Five Kings War against Gibeon

And it came to pass when Adoni-zedek king of Jerusalem heard that Joshua had taken Ai and had utterly destroyed it, that he had done to Ai and its king as he had done to Jericho and its king, and that the inhabitants of Gibeon had made peace with Israel, and were among them,

that they feared greatly; for Gibeon was a great city, as one of the royal cities, and it was greater than Ai, and all its men were mighty.

And Adoni-zedek king of Jerusalem sent to Hoham king of Hebron, and to Piream king of Jarmuth, and to Japhia king of Lachish, and to Debir king of Eglon, saying,

Тож Адонівезек, цар Єрусалима, послав до Елама, царя Хеврону, до Фідона — царя Єрімута, до Єфти — царя Лахіса, і до Давіра — царя Одолама, закликаючи:

Come up to me, and help me, that we may smite Gibeon; for it has made peace with Joshua and with the children of Israel.

And the five kings of the Amorites, the king of Jerusalem, the king of Hebron, the king of Jarmuth, the king of Lachish, [and] the king of Eglon, gathered themselves together, and went up, they and all their armies, and they encamped before Gibeon, and made war against it.

І п’ятеро євусейських царів: цар Єрусалима, цар Хеврона, цар Єрімута, цар Лахіса і цар Одолама, вони і весь їхній народ, пішли, обійшли Ґаваон і оточили його.

And the men of Gibeon sent to Joshua, to the camp at Gilgal, saying, Withdraw not thy hand from thy servants: come up to us quickly, and save us and help us; for all the kings of the Amorites that dwell in the hill-country are gathered against us.

А ті, які жили в Ґаваоні, послали до Ісуса, до ізраїльського табору, у Ґалґал, кажучи: Не відпускай руки твоєї від твоїх рабів. Прийди до нас швидко, визволи нас і допоможи нам, бо проти нас зібралися всі царі аморейців, які живуть у горах!

So Joshua went up from Gilgal, he and all the people of war with him, even all the valiant men.

Тож Ісус вирушив з Ґалґала — сам і весь боєздатний народ з ним, кожний могутній силою.

And Jehovah said to Joshua, Fear them not; for into thy hand have I given them: not a man of them shall stand before thee.

8

І в той час Господь промовив до Ісуса: Не бійся їх, бо Я передав їх у твої руки, не залишиться з них ніхто перед вами!

9

And Joshua came upon them suddenly; he went up from Gilgal all night.

9

Тож Ісус зненацька напав на них, — цілу ніч він ішов з Ґалґала.

10

And Jehovah discomfited them before Israel, and smote them [with] a great slaughter at Gibeon; and he chased them on the way of the ascent of Beth-horon, and smote them up to Azekah and Makkedah.

А Господь нагнав на них страх від обличчя ізраїльських синів, і Господь розгромив їх великим знищенням у Ґаваоні. І вони гналися за ними дорогою, що йде до Ороніна, і громили їх аж до Азику і аж до Макиди.

11

And it came to pass, as they fled from before Israel, -- they were at the descent of Beth-horon, -- that Jehovah cast down great stones from heaven upon them up to Azekah, and they died. They were more who died with the hailstones than they whom the children of Israel had slain with the sword.

The Sun Stands Still

Then spoke Joshua to Jehovah in the day when Jehovah gave up the Amorites before the children of Israel, and he said in the sight of Israel, Sun, stand still upon Gibeon; And thou, moon, in the valley of Ajalon!

Тоді Ісус звернувся до Господа (в той день, коли передав Бог Аморея в руки Ізраїлеві, коли розбив їх у Ґаваоні, і були знищені з-перед обличчя ізраїльських синів) і сказав Ісус: Нехай стане сонце напроти Ґаваону і місяць напроти долини Елону!

And the sun stood still, and the moon remained where it was, until the nation had avenged themselves upon their enemies. Is not this written in the book of Jasher? And the sun remained standing in the midst of heaven, and hasted not to go down about a full day.

13

І сонце стало, і місяць залишався стояти, доки Бог не помстився своїм ворогам. Сонце стало посеред неба, не пішло вперед на захід на закінчення одного дня.

14

And there was no day like that before it or after it, that Jehovah hearkened to the voice of a man; for Jehovah fought for Israel.

