Darby Bible Translation

New American Standard Bible

  • Living for God's Glory

    Christ, then, having suffered for us in [the] flesh, do *ye* also arm yourselves with the same mind; for he that has suffered in [the] flesh has done with sin,
  • Keep Fervent in Your Love

    Therefore, since Christ has suffered in the flesh, arm yourselves also with the same purpose, because he who has suffered in the flesh has ceased from sin,
  • no longer to live the rest of [his] time in [the] flesh to men's lusts, but to God's will.
  • so as to live the rest of the time in the flesh no longer for the lusts of men, but for the will of God.
  • For the time past [is] sufficient [for us] to have wrought the will of the Gentiles, walking in lasciviousness, lusts, wine-drinking, revels, drinkings, and unhallowed idolatries.
  • For the time already past is sufficient for you to have carried out the desire of the Gentiles, having pursued a course of sensuality, lusts, drunkenness, carousing, drinking parties and abominable idolatries.
  • Wherein they think it strange that ye run not with [them] to the same sink of corruption, speaking injuriously [of you];
  • In all this, they are surprised that you do not run with them into the same excesses of dissipation, and they malign you;
  • who shall render account to him who is ready to judge [the] living and [the] dead.
  • but they will give account to Him who is ready to judge the living and the dead.
  • For to this [end] were the glad tidings preached to [the] dead also, that they might be judged, as regards men, after [the] flesh, but live, as regards God, after [the] Spirit.
  • For the gospel has for this purpose been preached even to those who are dead, that though they are judged in the flesh as men, they may live in the spirit according to the will of God.
  • But the end of all things is drawn nigh: be sober therefore, and be watchful unto prayers;
  • The end of all things is near; therefore, be of sound judgment and sober spirit for the purpose of prayer.
  • but before all things having fervent love among yourselves, because love covers a multitude of sins;
  • Above all, keep fervent in your love for one another, because love covers a multitude of sins.
  • hospitable one to another, without murmuring;
  • Be hospitable to one another without complaint.
  • each according as he has received a gift, ministering it to one another, as good stewards of [the] various grace of God.
  • As each one has received a special gift, employ it in serving one another as good stewards of the manifold grace of God.
  • If any one speak -- as oracles of God; if any one minister -- as of strength which God supplies; that God in all things may be glorified through Jesus Christ, to whom is the glory and the might for the ages of ages. Amen.
  • Whoever speaks, is to do so as one who is speaking the utterances of God; whoever serves is to do so as one who is serving by the strength which God supplies; so that in all things God may be glorified through Jesus Christ, to whom belongs the glory and dominion forever and ever. Amen.
  • Suffering as Christians

    Beloved, take not [as] strange the fire [of persecution] which has taken place amongst you for [your] trial, as if a strange thing was happening to you;

  • Share the Sufferings of Christ

    Beloved, do not be surprised at the fiery ordeal among you, which comes upon you for your testing, as though some strange thing were happening to you;
  • but as ye have share in the sufferings of Christ, rejoice, that in the revelation of his glory also ye may rejoice with exultation.
  • but to the degree that you share the sufferings of Christ, keep on rejoicing, so that also at the revelation of His glory you may rejoice with exultation.
  • If ye are reproached in [the] name of Christ, blessed [are ye]; for the [Spirit] of glory and the Spirit of God rests upon you: [on their part he is blasphemed, but on your part he is glorified.]
  • If you are reviled for the name of Christ, you are blessed, because the Spirit of glory and of God rests on you.
  • Let none of you suffer indeed as murderer, or thief, or evildoer, or as overseer of other people's matters;
  • Make sure that none of you suffers as a murderer, or thief, or evildoer, or a troublesome meddler;
  • but if as a christian, let him not be ashamed, but glorify God in this name.
  • but if anyone suffers as a Christian, he is not to be ashamed, but is to glorify God in this name.
  • For the time of having the judgment begin from the house of God [is come]; but if first from us, what [shall be] the end of those who obey not the glad tidings of God?
  • For it is time for judgment to begin with the household of God; and if it begins with us first, what will be the outcome for those who do not obey the gospel of God?
  • And if the righteous is difficultly saved, where shall the impious and [the] sinner appear?
  • AND IF IT IS WITH DIFFICULTY THAT THE RIGHTEOUS IS SAVED, WHAT WILL BECOME OF THE GODLESS MAN AND THE SINNER?
  • Wherefore also let them who suffer according to the will of God commit their souls in well-doing to a faithful Creator.
  • Therefore, those also who suffer according to the will of God shall entrust their souls to a faithful Creator in doing what is right.
