and spoke forth to them, Men of Judaea, and all ye inhabitants of Jerusalem, let this be known to you, and give heed to my words:

14

А Петро, ставши з одинадцятьма, підвищив свій голос і сказав їм: Мужі юдейські й усі мешканці Єрусалима! Нехай буде це вам відоме, — прислухайтеся до моїх слів!

15

for these are not full of wine, as *ye* suppose, for it is the third hour of the day;

15

Вони не п’яні, як ви думаєте, бо щойно третя година [1] дня.

16

but this is that which was spoken through the prophet Joel,

16

Але це те, що провістив пророк Йоіл:

17

And it shall be in the last days, saith God, [that] I will pour out of my Spirit upon all flesh; and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, and your young men shall see visions, and your elders shall dream with dreams;

17

І буде останніми днями, — каже Бог, — Я виллю від Духа Мого на всяке тіло, і будуть пророкувати ваші сини і ваші дочки, а ваші юнаки видіння побачать, і вашим старцям будуть снитися сни.

18

yea, even upon my bondmen and upon my bondwomen in those days will I pour out of my Spirit, and they shall prophesy.

18

І в ті дні виллю від Духа Мого на Моїх рабів і на Моїх рабинь, і будуть пророкувати.

19

And I will give wonders in the heaven above and signs on the earth below, blood, and fire, and vapour of smoke:

19

І дам чудеса на небі вгорі й ознаки на землі внизу: кров, вогонь і куряву диму.

20

the sun shall be changed to darkness and the moon to blood, before the great and gloriously appearing day of [the] Lord come.

20

Сонце обернеться на темряву, а місяць — на кров, перш ніж прийде Господній день, великий та славний!

21

And it shall be that whosoever shall call upon the name of [the] Lord shall be saved.

21

І станеться, що кожний, хто покличе Господнє Ім’я, спасеться!

22

Men of Israel, hear these words: Jesus the Nazaraean, a man borne witness to by God to you by works of power and wonders and signs, which God wrought by him in your midst, as yourselves know

22

Мужі ізраїльські, послухайте оці слова: Ісуса Назарянина, мужа, про Котрого вам засвідчив Бог могутніми проявами, чудесами й ознаками, які Бог учинив через Нього серед вас, як самі знаєте,

23

-- him, given up by the determinate counsel and foreknowledge of God, ye, by [the] hand of lawless [men], have crucified and slain.

23

Його, виданого згідно з Божим задумом і передбаченням, ви вбили, прибивши до хреста руками беззаконників;

24

Whom God has raised up, having loosed the pains of death, inasmuch as it was not possible that he should be held by its power;

24

та Бог Його воскресив, звільнивши від мук смерті, бо не під силу було їй втримати Його.

25

for David says as to him, I foresaw the Lord continually before me, because he is at my right hand that I may not be moved.

25

Давид говорить про Нього: Я завжди бачив Господа переді мною, бо Він — праворуч мене, щоб я не похитнувся.

26

Therefore has my heart rejoiced and my tongue exulted; yea more, my flesh also shall dwell in hope,

26

Тому зраділо моє серце і звеселився мій язик, навіть тіло моє сповниться надією,

27

for thou wilt not leave my soul in hades, nor wilt thou give thy gracious one to see corruption.

27

бо Ти не залишиш душі моєї в аді й не даси Своєму Святому побачити тління.

28

Thou hast made known to me [the] paths of life, thou wilt fill me with joy with thy countenance.

28

Ти дав мені пізнати дороги життя і сповниш мене радістю присутності Своєї!

29

Brethren, let it be allowed to speak with freedom to you concerning the patriarch David, that he has both died and been buried, and his monument is amongst us unto this day.

29

Мужі-брати! Потрібно сміливо сказати вам про патріарха Давида, який помер і був похований, і його гріб у нас аж дотепер.

