Darby Bible Translation

New Living Translation

  • The Feast of the Passover

Keep the month of Abib, and celebrate the passover to Jehovah thy God; for in the month of Abib Jehovah thy God brought thee forth out of Egypt by night.
  • Passover and the Festival of Unleavened Bread

“In honor of the LORD your God, celebrate the Passover each year in the early spring, in the month of Abib,a for that was the month in which the LORD your God brought you out of Egypt by night.
  • And thou shalt sacrifice the passover to Jehovah thy God, of the flock and of the herd, in the place which Jehovah will choose to cause his name to dwell there.
  • Your Passover sacrifice may be from either the flock or the herd, and it must be sacrificed to the LORD your God at the designated place of worship — the place he chooses for his name to be honored.
  • Thou shalt eat no leavened bread along with it; seven days shalt thou eat unleavened bread with it, bread of affliction; for thou camest forth out of the land of Egypt in haste, -- that thou mayest remember the day when thou camest forth out of the land of Egypt, all the days of thy life.
  • Eat it with bread made without yeast. For seven days the bread you eat must be made without yeast, as when you escaped from Egypt in such a hurry. Eat this bread — the bread of suffering — so that as long as you live you will remember the day you departed from Egypt.
  • And there shall be no leaven seen with thee in all thy borders seven days; neither shall any of the flesh, which thou sacrificedst at even on the first day, be left over night until the morning. --
  • Let no yeast be found in any house throughout your land for those seven days. And when you sacrifice the Passover lamb on the evening of the first day, do not let any of the meat remain until the next morning.
  • Thou mayest not sacrifice the passover in one of thy gates, which Jehovah thy God giveth thee;
  • “You may not sacrifice the Passover in just any of the towns that the LORD your God is giving you.
  • but at the place that Jehovah thy God will choose, to cause his name to dwell in, there thou shalt sacrifice the passover at even, at the going down of the sun, at the time that thou camest forth out of Egypt.
  • You must offer it only at the designated place of worship — the place the LORD your God chooses for his name to be honored. Sacrifice it there in the evening as the sun goes down on the anniversary of your exodus from Egypt.
  • And thou shalt cook and eat it at the place which Jehovah thy God will choose; and in the morning shalt thou turn and go unto thy tents.
  • Roast the lamb and eat it in the place the LORD your God chooses. Then you may go back to your tents the next morning.
  • Six days thou shalt eat unleavened bread, and on the seventh day is a solemn assembly to Jehovah thy God; thou shalt do no work.
  • For the next six days you may not eat any bread made with yeast. On the seventh day proclaim another holy day in honor of the LORD your God, and no work may be done on that day.
  • The Feast of Weeks

Seven weeks shalt thou count: from the beginning of putting the sickle into the corn shalt thou begin to count seven weeks.

  • The Festival of Harvest

“Count off seven weeks from when you first begin to cut the grain at the time of harvest.
  • And thou shalt hold the feast of weeks to Jehovah thy God with a tribute of a voluntary-offering of thy hand, which thou shalt give, according as Jehovah thy God hath blessed thee;
  • Then celebrate the Festival of Harvestb to honor the LORD your God. Bring him a voluntary offering in proportion to the blessings you have received from him.
  • and thou shalt rejoice before Jehovah thy God, thou, and thy son, and thy daughter, and thy bondman, and thy handmaid, and the Levite that is in thy gates, and the stranger, and the fatherless, and the widow that are in thy midst in the place that Jehovah thy God will choose to cause his name to dwell there.
  • This is a time to celebrate before the LORD your God at the designated place of worship he will choose for his name to be honored. Celebrate with your sons and daughters, your male and female servants, the Levites from your towns, and the foreigners, orphans, and widows who live among you.
  • And thou shalt remember that thou wast a bondman in Egypt, and thou shalt keep and do these statutes.
  • Remember that you were once slaves in Egypt, so be careful to obey all these decrees.
  • The Feast of Tabernacles

The feast of tabernacles shalt thou hold seven days, when thou hast gathered in [the produce] of thy floor and of thy winepress.

  • The Festival of Shelters

“You must observe the Festival of Sheltersc for seven days at the end of the harvest season, after the grain has been threshed and the grapes have been pressed.
  • And thou shalt rejoice in thy feast, thou, and thy son, and thy daughter, and thy bondman, and thy handmaid, and the Levite, and the stranger, and the fatherless, and the widow, that are in thy gates.
  • This festival will be a happy time of celebrating with your sons and daughters, your male and female servants, and the Levites, foreigners, orphans, and widows from your towns.
  • Seven days shalt thou hold a feast to Jehovah thy God in the place which Jehovah will choose; for Jehovah thy God will bless thee in all thy produce, and in all the work of thy hands, and thou shalt be wholly joyful.
  • For seven days you must celebrate this festival to honor the LORD your God at the place he chooses, for it is he who blesses you with bountiful harvests and gives you success in all your work. This festival will be a time of great joy for all.
  • Three times in the year shall all thy males appear before Jehovah thy God in the place which he will choose, at the feast of unleavened bread, and at the feast of weeks, and at the feast of tabernacles; and they shall not appear before Jehovah empty:
  • “Each year every man in Israel must celebrate these three festivals: the Festival of Unleavened Bread, the Festival of Harvest, and the Festival of Shelters. On each of these occasions, all men must appear before the LORD your God at the place he chooses, but they must not appear before the LORD without a gift for him.
  • each [shall give] according to that which is in his power to give, according to the blessing of Jehovah thy God which he hath given thee.
  • All must give as they are able, according to the blessings given to them by the LORD your God.
  • Judges and Justice

Judges and officers shalt thou make thee in all thy gates, which Jehovah thy God giveth thee, throughout thy tribes, that they may judge the people with just judgment.

  • Justice for the People

“Appoint judges and officials for yourselves from each of your tribes in all the towns the LORD your God is giving you. They must judge the people fairly.
  • Thou shalt not wrest judgment; thou shalt not respect persons, neither take a bribe; for the bribe blindeth the eyes of the wise, and perverteth the words of the righteous.
  • You must never twist justice or show partiality. Never accept a bribe, for bribes blind the eyes of the wise and corrupt the decisions of the godly.
  • Perfect justice shalt thou follow, that thou mayest live, and possess the land that Jehovah thy God giveth thee.
  • Let true justice prevail, so you may live and occupy the land that the LORD your God is giving you.
  • Forbidden Forms of Worship

Thou shalt not plant thyself an Asherah of any wood near unto the altar of Jehovah thy God, which thou shalt make thee.
  • “You must never set up a wooden Asherah pole beside the altar you build for the LORD your God.
  • Neither shalt thou set thee up a statue, which Jehovah thy God hateth.
  • And never set up sacred pillars for worship, for the LORD your God hates them.
