Darby Bible Translation

New King James Version

  • Casting out the Nations

    When Jehovah thy God shall bring thee into the land whither thou goest to possess it, and shall cast out many nations from before thee, the Hittites, and the Girgashites, and the Amorites, and the Canaanites, and the Perizzites, and the Hivites, and the Jebusites, seven nations greater and mightier than thou,
  • A Chosen People

    “When the Lord your God brings you into the land which you go to possess, and has cast out many nations before you, the Hittites and the Girgashites and the Amorites and the Canaanites and the Perizzites and the Hivites and the Jebusites, seven nations greater and mightier than you,
  • and when Jehovah thy God shall give them up before thee and thou shalt smite them, then shalt thou utterly destroy them: thou shalt make no covenant with them, nor shew mercy unto them.
  • and when the Lord your God delivers them over to you, you shall conquer them and utterly destroy them. You shall make no covenant with them nor show mercy to them.
  • And thou shalt make no marriages with them: thy daughter thou shalt not give unto his son, nor take his daughter for thy son;
  • Nor shall you make marriages with them. You shall not give your daughter to their son, nor take their daughter for your son.
  • for he will turn away thy son from following me, and they will serve other gods, and the anger of Jehovah will be kindled against you, and he will destroy thee quickly.
  • For they will turn your sons away from following Me, to serve other gods; so the anger of the Lord will be aroused against you and destroy you suddenly.
  • But thus shall ye deal with them: ye shall break down their altars, and shatter their statues, and hew down their Asherahs, and burn their graven images with fire.
  • But thus you shall deal with them: you shall destroy their altars, and break down their sacred pillars, and cut down their [a]wooden images, and burn their carved images with fire.
  • For a holy people art thou unto Jehovah thy God: Jehovah thy God hath chosen thee to be unto him a people for a possession, above all the peoples that are upon the face of the earth.
  • “For you are a [b]holy people to the Lord your God; the Lord your God has chosen you to be a people for Himself, a special treasure above all the peoples on the face of the earth.
  • Not because ye were more in number than all the peoples, hath Jehovah been attached to you and chosen you, for ye are the fewest of all the peoples;
  • The Lord did not set His love on you nor choose you because you were more in number than any other people, for you were the least of all peoples;
  • but because Jehovah loved you, and because he would keep the oath which he had sworn unto your fathers, hath Jehovah brought you out with a powerful hand, and redeemed you out of the house of bondage, from the hand of Pharaoh king of Egypt.
  • but because the Lord loves you, and because He would keep the oath which He swore to your fathers, the Lord has brought you out with a mighty hand, and redeemed you from the house of [c]bondage, from the hand of Pharaoh king of Egypt.
  • And thou shalt know that Jehovah thy God, he is God, the faithful God, who keepeth covenant and mercy to a thousand generations with them that love him and keep his commandments;
  • “Therefore know that the Lord your God, He is God, the faithful God who keeps covenant and mercy for a thousand generations with those who love Him and keep His commandments;
  • and repayeth them that hate him [each] to his face, to cause them to perish: he delayeth not with him that hateth him, he will repay him to his face.
  • and He repays those who hate Him to their face, to destroy them. He will not [d]be slack with him who hates Him; He will repay him to his face.
  • And thou shalt keep the commandment, and the statutes, and the ordinances, which I command thee this day, to do them.
  • Therefore you shall keep the commandment, the statutes, and the judgments which I command you today, to observe them.
  • God's Promises

    And it shall come to pass, if ye hearken to these ordinances, and keep and do them, that Jehovah thy God will keep with thee the covenant and the mercy which he swore unto thy fathers;
  • Blessings of Obedience

