The Seven Chosen to Serve

But in those days, the disciples multiplying in number, there arose a murmuring of the Hellenists against the Hebrews because their widows were overlooked in the daily ministration.

В те дни, когда число учеников возрастало, иудеи, чьим родным языком был греческий, стали жаловаться на иудеев, у кого родной язык был еврейский, потому что их вдовами пренебрегали при каждодневном распределении пищи.

And the twelve, having called the multitude of the disciples to [them], said, It is not right that we, leaving the word of God, should serve tables.

Тогда двенадцать апостолов созвали всех учеников и сказали: "Не подобает нам, оставив слово Божье, беспокоиться о пропитании людей,

Look out therefore, brethren, from among yourselves seven men, well reported of, full of [the] [Holy] Spirit and wisdom, whom we will establish over this business:

так что выберите, братья, из своей среды семерых, пользующихся доброй славой и исполненных Святого Духа и мудрости: им и поручим эту службу,

but *we* will give ourselves up to prayer and the ministry of the word.

себя же посвятим молитве и наставлениям в слове Божьем".

And the saying pleased the whole multitude: and they chose Stephen, a man full of faith and [the] Holy Spirit, and Philip, and Prochorus, and Nicanor, and Timon, and Parmenas, and Nicolas, a proselyte of Antioch,

Все были довольны этим предложением и избрали Стефана, человека, исполненного веры и Святого Духа, Филиппа, Прохора, Никанора, Тимона, Пармена и Николая Антиохийца, обращённого из язычников.

whom they set before the apostles; and, having prayed, they laid their hands on them.

И представили их апостолам, и те, помолившись, возложили на них руки.

And the word of God increased; and the number of the disciples in Jerusalem was very greatly multiplied, and a great crowd of the priests obeyed the faith.

Итак, слово Божье распространялось, число учеников в Иерусалиме весьма возросло, и многие иудейские священники приняли веру и были послушны ей.

Stephen Arrested

And Stephen, full of grace and power, wrought wonders and great signs among the people.

Стефан же, человек исполненный благодати и силы, творил великие чудеса и знамения в народе.

And there arose up certain of those of the synagogue called of freedmen, and of Cyrenians, and of Alexandrians, and of those of Cilicia and Asia, disputing with Stephen.

Но некоторые иудеи из так называемой синагоги либертинцев, евреи из Киринеи и Александрии, из Киликии и Азии восстали против него. Они долго спорили с ним,

And they were not able to resist the wisdom and the Spirit with which he spoke.

но не могли противостоять мудрости и Святому Духу, который говорил через него.

Then they suborned men, saying, We have heard him speaking blasphemous words against Moses and God.

И они подкупили некоторых людей, чтобы те сказали: "Мы слышали, как он поносил Моисея и Бога".

And they roused the people, and the elders, and the scribes. And coming upon [him] they seized him and brought [him] to the council.

И они возбудили народ, старейшин и законников, и те пришли, схватили его и привели в синедрион.

And they set false witnesses, saying, This man does not cease speaking words against the holy place and the law;

И выставили лжесвидетелей, которые говорили: "Этот человек непрестанно хулит святое место и закон.

for we have heard him saying, This Jesus the Nazaraean shall destroy this place, and change the customs which Moses taught us.

Ибо мы слышали, как он говорил, что тот Иисус Назорей разрушит святое место и переменит законы, данные нам Моисеем".

And all who sat in the council, looking fixedly on him, saw his face as [the] face of an angel.

Все находившиеся в синедрионе не спускали с него глаз, ибо видели, что лицо его стало словно лицо ангела.
