  • Ministers of a New Covenant

    Do we begin again to commend ourselves? or do we need, as some, commendatory letters to you, or [commendatory] from you?
  • Christ’s Epistle

    Do we begin again to commend ourselves? Or do we need, as some others, epistles of commendation to you or letters of commendation from you?
  • *Ye* are our letter, written in our hearts, known and read of all men,
  • You are our epistle written in our hearts, known and read by all men;
  • being manifested to be Christ's epistle ministered by us, written, not with ink, but [the] Spirit of [the] living God; not on stone tables, but on fleshy tables of [the] heart.
  • clearly you are an epistle of Christ, ministered by us, written not with ink but by the Spirit of the living God, not on tablets of stone but on tablets of flesh, that is, of the heart.
  • And such confidence have we through the Christ towards God:
  • The Spirit, Not the Letter

    And we have such trust through Christ toward God.
  • not that we are competent of ourselves to think anything as of ourselves, but our competency [is] of God;
  • Not that we are sufficient of ourselves to think of anything as being from ourselves, but our sufficiency is from God,
  • who has also made us competent, [as] ministers of [the] new covenant; not of letter, but of spirit. For the letter kills, but the Spirit quickens.
  • who also made us sufficient as ministers of the new covenant, not of the letter but of the [a]Spirit; for the letter kills, but the Spirit gives life.
  • The Glory of the New Covenant

    (But if the ministry of death, in letters, graven in stones, began with glory, so that the children of Israel could not fix their eyes on the face of Moses, on account of the glory of his face, [a glory] which is annulled;
  • Glory of the New Covenant

    But if the ministry of death, written and engraved on stones, was glorious, so that the children of Israel could not look steadily at the face of Moses because of the glory of his countenance, which glory was passing away,
  • how shall not rather the ministry of the Spirit subsist in glory?
  • how will the ministry of the Spirit not be more glorious?
  • For if the ministry of condemnation [be] glory, much rather the ministry of righteousness abounds in glory.
  • For if the ministry of condemnation had glory, the ministry of righteousness exceeds much more in glory.
  • For also that [which was] glorified is not glorified in this respect, on account of the surpassing glory.
  • For even what was made glorious had no glory in this respect, because of the glory that excels.
  • For if that annulled [was introduced] with glory, much rather that which abides [subsists] in glory.
  • For if what is passing away was glorious, what remains is much more glorious.
  • Having therefore such hope, we use much boldness:
  • Therefore, since we have such hope, we use great boldness of speech —
  • and not according as Moses put a veil on his own face, so that the children of Israel should not fix their eyes on the end of that annulled.
  • unlike Moses, who put a veil over his face so that the children of Israel could not look steadily at the end of what was passing away.
  • But their thoughts have been darkened, for unto this day the same veil remains in reading the old covenant, unremoved, which in Christ is annulled.
  • But their minds were blinded. For until this day the same veil remains unlifted in the reading of the Old Testament, because the veil is taken away in Christ.
  • But unto this day, when Moses is read, the veil lies upon their heart.
  • But even to this day, when Moses is read, a veil lies on their heart.
  • But when it shall turn to [the] Lord, the veil is taken away.)
  • Nevertheless when one turns to the Lord, the veil is taken away.
  • Now the Lord is the Spirit, but where the Spirit of [the] Lord [is, there is] liberty.
  • Now the Lord is the Spirit; and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty.
  • But *we* all, looking on the glory of the Lord, with unveiled face, are transformed according to the same image from glory to glory, even as by [the] Lord [the] Spirit.
  • But we all, with unveiled face, beholding as in a mirror the glory of the Lord, are being transformed into the same image from glory to glory, just as [b]by the Spirit of the Lord.