    “Then it shall come to pass, because you listen to these judgments, and keep and do them, that the Lord your God will keep with you the covenant and the mercy which He swore to your fathers.
  • and he will love thee, and bless thee, and multiply thee, and will bless the fruit of thy womb, and the fruit of thy ground, thy corn and thy new wine, and thine oil, the offspring of thy kine, and the increase of thy sheep, in the land which he swore unto thy fathers to give thee.
  • And He will love you and bless you and [e]multiply you; He will also bless the fruit of your womb and the fruit of your land, your grain and your new wine and your oil, the increase of your cattle and the offspring of your flock, in the land of which He [f]swore to your fathers to give you.
  • Thou shalt be blessed above all the peoples; there shall not be male or female barren with thee, or with thy cattle;
  • You shall be blessed above all peoples; there shall not be a male or female barren among you or among your livestock.
  • and Jehovah will take away from thee all sickness, and none of the evil infirmities of Egypt, which thou knowest, will he put upon thee; but he will lay them upon all them that hate thee.
  • And the Lord will take away from you all sickness, and will afflict you with none of the terrible diseases of Egypt which you have known, but will lay them on all those who hate you.
  • And thou shalt consume all the peoples that Jehovah thy God will give up unto thee; thine eye shall not spare them, and thou shalt not serve their gods; for that would be a snare unto thee.
  • Also you shall [g]destroy all the peoples whom the Lord your God delivers over to you; your eye shall have no pity on them; nor shall you serve their gods, for that will be a snare to you.
  • If thou shouldest say in thy heart, These nations are greater than I; how can I dispossess them?
  • “If you should say in your heart, ‘These nations are greater than I; how can I dispossess them?’ —
  • fear them not; remember well what Jehovah thy God did unto Pharaoh, and unto all the Egyptians;
  • you shall not be afraid of them, but you shall remember well what the Lord your God did to Pharaoh and to all Egypt:
  • the great trials which thine eyes saw, and the signs, and the wonders, and the powerful hand, and the stretched-out arm, whereby Jehovah thy God brought thee out: so will Jehovah thy God do unto all the peoples whom thou fearest.
  • the great trials which your eyes saw, the signs and the wonders, the mighty hand and the outstretched arm, by which the Lord your God brought you out. So shall the Lord your God do to all the peoples of whom you are afraid.
  • Moreover, Jehovah thy God will send the hornet among them, until they that are left, and they that hide themselves from thee, are destroyed.
  • Moreover the Lord your God will send the hornet among them until those who are left, who hide themselves from you, are destroyed.
  • Thou shalt not be afraid of them; for Jehovah thy God is in thy midst, a God great and terrible.
  • You shall not be terrified of them; for the Lord your God, the great and awesome God, is among you.
  • And Jehovah thy God will cast out those nations from before thee by little and little; thou shalt not be able to make an end of them at once, lest the beasts of the field increase upon thee.
  • And the Lord your God will drive out those nations before you little by little; you will be unable to [h]destroy them at once, lest the beasts of the field become too numerous for you.
  • But Jehovah thy God will give them up before thee, and will confound them with great consternation, until they are destroyed.
  • But the Lord your God will deliver them over to you, and will inflict defeat upon them until they are destroyed.
  • And he will give their kings into thy hand, and thou shalt put out their name from under the heavens; no man shall stand before thee, until thou hast destroyed them.
  • And He will deliver their kings into your hand, and you will destroy their name from under heaven; no one shall be able to stand [i]against you until you have destroyed them.
  • The graven images of their gods shall ye burn with fire; thou shalt not covet the silver and gold [that is] on them and take it unto thee, lest thou be ensnared therein; for it is an abomination to Jehovah thy God.
  • You shall burn the carved images of their gods with fire; you shall not covet[j] the silver or gold that is on them, nor take it for yourselves, lest you be snared by it; for it is an abomination to the Lord your God.
  • And thou shalt not bring an abomination into thy house, lest thou be a cursed thing like it: thou shalt utterly detest it, and thou shalt utterly abhor it; for it is a cursed thing.
  • Nor shall you bring an abomination into your house, lest you be doomed to destruction like it. You shall utterly detest it and utterly abhor it, for it is an [k]accursed thing.
