Darby Bible Translation

English Standard Version

  • Living Sacrifices

    I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the compassions of God, to present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable to God, [which is] your intelligent service.
  • A Living Sacrifice

    I appeal to you therefore, brothers,a by the mercies of God, to present your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable to God, which is your spiritual worship.b
  • And be not conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of [your] mind, that ye may prove what [is] the good and acceptable and perfect will of God.
  • Do not be conformed to this world,c but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect.d
  • For I say, through the grace which has been given to me, to every one that is among you, not to have high thoughts above what he should think; but to think so as to be wise, as God has dealt to each a measure of faith.
  • Gifts of Grace

    For by the grace given to me I say to everyone among you not to think of himself more highly than he ought to think, but to think with sober judgment, each according to the measure of faith that God has assigned.
  • For, as in one body we have many members, but all the members have not the same office;
  • For as in one body we have many members,e and the members do not all have the same function,
  • thus we, [being] many, are one body in Christ, and each one members one of the other.
  • so we, though many, are one body in Christ, and individually members one of another.
  • But having different gifts, according to the grace which has been given to us, whether [it be] prophecy, [let us prophesy] according to the proportion of faith;
  • Having gifts that differ according to the grace given to us, let us use them: if prophecy, in proportion to our faith;
  • or service, [let us occupy ourselves] in service; or he that teaches, in teaching;
  • if service, in our serving; the one who teaches, in his teaching;
  • or he that exhorts, in exhortation; he that gives, in simplicity; he that leads, with diligence; he that shews mercy, with cheerfulness.
  • the one who exhorts, in his exhortation; the one who contributes, in generosity; the one who leads,f with zeal; the one who does acts of mercy, with cheerfulness.
  • Love, Zeal, Hope, Hospitality

    Let love be unfeigned; abhorring evil; cleaving to good:
  • Marks of the True Christian

    Let love be genuine. Abhor what is evil; hold fast to what is good.
  • as to brotherly love, kindly affectioned towards one another: as to honour, each taking the lead in paying it to the other:
  • Love one another with brotherly affection. Outdo one another in showing honor.
  • as to diligent zealousness, not slothful; in spirit fervent; serving the Lord.
  • Do not be slothful in zeal, be fervent in spirit,g serve the Lord.
  • As regards hope, rejoicing: as regards tribulation, enduring: as regards prayer, persevering:
  • Rejoice in hope, be patient in tribulation, be constant in prayer.
  • distributing to the necessities of the saints; given to hospitality.
  • Contribute to the needs of the saints and seek to show hospitality.
  • Forgiveness

    Bless them that persecute you; bless, and curse not.
  • Bless those who persecute you; bless and do not curse them.
  • Rejoice with those that rejoice, weep with those that weep.
  • Rejoice with those who rejoice, weep with those who weep.
  • Have the same respect one for another, not minding high things, but going along with the lowly: be not wise in your own eyes:
  • Live in harmony with one another. Do not be haughty, but associate with the lowly.h Never be wise in your own sight.
  • recompensing to no one evil for evil: providing things honest before all men:
  • Repay no one evil for evil, but give thought to do what is honorable in the sight of all.
  • if possible, as far as depends on you, living in peace with all men;
  • If possible, so far as it depends on you, live peaceably with all.
  • not avenging yourselves, beloved, but give place to wrath; for it is written, Vengeance [belongs] to me, *I* will recompense, saith the Lord.
  • Beloved, never avenge yourselves, but leave iti to the wrath of God, for it is written, “Vengeance is mine, I will repay, says the Lord.”
  • If therefore thine enemy should hunger, feed him; if he should thirst, give him drink; for, so doing, thou shalt heap coals of fire upon his head.
  • To the contrary, “if your enemy is hungry, feed him; if he is thirsty, give him something to drink; for by so doing you will heap burning coals on his head.”
  • Be not overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good.
  • Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good.
