Darby Bible Translation

New King James Version

  • Greetings from Peter

    Peter, apostle of Jesus Christ, to [the] sojourners of [the] dispersion of Pontus, Galatia, Cappadocia, Asia, and Bithynia,
  • Greeting to the Elect Pilgrims

    Peter, an apostle of Jesus Christ,
    To the [a]pilgrims of the Dispersion in Pontus, Galatia, Cappadocia, Asia, and Bithynia,
  • elect according to [the] foreknowledge of God [the] Father, by sanctification of [the] Spirit, unto [the] obedience and sprinkling of [the] blood of Jesus Christ: Grace to you and peace be multiplied.
  • elect according to the foreknowledge of God the Father, in sanctification of the Spirit, for obedience and sprinkling of the blood of Jesus Christ:
    Grace to you and peace be multiplied.
  • A Living Hope

    Blessed [be] the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who, according to his great mercy, has begotten us again to a living hope through [the] resurrection of Jesus Christ from among [the] dead,
  • A Heavenly Inheritance

    Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who according to His abundant mercy has begotten us again to a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead,
  • to an incorruptible and undefiled and unfading inheritance, reserved in [the] heavens for you,
  • to an inheritance [b]incorruptible and undefiled and that does not fade away, reserved in heaven for you,
  • who are kept guarded by [the] power of God through faith for salvation ready to be revealed in [the] last time.
  • who are kept by the power of God through faith for salvation ready to be revealed in the last time.
  • Wherein ye exult, for a little while at present, if needed, put to grief by various trials,
  • In this you greatly rejoice, though now for a little while, if need be, you have been [c]grieved by various trials,
  • that the proving of your faith, much more precious than of gold which perishes, though it be proved by fire, be found to praise and glory and honour in [the] revelation of Jesus Christ:
  • that the genuineness of your faith, being much more precious than gold that perishes, though it is tested by fire, may be found to praise, honor, and glory at the revelation of Jesus Christ,
  • whom, having not seen, ye love; on whom [though] not now looking, but believing, ye exult with joy unspeakable and filled with [the] glory,
  • whom having not [d]seen you love. Though now you do not see Him, yet believing, you rejoice with joy inexpressible and full of glory,
  • receiving the end of your faith, [the] salvation of [your] souls.
  • receiving the end of your faith — the salvation of your souls.
  • Concerning which salvation prophets, who have prophesied of the grace towards you, sought out and searched out;
  • Of this salvation the prophets have inquired and searched carefully, who prophesied of the grace that would come to you,
  • searching what, or what manner of time, the Spirit of Christ which [was] in them pointed out, testifying before of the sufferings which [belonged] to Christ, and the glories after these.
  • searching what, or what manner of time, the Spirit of Christ who was in them was indicating when He testified beforehand the sufferings of Christ and the glories that would follow.
  • To whom it was revealed, that not to themselves but to you they ministered those things, which have now been announced to you by those who have declared to you the glad tidings by [the] Holy Spirit, sent from heaven, which angels desire to look into.
  • To them it was revealed that, not to themselves, but to [e]us they were ministering the things which now have been reported to you through those who have preached the gospel to you by the Holy Spirit sent from heaven — things which angels desire to look into.
  • A Call to Be Holy

    Wherefore, having girded up the loins of your mind, [be] sober [and] hope with perfect stedfastness in the grace [which will be] brought to you at [the] revelation of Jesus Christ;
  • Living Before God Our Father

    Therefore gird up the loins of your mind, be sober, and rest your hope fully upon the grace that is to be brought to you at the revelation of Jesus Christ;
  • as children of obedience, not conformed to [your] former lusts in your ignorance;
  • as obedient children, not conforming yourselves to the former lusts, as in your ignorance;
  • but as he who has called you is holy, be ye also holy in all [your] conversation;
  • but as He who called you is holy, you also be holy in all your conduct,
  • because it is written, Be ye holy, for *I* am holy.
  • because it is written, “Be holy, for I am holy.”
  • And if ye invoke as Father him who, without regard of persons, judges according to the work of each, pass your time of sojourn in fear,
  • And if you call on the Father, who without partiality judges according to each one’s work, conduct yourselves throughout the time of your [f]stay here in fear;
  • knowing that ye have been redeemed, not by corruptible [things, as] silver or gold, from your vain conversation handed down from [your] fathers,
  • knowing that you were not redeemed with [g]corruptible things, like silver or gold, from your aimless conduct received by tradition from your fathers,
  • but by precious blood, as of a lamb without blemish and without spot, [the blood] of Christ,
  • but with the precious blood of Christ, as of a lamb without blemish and without spot.
  • foreknown indeed before [the] foundation of [the] world, but who has been manifested at the end of times for your sakes,
  • He indeed was foreordained before the foundation of the world, but was [h]manifest in these last times for you
  • who by him do believe on God, who has raised him from among [the] dead and given him glory, that your faith and hope should be in God.
  • who through Him believe in God, who raised Him from the dead and gave Him glory, so that your faith and hope are in God.
  • The Word of the Lord Stands Forever

    Having purified your souls by obedience to the truth to unfeigned brotherly love, love one another out of a pure heart fervently;
  • The Enduring Word

    Since you have purified your souls in obeying the truth [i]through the Spirit in [j]sincere love of the brethren, love one another fervently with a pure heart,
  • being born again, not of corruptible seed, but of incorruptible, by [the] living and abiding word of God.
  • having been born again, not of [k]corruptible seed but [l]incorruptible, through the word of God which lives and abides [m]forever,
  • Because all flesh [is] as grass, and all its glory as [the] flower of grass. The grass has withered and [its] flower has fallen;
  • because
    “All flesh is as grass,
    And all [n]the glory of man as the flower of the grass.
    The grass withers,
    And its flower falls away,
  • but the word of [the] Lord abides for eternity. But this is the word which in the glad tidings [is] preached to you.
  • But the [o]word of the Lord endures forever.”
    Now this is the word which by the gospel was preached to you.
