Darby Bible Translation

New American Standard Bible

  • Remember the Lord Your God

    Every commandment which I command thee this day shall ye take heed to do, that ye may live, and multiply, and enter in and possess the land which Jehovah swore unto your fathers.
  • God’s Gracious Dealings

    “All the commandments that I am commanding you today you shall be careful to do, that you may live and multiply, and go in and possess the land which the LORD swore to give to your forefathers.
  • And thou shalt remember all the way which Jehovah thy God led thee these forty years in the wilderness, to humble thee, and to prove thee, to know what was in thy heart, whether thou wouldest keep his commandments or not.
  • “You shall remember all the way which the LORD your God has led you in the wilderness these forty years, that He might humble you, testing you, to know what was in your heart, whether you would keep His commandments or not.
  • And he humbled thee, and suffered thee to hunger, and fed thee with the manna, which thou hadst not known, and which thy fathers knew not; that he might make thee know that man doth not live by bread alone, but by everything that goeth out of the mouth of Jehovah doth man live.
  • “He humbled you and let you be hungry, and fed you with manna which you did not know, nor did your fathers know, that He might make you understand that man does not live by bread alone, but man lives by everything that proceeds out of the mouth of the LORD.
  • Thy clothing grew not old upon thee, neither did thy foot swell, these forty years.
  • “Your clothing did not wear out on you, nor did your foot swell these forty years.
  • And know in thy heart that, as a man chasteneth his son, so Jehovah thy God chasteneth thee;
  • “Thus you are to know in your heart that the LORD your God was disciplining you just as a man disciplines his son.
  • and thou shalt keep the commandments of Jehovah thy God, to walk in his ways, and to fear him.
  • “Therefore, you shall keep the commandments of the LORD your God, to walk in His ways and to fear Him.
  • For Jehovah thy God bringeth thee into a good land, a land of water-brooks, of springs, and of deep waters, that gush forth in the valleys and hills;
  • “For the LORD your God is bringing you into a good land, a land of brooks of water, of fountains and springs, flowing forth in valleys and hills;
  • a land of wheat, and barley, and vines, and fig-trees, and pomegranates; a land of olive-trees and honey;
  • a land of wheat and barley, of vines and fig trees and pomegranates, a land of olive oil and honey;
  • a land wherein thou shalt eat bread without scarceness, where thou shalt lack nothing; a land whose stones are iron, and out of whose mountains thou wilt dig copper.
  • a land where you will eat food without scarcity, in which you will not lack anything; a land whose stones are iron, and out of whose hills you can dig copper.
  • And thou shalt eat and be filled, and shalt bless Jehovah thy God for the good land which he hath given thee.
  • “When you have eaten and are satisfied, you shall bless the LORD your God for the good land which He has given you.
  • Beware that thou forget not Jehovah thy God, in not keeping his commandments, and his ordinances, and his statutes, which I command thee this day;
  • “Beware that you do not forget the LORD your God by not keeping His commandments and His ordinances and His statutes which I am commanding you today;
  • lest when thou hast eaten and art full, and hast built and inhabited fine houses,
  • otherwise, when you have eaten and are satisfied, and have built good houses and lived in them,
  • and thy herds and thy flocks multiply, and thy silver and thy gold is multiplied, and all that thou hast is multiplied,
  • and when your herds and your flocks multiply, and your silver and gold multiply, and all that you have multiplies,
  • then thy heart be lifted up, and thou forget Jehovah thy God, who brought thee forth out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of bondage;
  • then your heart will become proud and you will forget the LORD your God who brought you out from the land of Egypt, out of the house of slavery.
  • who led thee through the great and terrible wilderness, [a wilderness of] fiery serpents, and scorpions, and drought, where there is no water; who brought thee forth water out of the rock of flint;
  • “He led you through the great and terrible wilderness, with its fiery serpents and scorpions and thirsty ground where there was no water; He brought water for you out of the rock of flint.
  • who fed thee in the wilderness with manna, which thy fathers knew not, that he might humble thee, and that he might prove thee, to do thee good at thy latter end;
  • “In the wilderness He fed you manna which your fathers did not know, that He might humble you and that He might test you, to do good for you in the end.
  • And thou say in thy heart, my power And the might of my hand has procured me This wealth.
  • “Otherwise, you may say in your heart, ‘My power and the strength of my hand made me this wealth.’
  • But thou shalt remember Jehovah thy God, that it is he who giveth thee power to get wealth, that he may establish his covenant which he swore unto thy fathers, as it is this day.
  • “But you shall remember the LORD your God, for it is He who is giving you power to make wealth, that He may confirm His covenant which He swore to your fathers, as it is this day.
  • And it shall be, if thou do at all forget Jehovah thy God, and go after other gods, and serve them, and bow down to them, I testify against you this day that ye shall utterly perish.
  • “It shall come about if you ever forget the LORD your God and go after other gods and serve them and worship them, I testify against you today that you will surely perish.
  • As the nations which Jehovah is causing to perish before you, so shall ye perish; because ye would not hearken unto the voice of Jehovah your God.
  • “Like the nations that the LORD makes to perish before you, so you shall perish; because you would not listen to the voice of the LORD your God.