30

Being therefore a prophet, and knowing that God had sworn to him with an oath, of the fruit of his loins to set upon his throne;

30

Будучи пророком і знаючи, що Бог клятвою пообіцяв йому з його нащадків [підняти Христа за тілом і] посадити на його престолі,

31

he, seeing [it] before, spoke concerning the resurrection of the Christ, that neither has he been left in hades nor his flesh seen corruption.

31

він пророче говорив про воскресіння Христа, що Він не залишиться в аді, і тіло Його не побачить тління.

32

This Jesus has God raised up, whereof all *we* are witnesses.

32

Цього Ісуса воскресив Бог, свідками чого є ми всі.

33

Having therefore been exalted by the right hand of God, and having received of the Father the promise of the Holy Spirit, he has poured out this which *ye* behold and hear.

33

Отже, правицею Божою був Він вознесений, обітницю Святого Духа одержав від Отця і вилив те, що ви бачите і чуєте.

34

For David has not ascended into the heavens, but he says himself, The Lord said unto my Lord, Sit at my right hand

Давид не піднявся на небо, бо сам говорить: Сказав Господь Господу моєму: Сядь праворуч Мене,

35

until I have put thine enemies [to be] the footstool of thy feet.

35

доки не покладу Твоїх ворогів під Твої ноги!

36

Let the whole house of Israel therefore know assuredly that God has made him, this Jesus whom *ye* have crucified, both Lord and Christ.

36

Тому нехай певно знає весь дім Ізраїля, що і Господом, і Христом зробив Його Бог — Цього Ісуса, Якого ви розіп’яли!

37

Three Thousand Believe

And having heard [it] they were pricked in heart, and said to Peter and the other apostles, What shall we do, brethren?

37

Почувши, вони розчулилися серцем і сказали Петрові й іншим апостолам: Що ж нам робити, мужі-брати?

38

And Peter said to them, Repent, and be baptised, each one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ, for remission of sins, and ye will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.

38

А Петро [сказав] їм: Покайтеся, і нехай охреститься кожний з вас в Ім’я Ісуса Христа на прощення ваших гріхів, і приймете дар Святого Духа!

39

For to you is the promise and to your children, and to all who [are] afar off, as many as [the] Lord our God may call.

39

Адже для вас ця обітниця і для ваших дітей, і для всіх тих, хто далеко, кого лише покличе Господь, Бог наш!

40

And with many other words he testified and exhorted them, saying, Be saved from this perverse generation.

40

Багатьма іншими словами він свідчив та заохочував їх, кажучи: Спасайтеся від цього лукавого роду!

41

Those then who had accepted his word were baptised; and there were added in that day about three thousand souls.

41

Отже, вони, прийнявши [з любов’ю] його слово, охрестилися; і приєдналися до них того дня зо три тисячі душ.

The Fellowship of Believers

And they persevered in the teaching and fellowship of the apostles, in breaking of bread and prayers.

42

Перебували вони постійно в навчанні апостолів і в братерській спільності, у ламанні хліба та в молитвах.

43

And fear was upon every soul, and many wonders and signs took place through the apostles' means.

43

І страх охопив кожну душу, бо багато чудес і ознак сталося через апостолів; [в Єрусалимі панував великий страх серед усіх].

44

And all that believed were together, and had all things common,

44

А всі, які повірили, були разом і мали все спільне.

45

and sold their possessions and substance, and distributed them to all, according as any one might have need.

45

Вони продавали маєтки та майно і ділилися ним з усіма, хто потребував.

46

And every day, being constantly in the temple with one accord, and breaking bread in [the] house, they received their food with gladness and simplicity of heart,

46

І щодня вони однодушно перебували в храмі та, ламаючи по домах хліб, у радості й простоті серця приймали їжу,

47

praising God, and having favour with all the people; and the Lord added [to the assembly] daily those that were to be saved.

47

вихваляючи Бога та маючи милість у всіх людей. Господь же додавав до них щодня тих, які спасалися.