14

І не було такого дня ні раніше, ні пізніше, щоби Бог вислухав людину, бо Господь воював за Ізраїль.

15

And Joshua returned, and all Israel with him, to the camp, to Gilgal.

16

Victory at Makkedah

And these five kings fled, and hid themselves in the cave at Makkedah.

16

А ці п’ять царів утекли і сховалися в печері, що в Макиді.

17

And it was told Joshua, saying, The five kings have been found, hid in the cave at Makkedah.

17

Та Ісусові сповістили, кажучи: Знайдено п’ять царів, які сховалися в печері, що в Макиді.

18

And Joshua said, Roll great stones before the mouth of the cave, and set men before it to keep them.

18

Тож Ісус сказав: Заваліть камінням отвір печери й поставте мужів стерегти їх!

19

And ye, stay not, pursue after your enemies, and smite the hindmost of them; suffer them not to enter into their cities; for Jehovah your God has given them into your hand.

19

Ви ж не переставайте переслідувати ваших ворогів, захопіть їхні тили і не дайте їм увійти до своїх міст, бо Господь, наш Бог, передав їх у наші руки!

20

And it came to pass when Joshua and the children of Israel had ended smiting them with a very great slaughter, until they were consumed, that the remnant which remained of them entered into fortified cities;

20

І сталося, коли Ісус і кожний ізраїльський син зупинився, знищуючи їх аж до кінця дуже великим знищенням, то лише деякі вбереглися, — вони врятувалися в укріплених містах.

21

and all the people returned to the camp to Joshua, at Makkedah, in peace; none moved his tongue against the children of Israel.

А весь народ повернувся до Ісуса в Макиду здоровим, і ніхто з ізраїльських синів і не забурмотів своїм язиком.

And Joshua said, Open the mouth of the cave, and bring forth to me those five kings out of the cave.

22

Тоді Ісус сказав: Відкрийте печеру і виведіть цих п’ятьох царів з печери!

And they did so, and brought forth to him those five kings out of the cave, the king of Jerusalem, the king of Hebron, the king of Jarmuth, the king of Lachish, the king of Eglon.

23

І п’ятьох царів: царя єрусалимського, царя хевронського, царя єрімутського, царя лахіського і царя одоламського вивели з печери.

24

And it came to pass when they had brought forth those kings to Joshua, that Joshua called to all the men of Israel, and said to the captains of the men of war who went with him, Come forward, put your feet on the necks of these kings. And they came forward and put their feet on their necks.

А коли привели їх до Ісуса, то Ісус скликав увесь Ізраїль і військових начальників, які ходили з ним, кажучи їм: Вийдіть і поставте ваші ноги на їхні шиї! І, підійшовши, вони поставили свої ноги на їхні шиї.

25

And Joshua said to them, Fear not, neither be dismayed; be strong and courageous, for thus will Jehovah do to all your enemies against whom ye fight.

Тоді Ісус промовив до них: Не бійтеся їх і не жахайтеся! Будьте мужніми і сильними, бо так учинить Господь з усіма вашими ворогами, проти яких ви воюватимете!

26

And afterwards Joshua smote them, and put them to death, and hanged them on five trees; and they were hanging upon the trees until the evening.

26

І вбив їх Ісус, і повісив їх на п’ятьох деревах. І були повішені на деревах до вечора.

27

And it came to pass at the time of the going down of the sun, that Joshua commanded, and they took them down off the trees, and cast them into the cave where they had been hid, and laid great stones before the cave's mouth, [which remain] to this very day.

27

І сталося, що при заході сонця Ісус наказав, і їх зняли з дерев, і кинули їх у печеру, до якої вони втекли, і заклали печеру камінням, і так є аж до сьогоднішнього дня.

28

And Joshua took Makkedah on that day, and smote it with the edge of the sword, and the king thereof, him and all the souls that were therein he utterly destroyed; he let none remain; and he did to the king of Makkedah as he had done to the king of Jericho.

У той день вони взяли Макиду і розгромили її вістрям мечів, і вигубили все, що в ній дихає, і не залишилося в ній жодного, хто врятувався б і втік. А із царем Макиди зробили так, як учинили із царем Єрихону.

29

Joshua Conquers Southern Palestine

And Joshua passed, and all Israel with him, from Makkedah to Libnah, and fought against Libnah.

