Darby Bible Translation

New King James Version

  • Greetings from Peter

    Simon Peter, bondman and apostle of Jesus Christ, to them that have received like precious faith with us through [the] righteousness of our God and Saviour Jesus Christ:
  • Greeting the Faithful

    Simon Peter, a bondservant and apostle of Jesus Christ,
    To those who have [a]obtained like[b] precious faith with us by the righteousness of our God and Savior Jesus Christ:
  • Grace and peace be multiplied to you in [the] knowledge of God and of Jesus our Lord.
  • Grace and peace be multiplied to you in the knowledge of God and of Jesus our Lord,
  • Make Your Calling Sure

    As his divine power has given to us all things which relate to life and godliness, through the knowledge of him that has called us by glory and virtue,
  • as His divine power has given to us all things that pertain to life and godliness, through the knowledge of Him who called us by glory and virtue,
  • through which he has given to us the greatest and precious promises, that through these ye may become partakers of [the] divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust.
  • by which have been given to us exceedingly great and precious promises, that through these you may be partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the [c]corruption that is in the world through lust.
  • But for this very reason also, using therewith all diligence, in your faith have also virtue, in virtue knowledge,
  • Fruitful Growth in the Faith

    But also for this very reason, giving all diligence, add to your faith virtue, to virtue knowledge,
  • in knowledge temperance, in temperance endurance, in endurance godliness,
  • to knowledge self-control, to self-control [d]perseverance, to perseverance godliness,
  • in godliness brotherly love, in brotherly love love:
  • to godliness brotherly kindness, and to brotherly kindness love.
  • for these things existing and abounding in you make [you] to be neither idle nor unfruitful as regards the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ;
  • For if these things are yours and abound, you will be neither [e]barren nor unfruitful in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ.
  • for he with whom these things are not present is blind, short-sighted, and has forgotten the purging of his former sins.
  • For he who lacks these things is shortsighted, even to blindness, and has forgotten that he was cleansed from his old sins.
  • Wherefore the rather, brethren, use diligence to make your calling and election sure, for doing these things ye will never fall;
  • Therefore, brethren, be even more diligent to make your call and election sure, for if you do these things you will never stumble;
  • for thus shall the entrance into the everlasting kingdom of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ be richly furnished unto you.
  • for so an entrance will be supplied to you abundantly into the everlasting kingdom of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
  • Remember These Things

    Wherefore I will be careful to put you always in mind of these things, although knowing [them] and established in the present truth.
  • Peter’s Approaching Death

    For this reason I will not be negligent to remind you always of these things, though you know and are established in the present truth.
  • But I account it right, as long as I am in this tabernacle, to stir you up by putting [you] in remembrance,
  • Yes, I think it is right, as long as I am in this [f]tent, to stir you up by reminding you,
  • knowing that the putting off of my tabernacle is speedily [to take place], as also our Lord Jesus Christ has manifested to me;
  • knowing that shortly I must [g]put off my tent, just as our Lord Jesus Christ showed me.
  • but I will use diligence, that after my departure ye should have also, at any time, [in your power] to call to mind these things.
  • Moreover I will be careful to ensure that you always have a reminder of these things after my [h]decease.
  • We were Eyewitnesses

    For we have not made known to you the power and coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, following cleverly imagined fables, but having been eyewitnesses of *his* majesty.
  • The Trustworthy Prophetic Word

    For we did not follow cunningly devised fables when we made known to you the power and coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, but were eyewitnesses of His majesty.
  • For he received from God [the] Father honour and glory, such a voice being uttered to him by the excellent glory: This is my beloved Son, in whom *I* have found my delight;
  • For He received from God the Father honor and glory when such a voice came to Him from the Excellent Glory: “This is My beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased.”
  • and this voice *we* heard uttered from heaven, being with him on the holy mountain.
  • And we heard this voice which came from heaven when we were with Him on the holy mountain.
  • And we have the prophetic word [made] surer, to which ye do well taking heed (as to a lamp shining in an obscure place) until [the] day dawn and [the] morning star arise in your hearts;
  • [i]And so we have the prophetic word confirmed, which you do well to heed as a light that shines in a dark place, until the day dawns and the morning star rises in your hearts;
  • knowing this first, that [the scope of] no prophecy of scripture is had from its own particular interpretation,
  • knowing this first, that no prophecy of Scripture is of any private [j]interpretation,
  • for prophecy was not ever uttered by [the] will of man, but holy men of God spake under the power of [the] Holy Spirit.
  • for prophecy never came by the will of man, but [k]holy men of God spoke as they were moved by the Holy Spirit.
