Unity in the Body

*I*, the prisoner in [the] Lord, exhort you therefore to walk worthy of the calling wherewith ye have been called,

1

Тож я, як в’язень, який належить Господу, благаю вас жити так, як то личить людям Божим, та бути гідними поклику Божого.

2

with all lowliness and meekness, with long-suffering, bearing with one another in love;

Будьте завжди покірливими й лагідними, а також терплячими й приймайте один одного з любов’ю.

using diligence to keep the unity of the Spirit in the uniting bond of peace.

Намагайтеся зберегти єдність даровану Духом. Ревно бережіть її.

4

[There is] one body and one Spirit, as ye have been also called in one hope of your calling;

4

Є лиш одне Тіло і один Дух, і ви були покликані Богом, щоб розділити одну надію.

5

one Lord, one faith, one baptism;

5

Є лише один Господь, одна віра, одне хрещення.

6

one God and Father of all, who is over all, and through all, and in us all.

Є лише один Бог і Отець всіх. Він володар усього, виявлений в усьому, і Він усюди.

But to each one of us has been given grace according to the measure of the gift of the Christ.

7

Але кожному з нас була дарована особлива милість, мірою щедрості Христової.

8

Wherefore he says, Having ascended up on high, he has led captivity captive, and has given gifts to men.

Ось чому сказано у Святому Писанні:
«І коли вознісся Він, то взяв полонених із Собою і роздав дари людям».

But that he ascended, what is it but that he also descended into the lower parts of the earth?

Що ж означають слова: «Він вознісся» — як не те, що Він сперше спустився на землю?

10

He that descended is the same who has also ascended up above all the heavens, that he might fill all things;

Таким чином, це саме Христос зійшов, а потім вознісся на вище з Небес, щоб наповнити Собою цілком все.

and *he* has given some apostles, and some prophets, and some evangelists, and some shepherds and teachers,

Він Сам дарував одним бути апостолами, другим — пророками, третім — проповідниками Доброї Звістки, а четвертим — пастирями й учителями.

for the perfecting of the saints; with a view to [the] work of [the] ministry, with a view to the edifying of the body of Christ;

12-13

І зробив Він так, щоб підготувати людей Божих до служіння й підсилення Тіла Христова, і щоб ми всі прийшли до єднання у вірі та в пізнанні Сина Божого, до зрілості, і досягли висот досконалості Христової.

13

until we all arrive at the unity of the faith and of the knowledge of the Son of God, at [the] full-grown man, at [the] measure of the stature of the fulness of the Christ;

14

in order that we may be no longer babes, tossed and carried about by every wind of *that* teaching [which is] in the sleight of men, in unprincipled cunning with a view to systematized error;

Тоді ми вже більш не будемо як немовлята або ті, хто постійно змінює свої думки, неначе то хвилі кидають човен з боку в бік. Вітер [9] усякого нового вчення не захопить нас тоді, і ми не будемо втягнені в гріх обманами хитрунів.

15

but, holding the truth in love, we may grow up to him in all things, who is the head, the Christ:

Тож промовлятимемо істину з любов’ю і зростатимемо в усьому, щоб бути схожими на Христа. Бо Ісус — голова,

16

from whom the whole body, fitted together, and connected by every joint of supply, according to [the] working in [its] measure of each one part, works for itself the increase of the body to its self-building up in love.

та усе тіло залежить від Нього. Його владою усі частини тіла з’єднані докупи, і все воно тримається разом завдяки Христу. І коли кожна окрема частина виконує те, що мусить, все тіло росте й міцніє завдяки любові.

Living as Children of Light

This I say therefore, and testify in [the] Lord, that ye should no longer walk as [the rest of] the nations walk in [the] vanity of their mind,

Тому кажу я це й застерігаю в ім’я Господнє, щоб ви більше не жили так, як погани живуть зі своїми нікчемними думками.

18

being darkened in understanding, estranged from the life of God by reason of the ignorance which is in them, by reason of the hardness of their hearts,

18

Розум їхній затьмарений, вони відірвані від життя, що йде від Бога. Вони нічого не розуміють, бо відмовляються слухати голосу істини.

19

who having cast off all feeling, have given themselves up to lasciviousness, to work all uncleanness with greedy unsatisfied lust.

Вони втратили почуття сорому й віддалися злу і розпусті.

20

But *ye* have not thus learnt the Christ,

20

Але це життя, зовсім не те, про яке ви дізналися пізнавши Христа.

21

if ye have heard him and been instructed in him according as [the] truth is in Jesus;

21

Та я не маю сумніву, що ви чули про Нього і, як Його послідовники, навчені істини, яка в Ньому.

22

[namely] your having put off according to the former conversation the old man which corrupts itself according to the deceitful lusts;

22

Щодо вашого минулого життя, то вас вчили позбавлятися вашої старої суті, яка занепадає від облудних бажань.

23

and being renewed in the spirit of your mind;

23-24

Ви повинні відновитися в ваших серцях і розумі, та «зодягнутися в нового чоловіка», який був створений у подобі Божій і відрізняється праведністю й святістю, що йдуть від істини.

24

and [your] having put on the new man, which according to God is created in truthful righteousness and holiness.

25

Wherefore, having put off falsehood, speak truth every one with his neighbour, because we are members one of another.

25

Отже, зречіться брехні! «Кожен має бути щирим із ближніми своїми», бо всі ми — частини одного тіла.

26

Be angry, and do not sin; let not the sun set upon your wrath,

26

«Не грішіть, гніваючись» та позбудьтеся гніву перш, ніж сонце зайде.

27

neither give room for the devil.

27

Не потурайте дияволу.

28

Let the stealer steal no more, but rather let him toil, working what is honest with [his] hands, that he may have to distribute to him that has need.

28

Хто крав, нехай більше не краде. Краще працювати й зробити щось корисне, щоб поділитися тим з нужденними.

29

Let no corrupt word go out of your mouth, but if [there be] any good one for needful edification, that it may give grace to those that hear [it].

29

Нехай жодне огидне слово не сходить з уст ваших, а кажіть лише те, що допомагає людям духовно зростати згідно з їх потребою, щоб ви допомогли тим, хто чує вас.

30

And do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God, with which ye have been sealed for [the] day of redemption.

30

Не засмучуйте Божого Духа Святого, бо Він — доказ того, що ви належите Богу і що Він захистить вас до тих пір, коли настане час вашого звільнення.

31

Let all bitterness, and heat of passion, and wrath, and clamour, and injurious language, be removed from you, with all malice;

31

Нехай усі прикрощі, лють, гнів, лихослів’я і наклепи полишать вас — разом з усіляким злом.

32

and be to one another kind, compassionate, forgiving one another, so as God also in Christ has forgiven you.

32

Будьте добрими й співчутливими одне до одного. Прощайте одне одному, як Бог простив вам в Христі.