29

Тоді Ісус, а з ним увесь Ізраїль пішли з Макиди до Левни, і облягли Левну.

30

And Jehovah gave it also and the king thereof into the hand of Israel; and he smote it with the edge of the sword, and all the souls that were therein; he let none remain in it: and he did to the king thereof as he had done to the king of Jericho.

30

І Господь передав її в руки Ізраїлю, і захопили її та її царя, і розгромили її вістрям меча, і все, що в ній дихає, — в ній не залишилося жодного, хто врятувався б і втік. І зробили з його царем так, як учинили із царем Єрихона.

31

And Joshua passed, and all Israel with him, from Libnah to Lachish, and encamped against it, and fought against it.

31

І пішов Ісус, і з ним весь Ізраїль з Левни до Лахіса, обійшов його і взяв його в облогу.

32

And Jehovah gave Lachish into the hand of Israel; and they took it on the second day, and smote it with the edge of the sword, and all the souls that were therein, according to all that he had done to Libnah.

32

І Господь передав Лахіс у руки Ізраїля, і на другий день він взяв його, і вибили його вістрям меча і розгромили його, як зробили і з Левною.

33

Then Horam king of Gezer came up to help Lachish; and Joshua smote him and his people, until he had left him none remaining.

33

Тоді Елам, цар Ґазеру, прийшов на допомогу Лахісові, та Ісус вістрям меча побив його і його народ, аж не залишилося з них того, хто врятувався б і втік.

34

And Joshua, and all Israel with him, passed from Lachish to Eglon; and they encamped against it, and fought against it.

І пішов Ісус, а з ним весь Ізраїль з Лахіса до Одолама, оточив його і взяв його в облогу.

35

And they took it on that day, and smote it with the edge of the sword; and all the souls that were therein he utterly destroyed on that day, according to all that he had done to Lachish.

35

І передав його Господь в руки Ізраїлю, взяв його в той день і вибив його вістрям меча, і вигубили все, що в ньому дихає, вчинили так, як з Лахісом.

36

And Joshua went up, and all Israel with him, from Eglon to Hebron; and they fought against it.

36

Далі пішов Ісус, а з ним весь Ізраїль до Хеврона, і оточив його.

37

And they took it, and smote it with the edge of the sword, and the king thereof, and all the cities thereof, and all the souls that were therein: he let none remain, according to all that he had done to Eglon; and he utterly destroyed it, and all the souls that were therein.

37

Він розгромив його вістрям меча, і все, що було в ньому, що дихає, і не було того, хто врятувався б, — як учинили з Одоламом, так знищили і його, і те, що в ньому було.

38

And Joshua returned, and all Israel with him, to Debir; and fought against it.

38

І повернувся Ісус і весь Ізраїль до Давіра, і, оточивши його,

39

And he took it, and the king thereof, and all the cities thereof, and they smote them with the edge of the sword, and utterly destroyed all the souls that were therein; he let none remain: as he had done to Hebron, and as he had done to Libnah, and to the king thereof, so he did to Debir and to the king thereof.

39

взяли його, його царя та його поселення, розгромили його вістрям меча і вигубили його й усе, що в ньому дихає, і не залишили в ньому нікого, хто врятувався б, — як учинили з Хевроном і з його царем, так учинили з Давіром і його царем.

40

And Joshua smote the whole country, the mountain, and the south, and the lowland, and the hill-slopes, and all their kings: he let none remain, but he utterly destroyed all that breathed, as Jehovah the God of Israel had commanded.

40

І розгромив Ісус усю гірську землю, Наґев, рівнину, Асидот і їхніх царів, не залишили з них того, хто врятувався б, і вигубив усе, що дихає життям, — як і заповів Господь, Бог Ізраїля.

41

And Joshua smote them from Kadesh-barnea even to Gazah, and all the country of Goshen, even to Gibeon;

41

Від Кадис-Варни до Ґази, весь Ґосом аж до Ґаваона,

42

and all these kings and their land did Joshua take at one time; for Jehovah the God of Israel fought for Israel.

42

усіх їхніх царів і їхню землю розгромив Ісус за одним разом, бо Господь, Ізраїлів Бог, воював за Ізраїля.
