The Day of the Lord

But concerning the times and the seasons, brethren, ye have no need that ye should be written to,

1

А про часи́ та про по́ри, брати, не потрібно писати до вас,

2

for ye know perfectly well yourselves, that the day of [the] Lord so comes as a thief by night.

2

бо самі ви докладно те знаєте, що при́йде день Господній так, як злодій вночі.

3

When they may say, Peace and safety, then sudden destruction comes upon them, as travail upon her that is with child; and they shall in no wise escape.

Бо коли говоритимуть: „Мир і безпечність“, тоді несподівано при́йде заги́біль на них, як му́ка тієї, що носить в утро́бі, — і вони не втечуть!

4

But *ye*, brethren, are not in darkness, that the day should overtake you as a thief:

4

А ви, браття, не в те́мряві, щоб той день захопи́в вас, як злодій.

5

for all *ye* are sons of light and sons of day; we are not of night nor of darkness.

5

Бо ви всі сини світла й сини дня. Не належимо ми ночі, ні те́мряві.

6

So then do not let us sleep as the rest do, but let us watch and be sober;

6

Тож не бу́демо спати, як інші, а пильнуймо та будьмо твере́зі!

7

for they that sleep sleep by night, and they that drink drink by night;

7

Ті бо, що сплять — сплять уночі, а ті, що напиваються — вночі напиваються.

8

but *we* being of [the] day, let us be sober, putting on [the] breastplate of faith and love, and as helmet [the] hope of salvation;

8

А ми, що належимо дневі, будьмо тверезі, зодягнувшися в броню́ віри й любови, та в шоло́м надії спасі́ння,

9

because God has not set us for wrath, but for obtaining salvation through our Lord Jesus Christ,

9

бо Бог нас не призна́чив на гнів, але щоб спасі́ння оде́ржали Господом нашим Ісусом Христом,

10

who has died for us, that whether we may be watching or sleep, we may live together with him.

10

що помер був за нас, щоб, чи пильнуємо ми чи спимо́, укупі з Ним ми жили́.

11

Wherefore encourage one another, and build up each one the other, even as also ye do.

11

Утішайте тому́ один о́дного, і збудо́вуйте один о́дного, — як і чините ви!

12

Christian Living

But we beg you, brethren, to know those who labour among you, and take the lead among you in [the] Lord, and admonish you,

12

Благаємо ж, бра́ття, ми вас, — шануйте тих, що працюють між вами, і в вас старшину́ють у Господі, і навчають вас вони,

13

and to regard them exceedingly in love on account of their work. Be in peace among yourselves.

13

і в великій любові їх майте за їхню працю. Між собою заховуйте мир!

14

But we exhort you, brethren, admonish the disorderly, comfort the faint-hearted, sustain the weak, be patient towards all.

Благаємо ж, бра́ття, ми вас: напоумля́йте непорядних, потішайте малодушних, підтримуйте слаби́х, усім довготерпіть!

15

See that no one render to any evil for evil, but pursue always what is good towards one another and towards all;

15

Глядіть, щоб ніхто ніко́му не віддавав злом за зло, але за́вжди дбайте про добро один для о́дного й для всіх!

rejoice always;

За́вжди радійте!

pray unceasingly;

Безперестанку моліться!

in everything give thanks, for this is [the] will of God in Christ Jesus towards you;

Подяку складайте за все, бо така Божа воля про вас у Христі Ісусі.

19

quench not the Spirit;

19

Духа не вгаша́йте!

20

do not lightly esteem prophecies;

20

Не горду́йте пророцтвами!

21

but prove all things, hold fast the right;

21

Усе досліджуючи, тримайтеся доброго!

22

hold aloof from every form of wickedness.

22

Стережіться лихого в усякому ви́гляді!

23

Final Blessings

Now the God of peace himself sanctify you wholly: and your whole spirit, and soul, and body be preserved blameless at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.

23

А Сам Бог миру нехай освя́тить вас цілко́м доскона́ло, а непору́шений дух ваш, і душа, і тіло нехай непорочно збере́жені бу́дуть на при́хід Господа нашого Ісуса Христа!

24

He [is] faithful who calls you, who will also perform [it].

24

Вірний Той, Хто вас кличе, — Він і вчинить оте!

25

Brethren, pray for us.

25

Бра́ття, моліться за нас!

26

Greet all the brethren with a holy kiss.

26

Привітайте всю бра́ттю святим поцілунком!
