Darby Bible Translation

New Living Translation

  • Paul and Apollos God's Fellow Workers

    And *I*, brethren, have not been able to speak to you as to spiritual, but as to fleshly; as to babes in Christ.
  • Paul and Apollos, Servants of Christ

    Dear brothers and sisters,a when I was with you I couldn’t talk to you as I would to spiritual people.b I had to talk as though you belonged to this world or as though you were infants in Christ.
  • I have given you milk to drink, not meat, for ye have not yet been able, nor indeed are ye yet able;
  • I had to feed you with milk, not with solid food, because you weren’t ready for anything stronger. And you still aren’t ready,
  • for ye are yet carnal. For whereas [there are] among you emulation and strife, are ye not carnal, and walk according to man?
  • for you are still controlled by your sinful nature. You are jealous of one another and quarrel with each other. Doesn’t that prove you are controlled by your sinful nature? Aren’t you living like people of the world?
  • For when one says, *I* am of Paul, and another, *I* of Apollos, are ye not men?
  • When one of you says, “I am a follower of Paul,” and another says, “I follow Apollos,” aren’t you acting just like people of the world?
  • Who then is Apollos, and who Paul? Ministering servants, through whom ye have believed, and as the Lord has given to each.
  • After all, who is Apollos? Who is Paul? We are only God’s servants through whom you believed the Good News. Each of us did the work the Lord gave us.
  • *I* have planted; Apollos watered; but God has given the increase.
  • I planted the seed in your hearts, and Apollos watered it, but it was God who made it grow.
  • So that neither the planter is anything, nor the waterer; but God the giver of the increase.
  • It’s not important who does the planting, or who does the watering. What’s important is that God makes the seed grow.
  • But the planter and the waterer are one; but each shall receive his own reward according to his own labour.
  • The one who plants and the one who waters work together with the same purpose. And both will be rewarded for their own hard work.
  • For we are God's fellow-workmen; ye are God's husbandry, God's building.
  • For we are both God’s workers. And you are God’s field. You are God’s building.
  • Christ the Only Foundation

    According to the grace of God which has been given to me, as a wise architect, I have laid the foundation, but another builds upon it. But let each see how he builds upon it.
  • Because of God’s grace to me, I have laid the foundation like an expert builder. Now others are building on it. But whoever is building on this foundation must be very careful.
  • For other foundation can no man lay besides that which [is] laid, which is Jesus Christ.
  • For no one can lay any foundation other than the one we already have — Jesus Christ.
  • Now if any one build upon [this] foundation, gold, silver, precious stones, wood, grass, straw,
  • Anyone who builds on that foundation may use a variety of materials — gold, silver, jewels, wood, hay, or straw.
  • the work of each shall be made manifest; for the day shall declare [it], because it is revealed in fire; and the fire shall try the work of each what it is.
  • But on the judgment day, fire will reveal what kind of work each builder has done. The fire will show if a person’s work has any value.
  • If the work of any one which he has built upon [the foundation] shall abide, he shall receive a reward.
  • If the work survives, that builder will receive a reward.
  • If the work of any one shall be consumed, he shall suffer loss, but *he* shall be saved, but so as through [the] fire.
  • But if the work is burned up, the builder will suffer great loss. The builder will be saved, but like someone barely escaping through a wall of flames.
  • You are God's Temple

    Do ye not know that ye are [the] temple of God, and [that] the Spirit of God dwells in you?
  • Don’t you realize that all of you together are the temple of God and that the Spirit of God lives inc you?
  • If any one corrupt the temple of God, *him* shall God destroy; for the temple of God is holy, and such are *ye*.
  • God will destroy anyone who destroys this temple. For God’s temple is holy, and you are that temple.
  • Let no one deceive himself: if any one thinks himself to be wise among you in this world, let him become foolish, that he may be wise.
  • Stop deceiving yourselves. If you think you are wise by this world’s standards, you need to become a fool to be truly wise.
  • Worldly Wisdom is Foolishness to God

    For the wisdom of this world is foolishness with God; for it is written, He who takes the wise in their craftiness.
  • For the wisdom of this world is foolishness to God. As the Scriptures say,
    “He traps the wise
    in the snare of their own cleverness.”d
  • And again, [The] Lord knows the reasonings of the wise that they are vain.
  • And again,
    “The LORD knows the thoughts of the wise;
    he knows they are worthless.”e
  • So that let no one boast in men; for all things are yours.
  • So don’t boast about following a particular human leader. For everything belongs to you —
  • Whether Paul, or Apollos, or Cephas, or [the] world, or life, or death, or things present, or things coming, all are yours;
  • whether Paul or Apollos or Peter,f or the world, or life and death, or the present and the future. Everything belongs to you,
  • and *ye* [are] Christ's, and Christ [is] God's.
  • and you belong to Christ, and Christ belongs to God.
